What if Return to Ostagar didn't have a darkspawn necromancer as the antagonist, but instead had a demon possess Cailan's dead body and his minions possessing everyone else. Now THAT would evoke some pretty strong emotions, party and otherwise... seeing their fallen king rise up as a revenant. Oh, and as a bonus for Mage characters, it's none other than Mouse!

Why the hell would a demon be around darkspawn? That makes no sense.

Ignoring the tangental nature of that comment, why not? Darkspawn apparently hail from the Black City, the Black City is in the Fade, demons hail from the Fade. There IS a connection, at least to a degree.
Regardless, it was less about demons influencing darkspawn so much as demons possessing corpses. If you read the codex pages on any kind of undead, be they walking skeletons, zombies, revenants, or arcane horrors, all of them are demon-possessed dead people.

and the demon that was mouse in the origin for the mage was the same demon that possessed Uldred in the tower so he is dead i think....but with that being said that would be kinda cool to fight against a possessed king calin

How about him as a revenant with a league of fanged skeletons?
