On my first playthrough as a soldier, I picked up the Revenant Light Machine Gun... about thirty minutes later I realized that I hated the gun. The Vindicator is more accurate and with adreneline rush, does more damage overall (half the shots don't miss).

I figured I'd just pick up the Widowmaker Sniper on my second playthrough to swap out for the Revenant LMG but... I was never offered a choice on the second time i.e. the weapon you pick on your first run is permanent.  :(

If anyone either knows or figures out how to mod my current save file to remove the revenant in my inventory and replace it with the widowmaker, I'd be hugely appreciative.

Also, I think offering a chance to swap out on subsequent playthroughs would be a nice addition to a future patch. Thanks to anybody who can help with this; I have zero modding skills.

erm. if you played through with a me1 save... import it again.

Sure you start from scratch, but playing each game with different perspectives is waht the game is nearly about... you just gotta.

i love the revenant, it has more ammo, and a shot in fairly accurate bursts, full auto on heavy targets. it was so good it basically replaced my heavy weapons :P i only use cain on thresher maw and larva.

Also starting with a ME1 import rewards you more than starting with an ME2 import. ME2 you get 200k credits and 50k resources, plus %25 bonus xp, your armor and weapons. You don't get your resources that you saved up, you don't get the research you performed, no bonus to paragon/renegade.

If you re-import your ME1 character again you get the import bonuses, paragon bonuses, long service bonuses (200k credits, 50k resources), %25 xp bonus. It just makes more sense to start with ME1 again.

My first playthrough WAS with an me1 char; I'm currently going through with that same character for a second run. Gonna try for an ending where approximately half the crew/team die but garrus, tali and zaeed make it out. Just annoyed that i got this far on a second me2 replay and am stuck with the revenant again. Most loyalty quests are finished, again. Not interested in doing 60% of the game a third time.

I'll just stick it out, but I really want to play around with the Widowmaker. Didn't get the viper till after the ship on my first run, and now I love to snipe. Oh well, maybe it'll be patched in or someone will find a way to mod appropriate file.

i found the same thing, i like the revenant but wanted to grab the widowmaker on my second run to have them both, but no can do. i dunno why it hasn't been patched and i'm not confident it ever will, as for save hacking someone should be able to help you.
as for the vindicator v revenant personally i'll take the geth and collector rifles over the vindicator any day, and though the revenant is monstrous i'll still go geth or collector for most missions, except for the ones with loads of husks, nothing can get through them like the revenant.

Same here.  I barely used my HW with my soldier except for some heavy targets and even then the Rev. chews through them fairly well with the right ammo and adrenaline.  I've never gone with the Widowmaker with my soldier but my infiltrator excells with it.  I'm just thankful my engineer and adept can at lest use the Mattock by the time you get to the collector ship.  With the accuracy upgrade it's deadly accurate and hard hitting at that.

There is a way to do that with the Gibbed save editor. You can try searching about that. You essentially just edit which weapons are applied to Shepard. If you go to a weapons locker it will reset though.

I only did this when I changed classes and it has been forever ago, otherwise I would give you the exact procedure.

As others have said, just import again from ME1, since that's better than playing through an ME2 character a second time. And this time make a named saved before you get to that collector science station.

Nah, just need the M-92 Cain.  Shot the Final Boss with it and he didn't die... oh no! So Legion sniped him once (with the Widowmaker, which I didn't have but he did from research)  and he died.

Every other "boss" fight in the game, one shot kills with the Cain... even the Thresher Maw.  Praetorians? Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaajor overkill with the full barrier up they die. One shot.

I have but one piece of data to add to your argument:

Imported ME1 saves start at level 3

Imported ME2 saves start at level 30

Data point two is EXTREMELY helpfull when you decide to replay the game on hardcore or insanity for the achievement!

Keep the bolt action snipers for the infiltrators and the assault shotguns for the vanguards. I just created a new saves for the revenant and the claymore. Got to play through with both

You do realise your advice is over a year too late, and people have figured out how to get all 3?
