The game says that the Geth Pulse Rifle is "comparable" to the Vindicator. I am wondering which is the overall best to use.

Damn, this thread reminds me of how I missed out on the Geth Pulse Rifle...AGAIN!

Will have to pick it up on my third playthrough.

Geth Pulse Rifle is great against shields but overall Vindicator is a lot better.

And Revenant is the best imho :)

There's a Geth Pulse Rifle in ME2, too? Woohoo!

Not sure, a fully upgrade Avenger Assualt Rifle is not to bad.

The problem I have with the revenant rifle is that awful kickback it does, seems a lot more noticable on that weapon then either the Avenger or Vindicator rifle.

The Vindicator rifle stinks, low ammo capcitiy and 5 bursts shot at a time which can get anoying. (Although in the description it says it can be upgraded to full-auto, instead of the short bursts it does, but not quite sure how to do that.)

I don't know much about the Geth Rifle only because I think that's only available at higher difficulty (which I'll probably never do, cause I know how bad your AI teammates scale with you, and I feel Normal is just right)

Yeah you have to do the recruit Tali mission on Hardcore or insanity and you will find it near the end of the mission.

I thought just about everyone knew about the pulse rifle.

Depends on your priorities. The pulse rifle behaves closer to a submachine gun - fantastic against Shields, high consistent fire rate, lots of ammo. The Vindicator is a little closer to a Sniper Rifle - great for mid to long range combat, but kind of bad up close, particularly because you can run out of ammo with it.

Today I read that you can only obtain it on the two highest difficulty settings. I think it was the Mass Effect wikia.

The pulse rifle is fantastic - you can empty it and only need to pick up a couple of thermal clips to be at full ammo again. Damagewise it's comparable to a vindicator with a bonus against shields, and it has virtually no kickback. It also looks and sounds awesome.

Collector > All

Geth rifle is pretty good, Vindicator sucks, Revenant fun/tons of ammo but only useful on lower difficulty

The Vindicator has the best damage, accuracy, and penetration values out of all of the assault rifle class. The Geth Pulse Rifle is classified as "Very Light" penetration, so it will work well against shields, but not much else.

The Vindicator is the best assault rifle for fighting at medium to long range.

The Revenant is the best assault rifle for fighting at close range.

I vastly prefer the Vindicator. It's accurate enough to handle stuff at any range and it's bursts do hefty damage without scattering.

I generally prefer auto weapons, but I couldn't justify carrying an Avenger when I already carry a Tempest and a Particle Beam with me. Plus I needed some longer range gear that I could still use at shorter ranges.

Ok, maybe it doesn't suck, just it has so little ammo I can't use it. Collector is very accurate and it has way more ammo, plus full auto fire.

I use it to beat Veteran, but it's too inaccurate for anything higher IMO. I'm sure it would work fine in many areas, but in more long distance fights it just can't cut it.

the Revenant is inaccurate at long range, but it isn't as terrible with accuracy upgrades. It's also great for enemies trying to swarm you from midrange. Anything beyond that range is best dealt with by the semiaoutomatic sniper rifle, which I fire in bursts of 2-3 shots at basic enemies, usually headshots. The geth rifle seems a bit too specialized for me to use it throughout an entire mission, but that's just me.  The Revenant also seemed slightly more accurate when I fired it in short bursts at more distant targets.  If they get closer, I just spray them with explosive inferno rounds.

RadiantViper:

That's because it depends on what you want in a gun. If you already have a submachine gun for automatic work up close, you're less concerned with ammo capacity and close range ability. If you don't have a submachine gun and can't stand using a shotgun, you want full auto fire.

EDIT:  As a Soldier, I don't use my Assault Rifles for long range work anyway.  I use my Viper for that - it's better than a Vindicator for that kind of thing.  It's got Head Shot damage bonuses.  As soon as it's too close for a Viper, I pull out the Revenant and it's just right.  With a Praetorian, you can unload your entire clip in continuous fire at medium range and not miss a single shot.  Scions, too.

Still no reason for me to chose a gun with less ammo over a comparable gun with more ammo. Vindicator doesn't do anything for me that the Collector doesn't.

That's personal preference, and one I can understand.  I prefer the Widow for my sniper rifle, as it can one-shot standard enemies on Insanity and deals with bosses faster than anything else save the Cain.  The Vindicator's a personal preference choice on my part as well; it feels like a precision weapon, and I prefer that to Ramboing it up with a Revenant.

Well, it hits harder and deeper, but the Collector Rifle does have more ammo, yes.
