Ok so I decided to do my first playthrough with Ash as my Sheperds romantic interest, but even after talking to her after every mission and choosing the "Ash is special" line when asked by Liara she still does not come to comfort me before you get the Normandy back.

I mean, why? Is it because when she insulted Liara I told her to knock it off, I mean do I have to side with her on that to progress?

So far I've had the family history and faith conversations with her, but after Virmire all she says is "Sorry Skipper, the guns won't clean themselves" and my dude just says "Dismissed Chief."

Any pointers on what went wrong?

I told her " she was out of line talking about aliens" so this means I won't get the romance option with her ??? This is not good.....

If telling her she was outta line for bashing the aliens on board makes it so you can't romance her that just insane, I mean how can that possibly tie in?

Man, I really wanted it to, only so I could cheat on her with Tali in ME2, thus introducing a character flaw into my othersie completely upstanding Paragon Shepherd.

the romance does not happen until you try to LAND on Ilos.

You have to tip-toe with Ashley on some conversations. You don't necessarily have to side with her, but you can't be out right hostile to her. For those conversations I went with neutral answers, and when she attacks Liara, I chose the "Calm Down." (I think) option.

ashley's dialogue is a minefield if you want to romance her. I remember when I tried to do a playthrough with an ash romance I had to save before every conversation and probably had to do more reloads than I did during an insanity difficulty playthrough

the worst that I remember was a response to her implying Shep's interest in Liara. if I remember right your choices were something like "yes I like her" or two different "no I don't like her" options, one of which actually turns out to really be "I like her but not for the reasons you think I do" which of course puts an end to any chance of romancing ash

Because rather than supportively and tactfully saying, "I understand your concerns, but this is how it is and I need you to cooperate," to which she'll respond that it won't be a problem, you hear she has a problem with aliens and beat her to death with the unacceptable intolerance card.  Ash is bringing up what she feels are legitimate concerns (aliens allowed to run free on a classified Alliance vessel) and you're slapping her in the face (figuritively speaking of course).  Is it really a surprise she doesn't want to pursue a relationship with you?

I've got like 22 hours knocked in on this playthrough, on Hardcore mode as well...I REALLY don't wanna have to start again to correct this, but I don't feel like continuing without it either. I really wanted to see teh Ash/Shep reunion in ME2 and then pursue a Talimance.



Damn, maybe i'll just start it again...22 ****in hours tho...man...

The simple solution is to ALWAYS use the top right answer when conversing with Ashley. That's what I did with both Ashley and Liara, minus one neutral time with Ashley, and I got the bonus scene of both of them confronting me in the debriefing room and forcing me to make a choice.

You could do the run on Casual to make it go faster if all you're really after is the Ash romance.  Also if all your really interested in is that one instance why not just do a bare bones playthrough, maybe doing Tali's quest, to make it even faster.

22 hours is a lot of work to just throw away though I reccomend finishing the playthrough, do New Game + on Casual, zip through, romance Ash, and be on your merry way.

I'm just gonna finish it I think and just concede that my character wasn't into Liara and ruined my chances with Ash.

The thing that takes the time is all the driving around in a Mako, etc, etc. Going through all the dialogue again to make the same choices again, don't think I could bear it.

Kaiden and Liara for FemSheps.

I only use one save file, just overwrite it after every mission world and use quicksave as I progress. Just never done the Ash romance before, wasn't really thinking, made a dumb mistake. It's cool tho

For Ash, you just gotta spam X in the paragon / good guy direction. Support her in everything, annoying yes, but probably a nice parallel to real life.

Although she brings up the completely wrong aliens (as does the guy who shows up to inspect the Normandy, for that matter). They mention Wrex and Garrus, I think Ashley even mentions Liara, while neither even mentions Tali (the one with the technical expertise who's hanging out in the engine room)

I guess nobody considers the flotilla a threat.  She can't very well steal the drive core and even with the technical schematics it's doubtful they'd be able to acquire the materials necessary to build it.  Admittedly though yeah she should be the one being watched not Wrex or Garrus, Liara I can understand as she's the daughter of your enemy's Lieutenant and as such warrants a certain level of suspicion.

She can definitely be romanced in two conversations, possibly even one. Go and talk to her after Virmire. For any of the romances in ME1 always selecting the top right option works. If you want to turn them "renegade" that won't do it but if you don't care the way to man's/woman's/mono gendered alien's heart is to press up-right and bash X.

when i first played ME1 i didn't know shepard and ash could have a little romance

it happened without doing special things.

i just made normal decisions that felt natural to say.
