You know, those forum RPGs where posters pretend they're certain characters.

Most of these that I've come across... are very little like their tabletop counterparts. Depressingly so.

Has anyone actually come across an online group that at least tries to play like a table top version? With actual quests and battles, and no chunky paragraphs dedicated to revealing your character's thoughts and feelings every single post.

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. RPs?

I hope this isn't a troll attempt, since I'm gunna fall for it:

RPG = Roleplaying game

Tabletop RPGs, also known as pen-and-paper RPGs, are the kind where you and a bunch of friends gather at any single location and play. http://en.wikipedia....e#Pen_and_paper

Play-by-Post RPG would be the forum-based counterparts, but the ones I've come across are more along the lines of... well... there's very little actual dungeon exploring and quests, just characters talking to each other and describing their feelings. I'm not trying to say its a bad style of playing, just one I am not personally interested in.

I think he's wondering if you intend to start one. We all understand the concept of RPGs.

This is BioWare's forums, afterall.

EDIT: Alrighty.

Forum RPs usually have a distinct lack of rules. There is usually a group of moderators who decide if something is "ok". Are you talking about making an RPG with rules and such? On a forum?

I ran a D&D campaign with some online friends via skype (voice chat instead of IM) and a virtual table top which would let me upload my maps so we could move our icons around as if we were sitting around a table doing the same thing. Wizards of the Coast has set up a virtual tabletop if I remember right, in addtion to Dungeons & Dragons Online. You can also do some roleplaying in NWN and NWN2, but I don't know many details about these.

Well if that is what he meant, then I do indeed plan to start one. The first day we're (there's 4 of us) playing is this Sunday actually, we've already reserved forum-space and plan on using group instant messaging for any OOCness. The goal is to use 1st Edition rules to see how this set up works.

But what examples of forum RPGs out there do seem very lacking in the rules and the dice rolling. To put it simply, I want to know if anyone knows of anyone online that has tried doing an actual D&D online game before.

To see what problems they had and so on.

@Jae Onasi

Actual voice chat sounds like a good idea. I'll have to see if everyone in my group has a mic.
