Ok after seeing a Let's Play video of a guy miserably failing to kill the Ogre on Tower of Ishal and a friend of mine having trouble on it, let me to a little "Dummies" guide.
SPELLS RECOMMENDED U HAVE
Winter Grasp (the one that freezes if I get name incorrect)
Fire Blast (The spell you use the 'template' range to aim)
Heal
rejunevate (The spell which heals your party's stamina and/or mana)
Lightning Bolt (The spell which shoots out a bolt of lightning if I get name incorrect)
If you use this method efficiently you can kill the ogre without the use of Mana/Health Potions or similar
If a party member of yours dies then do not worry. As long you have 2 or 3 party member left (including yourself).
PARTY MEMBERS AND ROLE IN THE FIGHT
You (Mage): You should stand back in the fight while not only supporting/healing your members but also to deal probably most of the damage.
Alistair: Alistair should be one of the two or three tanks at your disposible. Make sure Alistair is the first person to attack the Ogre.
Soldier (1): This is the soldier without the Crossbow. He should either attack first or follow after Alistair. Make sure either he or Alistair keeps the Ogre's attention.
Soldier (2): This soldier has a Crossbow. Along the way if you have found any special bolts on the way you may give them to him if you wish. This soldier, like you should take a defensive roll if you wish. Make sure you change the soldier's gear into Melee if Alistair or Soldier (1) dies to take their place as the tank.
And that concludes the Ogre Boss Fight for Dummies as a Mage. If you are unhappy or have anything else to add be sure to comment.

Paralysis Explosion.
I admit I had a lot of trouble with this fight the first time I got there. I was playing a Mage PC, but my spells weren't that helpful. I had the Sleep line and the Walking Bomb line - not great spells against a single Boss opponent.
The second character I brought there was a Rogue Archer, and I fully intended to use the barrels to make the fight easier (I'd even designed that PC's personality around that sort of opportunism), but the fight was a breeze that time. I couldn't begin to tell you why.

Glyph of Paralyis and WInter's Breath are really the only 2 spells you need to beat this section. Just unload on the Ogre and it'll die pretty quick.

You don't need any tactics really. Just pound away, and keep the aggro on your tanks.
If you want to be cheap, you can kite the ogre, or use the barrels.

sleep is the quickest and easiest method to kill the ogre, then give it a hits with some weakening spells (if you are a total noob in the game) and then a couple of offensive primal spells should do the trick. Once again this is only if your magic stats are below 20 in which case you have no idea how to play as a mage and i suggest you switch to a 2h warrior aka big damage low brainpower.

I found it resisted Sleep a lot. Otherwise I would have used the Sleep + Horror combination.

Depends on spellpower

On normal, took him out with nothing more than arrows/bolts. Hit him with pinning shots when the opportunity presented itself, and whoever he was after just ran around (I think that's what they call kiting). Nobody died, nobody got grabbed, and I don't even remember using healing potions.
But on my first run through, I had to do that fight like....oh, six times at least

With all points in spellpower, Sleep still gets resisted by most boss enemies.
Even if you could land it, the only point would be either Waking Nightmare or horror, neither of which last very long.

Glyph of paralysis works as trap. Get behind him for backstab. He can be stunned as well. Run around him circular away for his jump attack. you can watch him do his slow side steps and throw bombs at him. Don't let him ram you.

EDIT-sorry I just saw this was for mage.
Mage-I had all ice and fire spells at this point. Cone of Cold to stop him in his tracks, ice and fire spells while he's frozen, then run away again and use Cone of Cold again, rinse, repeat.
