Regardless of your Shepard's gender & species partner, would it be possible for ol'Shep to became a parent by the end of ME3?  If you romance an alien, is it possible for Shep to the "impossible" again? (Not counting asari...unless you have the 1st male asari kid...goodbye monogendered!)

... No.

It's simply biologically impossible.

You can't just ignore the fact Shepard and his/her partner can be of a different species. Liara is conceivable, but Garrus, Thane, and Tali aren't. Then again, it's science fiction...but seriously.

They could always adopt.

I wouldn't mind adopting a kid. Maybe a Colony orphan, like my Shepard that's with Tali.

With the human or asari LIs, sure. Tho I hope only on a discussion level, ie. Shep and the LI talk about having kids once this fracas with the imminent end of all intelligent life in the Galaxy is over. No five years later cutscene with a baby, please.

With the other aliens? A "jump the shark" moment for the IP, when fanservice for the freaky fringe simply goes too far.

Sure, as long as I don't have to pay child support for cheating on Ashley.

My Shepard would happily adopt a child with Tali after they'd spent a few years roaming the galaxy having adventures.

I love how you're still hung up on trying to call people interested in/having alien LIs are part of a 'freaky fringe' when, simply by the number and types of LIs, a good half of the player population is going to have an alien LI. Seriously, though, drop it. It was cute on the old forums, but it's gotten really old, really fast.

I'm just saying; ol'Shep is constantly mentioned for doing the impossible. I know each sci-fi has its own bending of the laws of physics & biology, but w/ the genetic expertise of Mordin Solus, telling him its a new challenge might give make the impossible possible for an human-like alien love interest & Shep. Just putting it out there...

There are all sorts of ways a family can be called a family and not just by biological means...

What if... and this is a What If scenerio (and i'm thinking outloud here)

The flotilla takes massive damage and just limps to survival victory. thousands of Quarian children are left orphans.

in some sort of 'happily ever after' Tali (Sheperd Love interest....) and Sheperd adopt some Quarian children, as the Reaper threat is now gone, Sheperd spends his days with Tali and helping the Quarians resettle on their homeworld (assuming Paragon ending where Quarians and Geth make peace).

i don't know.

It'd be interesting to see how Bioware handles the last chapter and the love interest. I hope Bioware doesn't just deal with romance in the sense of build up, intimate moment before final mission and than somehow love interest becomes estranged from you...

See the sig. I have adopted it for such situations.

Edit: The only possible way is via the methods Miranda was created, or basically the artificial method by which asari create offspring.

The method would be you would find genetic analogs of traits found in other species and craft them into the genome randomly in place of other traits and thus make a pseudo-sexual reproduction.

However, the baby would be 100% what it was made from. If it was based on human DNA it would be 100% human, if it was based on quarian DNA it would be 100% quarian. Etc.

The only problem I see with adoption is that Shepard has made a loooot of orphans (sure, if you were Paragon, their parents weren't necessarily that great, but still). That could come back to bite him/her once the kid gets older.

Hmm, while that would be interesting I don't see it happening.

Knowing Bioware I don't think kids will ever be shown, maybe when hell freezes over

and pigs fly they'll let you and your LI talk about it.

But first they have to clean up the mess of having 2 love interests and then give you

and whoever you choose a good conclusion.

Also depending how you played the game, maybe it's a bad ending?

could be in a cutscene, like a final cutscene for the character before it goes into Epilogue to see how the decisions you made have effected the galaxy.

that way they dodge endangering children from combat situations or ass hats who think it's funny to shoot at kids.

Biology. the major subdivision of a genus or subgenus, regarded as the basic category of biological classification, composed of related individuals that resemble one another, are able to breed among themselves, but are not able to breed with members of another species. (From dictionary.com) If 2 animals copulate & have an offspring & that offspring can have offspring, then they are more closely related than thought or they are a variation of the same species; unless you want to go the Star Trek route, humanesque species often have viable offspring; ex: Spock. Heck, in SW: Clone Wars episode "the Deserter" a clone has 2 kids w/ a Twi'lek. It's sci-fi, so the rules are flexible.

Mass Effect 4: Parenting sim! Now with more daddy issues!

It wouldn't work, since some combinations are biologically impossible as far as we know. Tali/Shep for one. Unless they adopt Legion or something.

As fiction, anything is possible. However, BioWare generally seems to take a "as realistic as possible" approach to most issues. Which I highly approve of and is one of the reasons that make this game so fun.

I agree, but still if Shep & alien LI try hard enough, w/ non test-tube baby but genetic modification help from Mordin Solus, anything is possible...

uh, no. Its like saying if we try hard enough we can procreate with bacteria. They have DNA too, so why not?

See the sig.

I agree with the sig, except for the "unless with a human" part. I'd change it to "at all".

I know this is an RPG, but so many people are making romance, sex and having kids a huge part of the game. Sometimes I think people don't realise there's an actual story arch. Reapers, people, remember? Why turn one of the best sci-fi RPGs into even more of a space-soap-opera than it already is? If you want Shepard to have kids, go read some fanfiction, or write your own. Every voice inside my head screams that having Shepard play the family man/woman is fundamentally wrong.
