Well, upon the last bit of install of MSSQL, my computer went into an endless reboot.
(Almost like a virus) I would ask for help, but I think at this point I'm done with Dragon Age
and Bioware.

Good luck to everyone else. I hope you're having better luck than me.

Yeeeaaaa..... Me thinks that something got messed up with the SQL part of the installation.

It looks like the default directory that Steam installs Dragon Age into has a path longer than 58 characters, but the MSSQL Express installer bundled with the toolset chokes when it tries to install to a path that long.

We're looking into this now and if it's the case we'll try to come up with some sort of workaround.

Yeah.  Blame BioWare for a likely Microsoft issue.  :)  We go through that all the time at work.  Posted Image

Is it just me, or do an awful lot of people have an awful lot of problems with an awful lot of programs through Steam? I gave up on Steam after dealing with it to run HL2. actually caused me to stop playing HL2 just because of the frustration of dealing with the Steam app and the way it tended to use my system resources, but everybody I know (real people i mean, not all you online figments ;)) has had serious problems every time they use Steam to get anything.

Mine is CD retail, not steam.

After the initial lack of communication about the toolset's delay and now this horrible reboot problem.
I'm going to have to say that Dragon Age Origins isn't a product that I'd like to continue supporting
for now.

I won't bash Bioware as some might consider I've done before. However, I will say that I'm disappointed
and I'll be rather careful before I purchase another Bioware product.

I do sincerely hope that other customers are not going through the issues that I am.  Because I'm
more of a tinkerer/modder than I am a "gamer", I would consider the toolset to be what I invested in.
(I know it's a free addition) Unfortunately, I'll just have to wait until it's a bit more polished
(That's only if I can get past this truely disheartening disappointment.)

Anyway, good luck with this Bioware. Hopefully you get the kinks ironed out.

Yep, I'm in the same boat with the Steam/MSSQL issue. Subscribing to this thread and hoping for a fix soon.

And btw, you guys at Bioware get too much sqwack and not enough kudos, so thank you for a terrific game and thank you, Bryan, for the timely info.

Install went flawlessly for me with D2D version. That may be because I already had the SQL server installed for my development work though. MSSQL server is a bit finicky installing for the first time on many systems :/ - and the path issue posted about by Bryan could indeed cause problems (a shortsight on microsoft's end, not BioWares)

I'm also going through steam and I am receiving the same symptoms for a path name longer than 58 characters.

Cut em some slack, I mean it's not often that companies release toolsets. Toolsets are usually buggy as hell, and companies just know the work arounds, but to make one publiclly available must take a lost of work. I mean, when's the last time they released a game with a toolset?

So...

Is it supposed to just lock up when it gets to ...

Execute: regsvr32.exe /s "D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\tools\\Engine.dll"

The toolkit is the only reason I bought the PC version so it better bloody work.

Hey, what's with the Nvidia PhysX drivers requirement for the toolset? I use AMD/ATI, do I need to install the drivers? Are there specific dlls that I need? Can I skip the Nvidia driver stuff if I don't deal with animations and such?

Hmm...

Neverwinter
Farcry 2
Halo
Oblivion
Fallout 3

Oh and when a game uses the fact that it has an editor as one of it's selling point, there's no slack to cut.

AMD works just fine, don't worry about the PhysX driver requirements.

Just to give you guys a quick update, my virus scanner (Kaspersky and several other unrelated

programs are causing my machine to reboot. This began only after I tried to install

the toolset. Looks like this little "problem" has done more damage than expected.

Looks like I'm going to have to reinstall windows just to be completely safe.

I'll be sure the Dragon Age CD along with my faith in Bioware makes it's way to

the trash can. If you decide to get the Toolset, please be aware that there's the potential

for some serious windows issues.

Hey thanks bioware. I really appretiate all the extra stuff you're throwing in with this game.

Oh wait, I still have to beat the game before I should start messing around with toolset.

GAr, Bioware this is all your fault. Why would you make an intensly addictive RPG that I feel compeled to finsh before I can make my own? How dare you.

Not one person in the beta over many many toolset installs had this problem.  Not one.
