The Talimance seems real from a story and literary standpoint. There's real reason for the attraction.. Jak's does to a lesser extent. The Miranda romance seems artificial. It seems tacked on. (And no, I don't hate Miranda.)

This is the real reason why. There's a lot of emotion and depth to Tali's story and romance.

Tali's character is strong and very capable, yet vulnerable. Tali and Shepard need one another's help, and in the second installment you see unequivocally that Tali cares a great deal for Shepard and trusts the commander completely. Even as a FemShep, it is very easy to feel close to Tali. If Shepard got addicted to Red Sand and pulled a "Leaving Las Vegas" kind of thing in a flophouse on Omega, and every other friend abandoned Shep, Tali would still be there trying to pull Shepard through.

That's pretty compelling, even if you aren't interested in pursuing the romantic option (or your Shepard is female.) If you're receptive to her romantic overtures, however, she says all the right things to play to a male ego, and says them with complete sincerity.

The character if Tali is very well written, and her voice actress deserves to win awards. That's "why Tali," for me, anyway.

Nicely put. I agree completely.

Tali is cute. A sweet, geeky/nerdy and somewhat shy girl (with nice hips!)

What are you talking about? the tali romance to me seemed like the most tacky forced thing ever, my shepard has never shown any interest in her ever and she still throws herself at me like some drunk ****

Yes.

Miranda has sex with you to get personal validation. That she's somehow more than just the genetically engineered tool of her father, Cerberus, etc.

Jack? There's one reason for sex with Jack. Though her plight has moved me, it boils down to her being Humpty Dumpty and you're the only one around with the Krazy Glue.

Tali's love for Shep is genuine.

the fact she probably reminds people of Kaylee Frye from Firefly.

You know, the first time I talked to her standing at the engineering console, I thought about Kaylee from Firefly. Take away the eastern european accent and the suit and that could so be her.

She actually gives reasons for wanting him and being interested in him that go far beyond Miranda's or Jack's, which basically boil down to "fix me."

Tali doesn't need fixing. She comes to you, coherent and capable. With a soft side, yes, but she doesn't step out of the airlock as damaged goods.

In real life, I'm far more likely to  like girls that like me, not girls that need me to hold them together emotionally. (Jack) Or where my job is to pour compliments down a bottomless hole because no one showed her she had value beyond her shell. (Miranda) I've been with a Miranda. It's exhausting.

I like tali because she is the ONLY chick left from the old normandy crew that actually stays with you minus the doctor & the way they did her romance by adding up from the mass effect 1 was great how she opened up to you about the past (or stalked you? idk). What can I say, I think it's more plot driven to why I like her outta all the others but im no fanatic like some of these other peeps lol. Not to mention the whole quarian plot going on in the floatilla is very interesting and will be nice to see how that plays out.

*spoiler sorta*

Tali states they may put her up for admiral if you dont get her exiled also....so yea interesting stuff here.

I think it's the mystery behind the shroud that makes her so fascinating to everyone. Kinda like Islamic culture. "I wonder what she looks like?" and the mystery of her culture.

I agree completely. I have been with both a Miranda and a Jack in real life. Tali is my escape.

She's good-looking, mysterious, very, very sweet with a bit of an edge, while extremely dependable. She's my favourite character in the series, still.

I really liked her loyality misson in Mass Effect 2 (was probably even my favorite), but I'm still no Tali fanboy and never understood the hype about her in Mass Effect 1. She really hasn't much text in Mass Effect 1.

Someone called her a Quarian information Kiosk in the first game and that's true to a large extent. But there were hints about her that gave her appeal, like first meeting her and her exuberance at being on the Normandy....and Adams' assertion that she could replace him in a month.

Those things have appeal on their own and also teased at the prospect of more.

Add to that the fact that it was revealed that she was a potential ME love interest that was scrapped in part because to paraphrase Casey Hudson, "No one's gonna be interested in the girl with chicken feet." (As though anyone that puts that body in that suit is inviting anyone to look at her feet.)

All that together and you unintentionally create a fan favorite for whom lots of people were litterally begging to romance.

Tali wasn't and still isn't my cup of tea, in fact I might sacrifice her on my next Renegade playthrough in prep for ME3. I did enjoy her loyalty mission though and her recruiting mission was quite good too.

Let me put it in the most simple terms: Miranda and Jack have relationships that are all about them. Shepard is important to both women because he offers to kiss their emotional boo-boos and make it all better. Tali, on the other hand, has a relationship that is all about Shepard. She watched him face challenges and overcome adversity, and her feelings for him are based on who he is, not just who he is to her.

"You're great" is a lot better to hear than "you make me think that I'm great."

@ OP:

Probably because in addition to having an attractive humanoid form (ignoring the 3 fingers and 2 toes, her chest and butt look great) and a sexy accent, she encompasses the "shy geek girl" persona that so many gamer guys find irresistable and her physical vulnerability also engenders feelings of protectiveness in males.

I like Tali, and she is definately one of my favorite characters. I figure that outside of her suit she would be damn near albino. Her skin and hair would most likely lack melanin (or the equivalent) since Quarian skin wouldnt need to protect them from UV rays. Who knows, she may not even have hair at all. It wouldnt serve a purpose. I would imagine that her eyes glow as an evolutionary response from the Quarians having to look through their tinted visors for generations. Kind of how feral animals eyes can "glow" in the dark. Anyways, just a prediction for how Tali looks under that mask (also kinda a response to the "Make Tali take her helmet off" thread in the spoilers forum...stupid cant post there yet).

I actually didn't like her in me1 but her charector really showed in me2. Garrus to even though he didn't talk as much. Maybe its because there the only 2 that willingly walked into hell with you plus if you listen to the biotics comercial on the citdel it mentions male shep and tali. They mention garrus if your femshep. I don't think it sais anything when with jack or meranda. Its on the wards where that reporter is that did a smear job on you in me1 and its near that solarian that sells video games

I got to say that Tali was perhaps the most interesting NPC in ME1, but in ME2 she gets overshadowed by others...
