I have always played a soldier(I know...I know...) and I was looking into playing a biotic through ME1 and ME2. Thing is I have been hearing a lot of bad stuff about biotics in ME2..is it worth it?
PS I do not play on insanity (although i have and won bleh) I think it messes game balance.
Question about Biotics I have not played one but I am discouraged

Depends on how you use the Biotics. I've had success so far on my Adept Hardcore playthrough (just finished Collector ship), mainly because I learned how to use my powers in tandem. It's worth it, sure. But only if you know how to strip necessary defenses, etc. You'll want to bring squadmates with complementary powers (ex. Miranda for Warp, Jack, Samara) to speed things up, and someone else to take down your enemies' defenses on higher difficulties (Miranda, Garrus, Legion with the Widow, etc.).

Biotics are fine on normal/veteran. You will actually feel like you're controlling the battlefield. Unlike Insanity, where at most you'll be controlling 1 mob.

adept is ok, bit of a warp/reave fest sure, but singularity rocks the proverbial socks even on insanity. makes affected enemies stand up still and not shoot while its effecting them.

I've played a Vanguard on each difficulty and beaten each but then again some people are not very good at vanguard....I say it's worth it

Having a lot of fun with my adept - NG+ with reave as a bonus skill, swapped out all my points in warp for reave, then refocused on singularity at the expense of pull and throw.
Singularity is a useful power, but doesn't feel as fun to me as being able to lift someone in the air, and then send them flying off the map.
Shockwave is fun on LOKI mechs, cripples their legs and they crawl after you and your team. Never noticed any other enemies do it, but I might have been to busy dropping dropping scumbags to notice. It is also the best weapon against a flood of husks... run back, let them line up, and watch them go everywhere - a melee or two if they get close, and use your squad to pick off stragglers.
I find Garrus and Miranda make an awesome team for my FemShepAdept - double heavy overloads makes up for my weakness against shields. Miranda can warp as well, Garrus has concussion shot (which I love watching him use) or AP ammo for the squad with heavier weaponry to boot.
Currently playing on veteran, and except for a few bits with some heavy armor I feel like a god on the battlefield.

Adept is really fun. It's the most fun class I've played yet, but it's not good for Insanity difficulty. If you're looking for a fun game and you're playing on Veteran, then yes, play Adept. It's worth it.
Don't let what people are saying stop you from trying. A lot of the dislike for Adepts comes from people who're playing on the harder difficulties.

Completed my NG+ on hardcore with my Adept a couple of days ago. Focused on Wide Singularity and Unstable Warp; It was a lot of fun. Much better than Warp/Reave spam, IMO.

Veteran and below Adept should feel like a biotic god.
Biotic combos ftw.

I had immense fun playing as my adept. Of course, I haven't played the harder difficulties yet. Is reave really that good, guys?

Don't put points into Reave, and you won't feel like you are spamming Reave/Warp. Reave is overrated for Adepts. Warp/Singularity already do everything it does (the heal is honeslty useless), except for area barrier stripping, and that's useful for like 3 missions tops.
Put points in Area Energy Drain and use allies with Area Incinerate/Overload; you will strip whole groups of their defense bars, which makes for easy crowd control.
