Keep in mind, it is not really that simple and easy for everyone to go out and buy an HD TV. Especially, as most people have pointed out, their current TVs work fine, save for a couple games being difficult to read the text in.

HD TVs are expensive, especially when you have a perfectly good SD TV already.

No, they are not. If all of them can afford an Xbox 360 + $60 games, they can afford a $300 HDTV.

I do not wish to get into an argument...

However, buying a 360, and then a 60 dollar game, leaves you *without* that money.

having a 52inch 1080p plasma tv and not being able to read the text of a dialogue based game from 7 feet away, ridiculous. the 360 dashboard text is a perfectly readable size, has scroll bars when needed, and doesnt take up too much space. can i play games on the monitors you guys test this **** on?! ****.

Please try not to cuss. Bioware is working behind the scenes trying to solve this problem and I believe they believe it to be of some sort of priority, along with others. Cussing at them won't make em work faster, but cheering them on might. So instead of saying a cuss word, next time substitute it with 'go, team, go!' or 'gators rule!'.

I have a gut feeling they will come through for us. This is a classy development company and in the spirit of Olympic merriment they'll give us a gold model of a patch! Congrats on winning a gold metal today, Canada.

The best thing we could do is to try and tell Bioware our ideas to get this done (like using the Official Xbox Magazine, which I think it's still the best way to go) to help them out. The best thing Bioware can do, other than obviously finding a way to get this done once and for all, is to keep talking to the fans in this forum.

Because the anger starts when, after the problem, you have no answer.

this is  good advice, but I haven't subscribed to a magazine in over 8 years. The last being The Official PlayStation Magazine, which went defunct. And I don't buy magazines since they are basically, a waste of money, and just ends up being thrown away. Online is the fastest form of disseminating information quickly, timely and efficiently.

I rather that the patch be offered as a download, or a way to store the patch on A USB memory stick (via a download from BioWare's or EA's support site) and then plugged into my 360 to install it.

I would buy a magazine if it had a patch that fixed this issue.

Oh, they're fixing this, nice!

I read all codex etc in ME, but in ME2 it's just too straining on the eyes, even on a hdtv.

I've got Philips Cinema 21:9, a last generation HDTV. The game looks wonderful and you can read the text, but I agree with SDTV owners, if you compared the text size with ME1, it is really small. It's not a matter of buying a HDTV, it's a matter of game design. Why did they make the font smaller?...

One of the reason I've got an XBOX is because I don't have to worry for upgrading my HW every 18 months to play a game... why should people have to buy a HDTV for a game?. Taking in account all the SDTV compliant XBOX games in the market, that argument of buying a HDTV is really blatant and useless...

I hope EA comes with a fix to this.

@ Jesse Houston: thank you, everyone here appreciates what you're doing.

@ DeeLite808: i don't buy magazines anymore, too, but it would be the cheapest way to give the patch to the fans without using Xbox Live (with the 4MB limit and all that). Of course using Xbox Live/internet would be much better :D but, if they can't, with the official magazine it would come to fans inside and outside USA without many problems... i hope!

I was thinking... Turn 10, with Forza Motorsport 3, have released a patch including the animation of the driver changing gears (in the cockpit view). This animation wasn't included in the full game.

Now, can you achieve to include different animations within the 4MB limit? Really?! I don't know anything about programming, but it seems very unlikely to me :D would be worth investigating maybe? :D

I'm upping this thread, hoping to get some news from Bioware regarding this issue (and for the Forza Motorsport 3 patch I've mentioned above).

Can I hope I will be able to read?

Should I play the game with my nose squashed on the screen (since I still didn't play it, despite the fact I've bought it on day-one)?

Can we get some news without having to bring up the flame and the anger again? Several threads regarding this issue aren't enough?

It's been a month and half since the game came out, can we see the light at the end of the tunnel? Please? Pretty please?

Not to be rude but are you sure you don't need glasses?  I can read the text on screen using a SDTV from about 2 m or so.  The extent of the recharge cable for my controller anyway.  It is small and I from time to time have difficulty with it (mainly when I am very tired) so it is not like it is not an issue.

Also what brightness setting do you use?  I have the game brightness at +2 since otherwise the N in N7 is not visible.  Perhaps you should experiment with both the game brightness and with your TV settings.

