Hey, was wondering if anyone had any words of advice for me.  For apparently no reason, my character portraits for Dragon Age (and in some cases the full pictures of my characters as well) have been acting zany over the past few days.  They'll just randomly disappear or swap portraits with another one of my characters when I haven't even logged into Dragon Age and updated them at all.  Usually when this happens, I log into the game, do a hard save, and watch the upload bars work their magic under my profile.  However, no matter what I do (even before making a hard save), my profile now just has a static completion bar at 100% that never does a blasted thing.  Did my profile get corrupted somehow or is this a server-side issue?  Thanks, because it's really getting on my nerves having a blank avatar.

The only oddity I've seen is that any time I have more of a biography written than just 5 1/4 lines' worth, it gets chopped off.

Same happened to me and all my chars but one. All my characters' pictures are gone but one. However the equipped items on all chars still show! That's so weird. I haven't been playing in a while and I'm just wondering WTF is this site bug and how long will BioWare/EA web team take to fix it!??



And my profile now reads 104033's Profile instead of RageGT's profile!

Well, now we know that this is affecting at least two profiles, so it's not just me and must be an issue server-side. Can we get an official statement please?

This has happend to quite a few people over the last few weeks. It appears to be a somewhat random deletion on the server side. I just completely cleared out my character storage (had a couple of old phantom characters that were hanging around) and uploaded everything again to see if that helps.

You can reload the portraits from within the game again, its just whether they'll stay that is the question.

Ok, it has to be something wrong with my profile server-side.  Like RageGT said, my profile also shows "15699's Profile" over where my portrait should be on the left of the social site page.  Also, I've been playing a bit tonight, and it's not updating anything at all, even though I've been playing on a character that was unaffected (and leveled her up) and unlocked a few achievements (which usually update within 10 minutes), so I doubt clearing out my characters server-side will help.  What is going on here?  I'm starting to get irritated.

Its like that because its set to use a picture that doesn't exist, so its showing a label based on your user number instead. Normally there's no text there, just a picture.

I'm having the same issues as Matthias Umbra and RageGT.  My profile returned to normal for a few hours but is well and truly borked again now.

[Edit]:  And has apparently decided to fix itself again.  Guess I shouldn't really complain but I wish I at least knew what was causing it.

Well, I'd like to have some sort of official reply please, something acknowledging the issue. I don't want to delete all my characters and re-upload them when the uploads for characters that haven't even been affected are frozen and won't update.

And it's messing up my messages now???!!!
I got 10 updates for the same subscribed blog entry from a friend's profile and some empty messages too... And it keeps showing (1) message forever because it is empty and technically I can't read it. Of course I THINK I can delete it. (But aren't empty messages supposed to be NOT sent?)

LOL... laughing since there's nothing I can do about it. I do hope some BW can answer the issue and fix the bloody ugly site bug!

My profiles shows just like Matthias and my characters, 6 out of 7, display all the equipped gear and weapons in the char details page but no Avatar.

One of them is ok, 100% there and using his pic as profile photo erases the 104033's profile over the blank black box.

PS.: Could this be the RtO bug? Last thing I did before taking a break from DA was to download and install it, play around 1 hour in Denerim and quit.  (I really needed a break from DA after over 600 hours gaming with it =)

I see two different problems in this thread:

This is caused by an error in your ea.com profile. Go to EA.com, log in (using the bar at the bottom) and select a 'default Profile'. You should already have an account there as you needed to create one for your Bioware account.



2) Matthias Umbra - "Missing/incorrect profile picture" is caused by errors in your online Persona storage. If you are on a PC this is easy to fix. Go to the "how to delete unwanted characters" thread that has been stickied and follow the instructions there to delete ALL your online characters and re-upload them.

Oh and FYI:

I had BOTH of these problems in the past and that was how I fixed them.

Console users can fix problem #1 but not problem #2.  Apparently the only way to fix #2 on a console is to completely delete your characters.  Details are in the mentioned thread.

I know how to delete characters, but thanks for being condescending.  The problem is, I don't want to delete them, since for some reason, my upload progress bar freezes mid-upload with characters that haven't been affected.  I don't want to delete them all, only to not be able to upload any of my damn characters.  I'm not asking for the site techs to go dedicate 100% of their time to working on this issue, but I'd just like some acknowledgement that they're aware of this problem going on with profile storage corruption and that they'll look into it.

Well, I simply deleted all the chars from the website, loaded latest save of all 7 that I actually want tho show here, messed around with items, saved the game and I can only hope the upload works now!

(first one was a test and has the same same/class/everything as the second one who was much better build and is Kind of a Big Deal, but I can't get myself to delete it too! First char is magic! =)

As for the 104033's Profile, it disappeared when I selected the only char icon I had left but since he also had #1005 errors, I deleted it so I hope it will be uploaded right this time! (weird enough, the avatar icon remained, as you can see)

If you're going to do the delete all characters route make sure you check your Profile Diagnostics and make sure all files related to your characters are deleted. And if not you have to go through a cycle of upload, delete, upload, delete until the files are all gone. (And since uploads are so slow it can be painful.)



I had files from a couple of old characters from the Character Creator hanging round, and once I finally got rid of those, the mysterious deletions from my profile seemed to stop. Its been about 4-5 days now, and all my real characters are still there.

Kepha, yeah, I did that. There was on ghost char left with 1 file and #1001, #1002 and #1003 errors... lol ... had to wait a bit and I could delete it again. (It didn't show up again but the char's page said 1 character while displayed zero. That's the cue to know we have ghost chars available for deletion)

All 7 chars uploaded all right now and have no extra files too!

I had the same problems and that's how I fixed them.  The Dev's have known about thse problems for a while and they haven't fixed them.  If you want to fix them then follow my advice.  If you want to be a d*** then keep on doing what your doing.

Well, it took a week this time, but one of my characters got stomped on again. And that's after I made sure that all my old characters where deleted. So, that's not a full workaround for the problem. They'll still have to fix whatever problem it is on the server side.

From what I can tell the problem is Server Congestion. The server (or the Database on it) simply cannot handle the volume of requests it is receiving. That's why deletions or uploading characters work better at certain times. The traffic at those times is lower giving the server a chance to process all the requests properly.

Oh, there certainly is a congestion problem.  But that can'y explain why characters which were successfully uploaded, and which haven't been played in a while (so no new uploads), suddenly have images missing.  That sounds more like a rogue process on the server to me.

The more I think about it the more your theory sounds correct. Maybe there is some process (auto-cleanup maybe?) that is accessing picture files and "locking" them. Then when you go to view the image it can't be accessed so is not displayed on your persona page.

However one other thing I have seen very briefly (not sure if you have too) is the wrong picture file attached to a persona. This seemed to occur as a domino effect - Persona #2 would show the character pic from persona #3 and Persona #'s 3 and 4 would have no pic. This would indicate not a rogue process but issues with the database or DB queries.
