Yeah, and there's another one right after that. The fact that those posts would get really long would make it easy for people to notice.

Oh gosh, I never thought about it to even realize there was a limit.  I've posted 3500+ word chapters and never had a problem, but that's the most I've tried to test it.  SoLD's idea to copy and paste into word is probably the only we'll know, I've never hit max.


ETA: So because I was curious, I checked, and it looks like the max I ever tried to post was pretty close to 23,000 characters.   So I guess the limit is at least over that?  That's with spaces, I believe.

Maybe it's about lines? For 'I Am Not A Tragic Figure' all of the chapters are at least 8K and one was about 9.5K and I didn't have a problem.

Edit: Speaking of, what's a good general rule of thumb for considering a story epic-length instead of just long?

I'm pretty sure it's characters, as the few times post 1 has maxed out (and I've pushed the end fics into post 2) it was not the end of the line that cut out but actual characters. IIRC the last time it happened it cut out in the middle of a *link*.

Hang on, I'm on lunch break so I'll check post 1 now...keep in mind I'm copy/pasting the UBB code to preserve full links:

55,756 characters (no spaces), 62,119 (inc spaces).
(for the curious, 6,946 words, 1,267 lines).

From memory, it's 1 or 2 entries short of max, depending on how hefty those entries are of course. I'll fiddle with maxing it out later to see what I get.

Yep, definitely characters (carriage returns count. I just deleted a few to test the lines theory, and it let me add the same number of letters to the end of the post).

Edit: Culled some code that wasn't doing anything, so that'll give me a little more space.

Edit 2: Where long and epic are concerned, we don't have a rule. Personally I'd think anything over 100k to be epic. That's just me.
