Following is moved from a thread originally in ME forums:

I propose we eliminate the following words/ phrases from common usage here:

1)Troll- once used to indicate a poster who's only purpose was to provoke an emotional response, now a term used to label anyone that presents an opinion not 100% in agreement with your own.

2) QQ- intended to graphically demonstrate tears falling from two eyes.  Used to indicate that the indicated poster is "crying."

3) Fanboy-used originally to indicate a fan who's love for game/ music/ movie/ whatever blinds him to all legitimate criticism.  Now used to label anyone who expresses any support whatsoever for a title.

4) Hater- Originally used to indicate someone expressing irrational and inaccurate opinions about a title.  Now used to attack anyone with ANY criticism, legitimate or not.

5) Whine-see "hater" above

6) Epic Fail- should be banned simply for overuse. Trite.

7) This (following quoted post)- used as a substitute for posting original ideas.

8) butthurt (this may be the most pathetic expression of all)- insulting term used to describe anyone expressing concerns/ criticisms that you do not agree with.

9) Moar... (stupid misspelling is stupid)- kids in college today are having to take remedial spelling because of STUPID colloquial misspellings in common usage.  Words like this just make you look like an idiot.  Just stop.

10) "Obvious Troll is Obvious" or any variation on this phrase.- was cute the first 15 times we heard it.  No longer cute or clever.

11) STFU or GTFO- these are just rude and have no place in civil discussion.

These expressions serve only to make the poster sound like a 9 yo child and start flame wars.

Oh... emm... why such hard feelings? I mean, some of these words DO tend to become annoying fast, but still, can't see a big reason. Still, I don't believe I have said any of those, at least, not when I was in my body :P

*Obvious Troll is Obvious*

Sorry, you were asking it for.

Anyway, I'm almost inclined to agree with your suggestions.

Almost.

Is there a reason why you yourself don't abide by your own rule?

I propose something different. When people use phrases incorrectly, that should be pointed out to help them. If they attack others (and engage in trollish behavior) they should be called out for it by moderators and possibly disciplined. These forums currently do suffer from an abundance of trolls and similar vermin, and simply banning the proper way of adressing them will not make them go away. The only things capable of doing that are the all-healing power of love and

Aw, I love the town crier's comment of 'epic fail' after you complete the main quest line in Orzammar. I laughed so hard when I heard that.

Yes, there is a reason these two were in order : )

The take home information here is not to take this too seriously : )

Feel free to add common forum annoyances, I'll edit them into the OP.

I think most people here are smart enough to be able to choose which words they'll use in their answers (at least, I hope so). I do not know of these ME forums you are talking about, Orogenic, neither have I ever seen a flame war in these forums (correct me if I am wrong) It is impossible to have a forum that is completely free of annoying people. There will always be people that post silly things or behave in an appropriate way on message boards. 't Is the tragedy of the Internets. Let's just all try our hardest to stay polite and things like that (and think before we post something). It would help making these forums an enjoyable place to talk about various things with each other.

Oh yes, personally, I don't have a problem with most of the things you mentioned, Orogenic, but I must admit that I hate the abbreviations 'STFU' and 'GTFO'. Those expressions can be really insulting and overall, terribly annoying.

NEVER! We drove those bastard engines out, I won't see them take this place again!

A search engine would be handy... I'd also like the function to add topics to My Topics, like on the old Bioware forums. In here it's kind of a hotchpotch when you're looking for a particular topic...

If this function also works here, please tell me!

BTW, darky, why are you against a search engine? I'd think they are practical...

Oh, I have nothing against them. I simply don't see a use of them. But then again, I don't see any use of many useful things...
