I must say I'm a  bit irritated that I'm being penalised for not making a rogue. 80% of the chests I've come across I can't open. In older Bioware games you could smash a chest open. But in this game you can't. So because I didn't make a rogue I miss out. Hardly seems right to me...

Other than that its a great game so I guess its not a big issue. But it is annoying..to me.

You can get a Rogue later.

And if you don't make a mage, you miss out on casting spells. I'm not sure I'm seeing your point here.

lol, i love the bluntness of all the mods on this site. No beating about the bush round here like on other gaming forums. Keep up the good work.

:( I have to wait until the 20th November to get my copy :(

I'm a rogue myself and I can't open the chests. And I don't really feel the need to. I've only got 1 point in lock picking.. just isn't worth it IMO

I'm not really annoyed by there being locked chests and having to bring a rogue along, that's fairly normal. I was however annoyed that I spent 4 talent points to max out the lockpicking line and still wasn't able to access many of the chests I came across. Kind of irksome really as 4 talent points is quite a large investment.

the more i think about it the more it seems a total waste of points to put points in lockpicking.

Total garbage in all the ones i found so far and with extra points in the skill still a bunch you can not open.

Oh well, if i felt like reliving all the dialog from intro i'd reroll but I can' bring myself to drag thru all the intro drag. It was great one time thru but again? No. i'll wait for a mod to fix this game.

I only bother to open chests near places where i can quickly change party members. I just put points into lockpicking for one rogue who I don't use at all. Got a few things that sold well that way.

Why do game houses..always publish games in America first?....Seems they have done nothing but gripe as they do with most things.

I like that I can't get into the chests. Always felt kind of guilty taking stuff out of chests in other games that wasn't mine, but also felt like I had to to keep up. Now I know that I'm not supposed to go around taking everything in sight and am not missing out on anything.

Feeling guilty about looting people's stuff?  Obviously you have forgotten rule #14...

I like the bluntless of your reply even though it wasn't really called for..but I feel you did miss my point. You should be able to break open chests. They are after all, only made of wood. As if a locked chest would stop a warrior with a sword or mace. Or even a mage with rudimentry fire magic. And I am used to having to have a rogue in the team. I've been playing Bioware and Black Isle games since the old days. Like I said. It was only a minor gripe.

I do think its rather funny that those who have made a rogue still can't open most of them. Kinda begs the question..why are they there in the first place?

Think of the chests as a nice little bonus for those who invested in lock picking for their rogues.

Very rarely do you ever actually find something great in them and you need to take all four levels to open every chest...points that could be used elsewhere.

I understand it is annoying for a realism standpoint but I understand it for game reasons.

This is not a game that requires a rogue. The chests are essnetially garbage and it will not prevent you from going anywhere. Im the type that likes to explore these games top to bottom but I dont in any way feel compelled to take one on the next play play through. I am finishing this go around with liliana to see her full (romance) story line. Next time will be m/m/w/w and no lost sleep on missing anything. I wont.

They don't always publish games in America first. There are plenty of great games that are released in Europe first...of which I am jealous. Here's a few:

Drakensang, Risen, Divine Divinity 2, Forza 3, Trackmania United, Sacred 2, Stalker, Two Worlds...and on and on and on. There are also plenty of devs in Asia that release a load of games in their markets, long before they are available in the USA, if at all.

Get a rogue with lots of cunning and you'll be able to open most chests. One good build to take advantage of cunning is to have atleast two mages take the cold and or petrify path and have a bard focus on critical hits and sing the song that regens mana. The build works suprisingly well.
