Why not have the missions change based on who's in your squad for ME3?

One thing that I didn't like about ME2 was how your party members never really used their specialized skills. You get some special dialogue from different party members but it's really not very impressive.

Why not open up new paths and options on certain missions based on who's on your squad?

For example, if you were attacking a heavily guarded mercenary base and you had Thane with you, he can help you find hidden paths that'll let you avoid fights or sneak up behind your enemies. If you had Tali with you, she can help you find more salvage or hack automated defenses. If you had Morinth with you, she could use her powers to start a fight between the enemies.

Obviously, not every party member can't utilize their special skills on every mission so just give two or three party based paths/options per mission so that on one mission, you benefit from taking Legion while on another mission you benefit from taking Miranda. The mission briefing could tell you what kind of skills would be useful and give hints or suggestions on who you should take with you.

It's an intriguing concept, and could definitely open up more squadmate uniqueness and variability between playthroughs. Although I don't doubt it'd be a very large addition if fully utilized. Nevertheless, you can see some shades of this in the transition from ME1 to ME2, which unique skills and upgrades. Fleshing out that system, possibly in a way similar to your suggestion, would be a great advancement in ME3 imo.

This is an awesome idea. =D Also, I'd love to see more dialog and character development with your squad mates.

Well, obviously it would take way too much time to implement this idea on too much of the game. However, they should definitely do something like this on the story missions and some of the bigger side quests.

There were definitely parts in this game where I thought that having certain squad members would have helped the mission. For example, if you had Garrus with you on the Jack recruitment mission, maybe he could have helped disable some of the security systems. If you had Mordin with you when you went on the Collector ship or the derelict Reaper, he could have gathered some useful data on how to destroy husks or taken some tech that could be used for an upgrade.

My point was that since every character has a special set of skills, there would be situations on certain missions where those skills will come in handy. Garrus for example, spent many years working for C-Sec so he should know a lot about security systems. Therefore if you had Garrus with you on the mission to recruit Jack, it would have been nice if he had been able to help you sabotage or disable the prison's security systems.

A lot of this game was spent on creating a team with people who are the best at what they do. However, after you've recruited all these people, the most resourceful engineer, the deadliest assassin, the smartest scientist, the toughest soldier, the most powerful biotic, etc., you never really used their skills. What's the point of recruiting Thane, the deadliest assassin in the galaxy, if you never have him do assassiny things?

I just want there to be situations where your squad members really get to show their stuff. There should be instances where they prove that their usefulness to the team and show you why they are considered the best at what they do.

Because, depending on the scope, cost/dev time would make it a relative impossibility. Although, I am interested to see exactly how they are going to compile everything.

If something so elaborate were to be implemented in ME3, i would expect it only in key main quest junctions (ala Virmire in ME1 or ME2 ending) and/or loyalty like quests. This got me thinking of so many possibilities; great idea! Hope something along these lines will be included in ME3.

Too many variables to do such a thing.

It doesn't need to be done for every character on every mission. It only needs to be done for two or three characters for the story missions and maybe a few of the larger side missions.

It takes some extra work but it also increases replayability. Unlike in this game where having different characters on missions only lets you hear an extra line or two of dialogue, you could get extra sections on a mission or get a completely different way to finish the mission. Heck, they could trim some of the boring side missions to add some variety to the important missions.

I'm all for this idea to be implemented into ME3. Sure, it would have to be done in a way that doesn't take up to much of the development time, however, I think this idea would go a long way in making the game more immersive as you make decisions on how you tackle the missions and each player might have a different story to tell.

Why not actually have main plot missions that involve your side characters stories and motivations?