I have more difficulty with reading some of the options for conversations due to being lost against the background then from size issues.  Also what text are you refering to?  The codex entries?  The conversation wheel options?  The information on the target bar...that I can barely read I have to admit.

I find it odd it is so bad for you but not that bad for me.  Is it a question of your TV screen size?

Didn't they mentioned they won't fix this issue? Where is all this hope coming from, unless I missed an announcement.

Actually I already wear glasses
The "tiny text issue" is something that many HDTV users have experienced, too (you can find posts in this thread, I think, or in the other threads that have been closed by Bioware), there was a 15 page thread with people complaining (almost all SDTV owners, but some HD owners too) so... what TV do YOU have? Really, I have a 33" 4/3 TV and the codex and dialog choices are always very difficult to read if I don't seat very near to the screen (i usually play more than 2 meters away from the screen). The complain started because the read in Mass Effect 1 was perfectly readable, was bigger and in bold. No reason to change it.
But really, we've discussed this in HUNDREDS of posts. I'm just asking for some news, since Bioware seemed like they were trying to get this done. Maybe.

@ Heartlocker: You can find some posts from Bioware's Jesse Houston in this thread, saying that they were trying to get this done despite the 4MB Limit for patches on Xbox Live. It's been more than a month, and I (and, I think, all the people that have posted in this and the other threads) would like to know if a 100+ professional team from an award-winning software house can increase the text font.

Have you considered getting your perscription updated? That's got to be worse than 20/40 - 20/50 vision, the legal minimum for driving. I play on a 37" display from about 8 feet away, and I can read the ingame text just fine. And, that's after 1.5 semesters of pretty much THE WORST thing you can do to your eyes (law school). I'll get back to you in a couple of years, tho' when I'll probably share your disposition until I get a new pair of glasses.

yep true, they looked said nope, thats it end of story

they just dont care about SDTV compatibility or it would have been tested,

only thing you can do is dont buy another bioware title for xbox (unless you are HD)

No, that's not true.  Jesse Houston, a Bioware representative and producer of ME2, said, "[I] check this post several times a day, delete the flak/hate/trolling and read and investigate the good thoughts.  I obviously can't comment on a lot of my investigations, but I haven't forgotten about you folks and I will update this thread as I find out anything."

Now you're just speculating, but I would like to see Jesse or another Bioware rep. respond to the following comment:

In the case of Burnout (I've asked about this case earlier) is that they have a clause that allows them to require hard drives. We don't (and can't post release) have and definitely do not want to have that clause associated with our game.

You would rather have your games require an HDTV, which is more expensive than a hard drive and not a Microsoft product?

http://social.biowar...81158/3#1153412

Lastly, a suggestion, if not a very good one: a 'disc exchange' for SDTV users has been ruled out (for the time being) but what about supplying them with a 'text companion' -- something that maps out the dialogue wheel options?  Surely such a thing already exists -- would it be difficult to organize it for public release?

Just like I said some times ago on other threads, I knew this issue would not be addressed.

Time passes, people stop to complaining (we can't complain forever, that doesn't mean that the issue is solved), and all thing return to normal.

On a more serious note:

I haven't played this game much due to this issue. I did a quick run through, and just guessed about the nuances of what was going on. I am pretty much waiting for the day that I can afford a decent HD television, though that will have to wait until after some surgery in a couple of months, a visit to my godchild afterwards, getting the money together to set up a college fund for her, helping a destitute friend fix his roof, and a few other things.

Though complaints may have slowed (many people aren't as stubborn as I am), it would be nice to know if any sort of progress has been made on this issue, or has it been put on the back burner. I know that Jesse Houston pledged at one time to check this deal regularly, and it would make sense that he would slow down on checking up on this thread since complaints have slowed, but an update would be nice. Especially since I will probably keep going on and on and on about this issue.

Hell, I even contacted Microsoft and confirmed the issues brought to light here and elsewhere concerning updates to released games (not that I don't trust you, Jesse, I am just a paranoid and suspicious person). That took about two weeks. I still need to check up on a few other things, but work has gotten in the way.

Darn work, getting in the way of my video gaming...
