There are many flaws here, and it's just not what I would expect from the Baldur's Gate people. I have decided that this game does not do it for me. I was really looking forward to it, but the only emotion the game seems to be eliciting is anger... and a fair bit of disappointment. If I don't see a point in continuing, then that's not my fault is it? I love RPGs, but this is not what I would expect from Bioware. Games are supposed to improve with time, become more complex and intricate. I'm playing on the most difficult setting, just looking for some kind of challenge, and all it does is make me have to continually restart the battles hoping for a better roll of the dice. There's more to an RPG than restarting battles. I mean, the dialogue often leads you to the same spot no matter what you say. This is an action game, and it doesn't draw me in like a quality RPG. I was hoping for a new RPG addiction, but sadly I did not find it in Dragon Age: Origins. The only reason I'd finish at this point is just for the sake of finishing. I appreciate the work that must have gone into the theatrics and design, but I'm sure there were developers who felt it wasn't finished. I'm sure a few knew they were releasing less than a whole game. I'm done for now anyway, and I the only reason I'd pick up again is out of bordom. That's two failed picks in a row for me now (The Witcher). I think I might go back to NWN2.
Not to be negative, but I quit. Back to NWN.

Sounds like you'd set yourself up for a fall and inevitable disappointment, try to avoid playing any new game with any pre-conceptions.

Also there's way too many "This game sucks/I quit/I want my money back/This isn't the game I wanted" threads. Maybe one should be stickied and everyone can just post in there since it's the same thing.

If the hard difficulty is too hard for you, why not lowering it? I don't get it? You as for a challenge, but when it's here, you say it's too challenging? They even eased the normal/easy level, and I am having no trouble playing on hard mode so far. And so far, I have seen different ending depending on the solution you pick, and I'm sure, I haven't seen half of the consequences of my choices yet.
Would you please define what is a challenge for you? I'm intrigued.

Really? Did you talk to many people? Try and coerce someone without passing the skill check and say that everything ends up the same way. Get some of your party members mad at you and they leave/attack. Sure the outcome of battles may not have been what anyone wanted, and an NPC died, but that's what happens in the game world. If you want to save/load until you get the "perfect" outcome you aren't really interested in a playing and experiencing a role-playing game. Take the punches, roll with what you can, and try to salvage what is left behind. That is what happens in wartime, and part of what makes this game a great RPG. Try playing the game the whole way through taking just the good path. Not so easy when there are often no "right" path but just lesser shades of gray.

Quitting DA:O I could maybe understand. But for NWN? Really? That's your fallback?

I find that I am slowly getting better at the game, and so fights that would have been hard before are much easier now. Using line-of-sight to neutralize ranged attacks is a HUGE help.
One issue people may be having is that this game is not strictly linear, and so if you end up in a tougher place before you are ready, then indeed it could be very tough. Or if you miss side-quests or rooms that may have a key item, you can find yourself at a big disadvantage. This is no different really than BG or NWN. For example, first time I did Redcliffe I missed a room with lots of gear much, much better than what I had. Fortunately I didn't like my original decision with that storyline, went back to replay it, and noticed a little something that I didn't notice before and the effect on my gameplay has been immense.
It's a bit of a frustrating element to the Bioware games since BG1, and the difference it can make between ease and struggling is immense. But since there are easily changeable difficulty settings, use those to make the challenges appropriate for you.

I still have NWN on my hard drive. And NWN2. And The Witcher. And Morrowind. And Oblivion. And Sacred. And Diablo II. And Dungeon Siege. And Ularn. And freakin' Telengard. All for different gaming moods. If DAO doesn't hit the right spots, don't play it.

That is one of the oddest post I have ever read. I wanted some sort of challenge so I put it on the most difficult setting but I keep dying...

Why are you playing on the hardest difficulty if you don't like dying? When you say "I'm playing on the most difficult setting, just looking for some kind of challenge, and all it does is make me have to continually restart the battles hoping for a better roll of the dice" I want you to realize how ridiculous that sounds. You're implying that you SHOULD be able to play on the highest setting, because you're so good, except that the game is wrong somehow (the dice, here) and killing you instead. Let's be frank: If you were good enough, you wouldn't be dying. A lot of people play on the hardest setting without dying constantly, or at least having fun dying. If you're not one of them, lower the difficulty and have more fun. Jesus.

There is a lot more to combat then simply restarting and hoping for a better role of the dice, friend. If you are playing on nightmare, then perhaps you need to be lucky on that mode even using the right tactics. I assure you that on Hard at least changing tactics is the difference between life and death, not simply reloading and hoping for more luck.

Yes...exactly what I was thinking. I don't understand this impulse to come on to these forums and complain about not liking the game. Is it because misery loves company? Or is because people cannot stand the idea of others having fun while they are not, so they will post this stuff on the forums in hopes of dragging everyone else down?
sigh

Lemme get this straight. You are playing on the hardest difficulty and you are complaining about dying?
Grow up bub.
The highest difficulty in any game is meant to kick your butt. DA:O is the first in a while to get that right. If you do not have a solid grasp on tactics and build maximizing you do not need to play nightmare. I'm sure your gonna say " I do have solid tactics" or " I do know how to create proper characters." If that were so you wouldn't be dying.
Just drop it down a notch or 2 till you get a handle on the mechanics of the game. Once that happens nightmare will be the challenge you are looking for. Until then you will just frustrate yourself. I know you have the right to play on any difficulty you choose. I also know you can play anyway you want. If you refuse to do that then take responsibilty for your actions. Realize your a **** for stubbornly sticking to only nightmare when you can lower the difficulty.
I hope you can enjoy the game as there is a lot of great game here. The story is pretty decent but the companion dialogue is top notch. I have Alistair and Shale in my party and those 2 have made me cry from laughing so hard. If this games combat isn't quite right for you please play on normal or easy just to enjoy the other aspects of the game. I'm sorry if this post sounds harsh. I don't intend it to be solely harsh words.
I truly hope you can find a way to enjoy this game.

I'm getting frusted too, still not ready to quit. I need help learning to use my tactics and win battles, but my problem is I can't seem to find anything good that I can use to improve. Right now The battles are too quick and my AI guys get mauked and don't offer any assistance to me. I end up winning battles by myself. Could anyone offer advice?

Sitting in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, completely breaks the immersion. I demand that BioWare provides me with a complete virtual gaming experience.
