Middle Eastern. Quarrian clothing and history resemble something from Arabians too. I heard in a podcast more specifically about it. But it's definitely and intentionally middle eastern.
Tali's accent?

Just curious to see what other people think her accent is based off of. I always thought her accent was derived from eastern european countries such as czech republic/ romania or somthing.
She's a gypsy. That's all you need to know. Her people wear environmental suits not for protection from disease but protection from people stealing their tears which have miraculous healing powers.

Have the people who keep saying Tali has an Arab accent ever met Arabs? As someone who's lived in the middle east, I shall point out that there is little similarity.
No. But the point is she's talking english with arabian accent. Comparing with what I've seen on this kind of accent on movies, it's kinda accurate.

Clearly they haven't.
This is coming from someone who's spent considerable time in Oman, UAE and Jordan.

Persia..yyyy... Turkish IMO
I thought that I recognized the voice of Tali's aunt (the one on the Admiralty Board) from a couple of episodes of FlashForward, and it turns out I was right. Just checked and she's from Iran.
On the other hand however, the surname of the actress playing Tali is Polish... or at least there is a Polish word (spelled and pronounced the same way) and it means 'magpie'. But, the accent itself is far more Turkish/Iranian than Polish.
Hey,
I am Turkish and i have a lot of Iranian friends. But i can tell you for sure that it is neither an Iranian or Turkish accent.
U can check some youtube vids and hear for yourself
Both accents sound really funny but definitly not like Tali

- I'm romanian and I can tell there is some serious misconceptions here. In EEurope there are many countries with very different languages.Beerfish wrote...
Eastern European all the way in my books.
- @JKoopman, what you just said about romanian and gypsies is like talking about an US citizen and assuming therefore that he is a portorican or haitian.
- Ontopic, Tali definitely has not romanian accent, but a slavonic one, like russian or polish, so, in a way, could be considered Eastern european. Listening her, "still" from a certain replica is spoken with a specific softness.

So much so that I actually showed her a Youtube clip of Tali talking and she just started laughing and couldn't believe it.

Tali's accent isn't E.European - neither any of the Slavic languages, neither Romanian (as a poster above noted, although wrongly in regard to other languages in the region) sounds like that. At all, Russian by far being the most different than her voice. Bulgarian and Serbian, too, they're sharper and louder - somewhat similar to German, even if not as acute - and as a Bulgarian, I can clearly say no.
As an Eastern European, it sounds to me eastern - whether Asia Minor or Central Asia, take your pick - mostly Indian, to be honest.
PS. hoysexyjew's post - really, aren't you well educated and not at all racist...

Hungarian isn't slavic nor indo-european, but it doesn't matter, maybe you are right about Asia.
I know - I deliberately excluded it from my post as I don't understand Hungarian/Magyar and I didn't want to add to the confusion, no disrespect ... cheers!

The confusion isn't in East/Central Europe
But I still can't figure out which accent is Tali's.
