Also, the bonus powers are unlocked any time you get someone loyal, and you can use the Prototype research "Advanced Training" to train one at any time.

Yes i realize that. But with an extra bonus power, its pointless, they need to give out more Squad points if they want it to make any impact cuz as of right now, nobody will be able to put any points into it at all cuz there are simply not enough squad points in the game. There are only enough squad points to go up to level 30 and even then you need to be stingy with them and pick and choose cuz you will only be able to max out 4.
A) You can max out 5 powers if you want and still have 1 left over point. That's 5 out of 7 with 1 extra.
C) Most classes have abilities that really only need 1 point. (Pull, Throw on higher difficulties)
You have plenty of points. Your complaint is completely unwarranted.

A. More Squad points to use or
B. An increase in the level cap so you definitely will get more points to spend in your talents/powers.
as it is now, you can only max out 4 powers, with a few powers at like level 1 or 2. whats the point in giving you a bonus power? you cant do anything with it.

What I would really like is if we could respec our squadmates. I'm pretty sure that many of us maxed out, or came pretty close to maxing out, their first two abilities, only to be left with a relative few points to put into the loyalty abilities.

I remember in Mass Effect 1 when leveling up was more rewarding. You're supposed to increment your skills, not "save up" to get one good thing. Thats stupid. I agree with opening post. I want Mass Effect 2 with a bit more Mass Effect 1 if ya know what I mean.
I hated that system "Oh boy, level 31, I guess I'll gain 5% more overload damage and 0.5s Barrier Duration, woohoo" It doesn't matter much at all, but bigger intervals feel better to me.

my main point is that they need to give you more squad points to take advantage of your new bonus power. plus it would be cool if bioware gave you the option after beating the game to be able to max out all your stats. who can argue with that? if would be badass to have all you skills maxed.
So this thread is really about you wanting all the skills maxed.
That is obsurd.
The point of these games is to have the player "choose" how to create their character and the abilities they have.
Make you play over with different skill builds.
Not a Cookiw cutter build that works for all classes by maxing out skills.
Lets try this. If you did not spend a single squad point and played on crap abilities and then had all these points at the end. Couldn't you then max out that Bonus skill by way of choosing what direction your build would be?
So what would be the difference of creating that build from the start and picking only the skills you really needed to play so you can max that bonus skill?

What he said. You don't NEED to max everything. I'd rather have a skill that I can pick and not be able to max all my skills, than being able to max all my base skills and not have a bonus choice.
Lets put this another way. Have you ever played a RPG where you can max every skill? Most RPGs let you max certain skills such as melee, ranged, or magic. But you can never have all of them maxed out. You can't even max every skill in ME1, so why should you be able to do it in ME2.
Edit: On my first play through as an Adept, I put points into Pull, Warp, and Singularity. Well then I came across Jack's Bonus Warp Ammo skill. I didn't have enough points to max out Warp Ammo, however I had wasted points in Pull which I didn't really need. So I respeced and put points from Pull into Warp Ammo. I didn't hardly ever use Pull anyway, so I was happy to put the points in Warp Ammo. You can't use all of your skills all of the time anyways, and having a limited number of points actually makes you streamline your character to be better.
