Liara wins at her devotion. Samara wins at being an untouchable, code-abiding milf. A tie I say.

Epic summary.

Mrs. Robinson (Samara) never looked so hot...and dangerous. While Liara's innocence and then devotion to Shepard was a real win. Total tie.

Miranda > Ashley - Curves, Brains, Open mindedness, and much smaller chip on her shoulder. Get over your grandaddy issues already Ash! I'm' sick of hearing about it. Miranda is not actually perfect (do genetically engineered boobs really need a bra?), but she's undeniably easier to talk to. You don't get the same constant lip everytime you talk.

Kaiden > Jacob - Jacob got off to a good start, but his character got
aggrivating very quickly. I gave up on him after asking about his prior
dealings with Miranda. For once I wish I could have responded to him
like Jack responds to everything. "You know what F--- you then." Kaiden
on the other hand seemed to really try to build a friendship. I
actually felt really bad about the choice I made on Virmire, compared
to actively selecting Jacob first for Sucidie Mission duties.

Wrex > Grunt Wrex's character is just more mature. Always focused on the larger issues, Wrex's dialog and personality make for an interesting experience. While Grunt's situation gives you a rare look into the Krogan culture, he always seemed focused on just hitting stuff. Granted he's a very young Krogan and has much growing to do, but that's why Wrex has the edge.

I like both Ash and Miranda, but having to chose, would probably pick Ash (I feel that if she were in ME2 more, she would definitely be the richer character... her and Wrex were my favorite to get to know in ME1).

I LOVE Wrex and Grunt... Wrex is definitely the more interesting though, which is as it should be, since he is actually alive before the game starts...

Not a huge fan of Kaiden or Jacob... Kaiden always seemed a little boring and depressing. I thought Jacob would be awesome at first, especially given the early conversations with him (basically up until FP). After that, he seemed to hate everyone, which got on my nerves.

I hated Liara (seemed like she tried to inject herself in every situation, whether I asked her to or not), so I am glad we got new asari... Samara is definitely my favorite, I just love the idea of the justicar... plus the backstory there is great.

Ashley vs. Miranda - Miranda easily for me

Wrex vs. Grunt - Grunt is great, but Wrex is simply the best character in ME universe imho.

Kaidan vs. Jacob - both kinda meh guys, but I like Jacob better

Liara vs. Samara/Morinth - Liara and Samara equal, Morinth sucks

Hm...
Ashley = Miranda
Miranda WAS easier to talk to, but Ash had something to her that made for good relationship material.  I never really wanted a romance with Miranda

Wrex > Grunt
Oh, don't get me wrong, Grunt rocked (for one thing he *looked* cooler) but Wrex was just a a better thinker.

Samara > Liara
Liara really touched my heart in the first one, but because of that she REALLY pissed me off in the second one.  I still like her, but MILF-lady Samara rocks my world.  I really grew to appreciate her looks (plus, could she have had a nicer body?).

Kaidan > Jacob
Jacob was about as interesting as watching grass grow.  Kaidan wasn't exactly exilerating but still.  Plus, while Jacob had an awesome body, he wasn't very attractive (in MS2, in MSG he was actually pretty nice looking).

Miranda > Ashley. I don't love either, but there was something about Miranda that just fit her job at Cerberus. She was so cold. I felt like i was the trophy when we did it, not the other way around. Ash just annoys me. She reminds me of a cousin, with her racism/xenophobia and folksy attitude. I cringed when we met up in ME 2 and she was like "maybe cerberus was behind this". The only reason i picked her as a LI was because i hated Liara.

Wrex vs Grunt. It has to be Wrex. Only character from ME 1 that i truely liked (I liked Tali but she was kind of irrelevant to me, and i hated Garrus). Grunt is an awesome character too, and has his own appeal to himself. I might actually want him on my crew in ME 3 more than Wrex because he is still and evolving character.

Jacob vs. Kaidan. Both were the generic buddy starter characters. Jacob was kind of cool but also kind of pissy. Kaidan was a downer but he was nice. I can't remember one conversation we had. Push.

Samara vs. Liara. Samara no doubt. She looks like a super hero. I think she is the sexiest character in the ME universe. She was the one squadmate that all the other character had to respect. Even jack, and thats saying a lot. Liara seemed kind of flaky to me, and her cameo in the sequel just confirmed that. I wanted her as a LI because i wanted little asari babies by the third game but i just couldn't do it.

off topic a bit.. but i dont know why none of the original characters were really that important in the sequel.. so much better character development in the first ME.. besides Miranda, everyone was boring.

so Miranda> ashley

Wrex>Grunt

Kaiden>Jacob

Liara>Samara

I see little connecting Miranda and Ashley other than they're both strong female leads. There's absolutely nothing connecting Liara and Samara other than they're both asari. Jacob and Kaiden are similar only in that they're severely underdeveloped. Grunt and Wrex are only similar because all Krogan like to kill all the time.

Miranda - more personality.

Grunt - just got in touch with him better, Wrex was awesome as well.

Jacob - they are similar, but Jacob doesn't whine like Kaidan.

Liara - happens to be that I love her.

Haha, snap!  She totally does!  What with the headband, and the leather outfit?  Plus when you can make it all black?  TOTALLY AWESOME!  She spent the whole last mission with me.

Spoiler!

As far as Jacob goes: totally glad he was the one who ended up dead at the end of the game.  He was seriously the most boring character ever.

Spoiler over!

I'm surprised at all the Samara love.

She was lawful stupid paladin, end of characterization. Done.

I'd have spaced her if I could. Even Morinth was more reliable/safer. At least with Morinth you knew she wanted to kill and how to avoid it. With Samara you could never be sure if she'd decide you weren't 'honorable' enough five minutes after the mission was done and decide to gun you down.

I hate lawful stupid, and, as I said, I'm amazed so many people liked her.

Also her complexion was horrible with all the random spots and stuff, I don't even get how she was attractive other than the ****ty uniform that doesn't even make sense for her completely frigid character.

Grunt and Wrex are pretty close. I thought I'd hate Grunt, but his one dimensional characterization is actually made a plot point and his quotes are amazing. "But I don't see the point. Heh. Point."  Gotta give this to Wrex, though.  Only barely.

I really don't like Ashley OR Miranda, but one's in a catsuit, so.

And Jacob's boring and bland as ****, so Kaiden wins out there, no matter how amazing Jacob's abs may or may not be.

Miranda > Ashley - Ash is ok but I hate her now cause of her part in ME2. Miranda is cool.
Wrex > Grunt - Only because I think Wrex is awesome, Grunt is cool too
Jacob > Kaidan - Jacob is my favourite new squad member, Kaidan was always 'meh' too me
Samara > Liara - Again only because Liara in ME2 is lame

I swear I'm the only person on the planet who likes Jacob.

i thought the thread would be asking who would win in a fight, so i'll answer that, too. :D

Ashley vs. Miranda,

character: Miranda. She has a lot going on in her mind. Loyalties, motivations, self-esteem issues, etc. Ashley is just a soldier who doesn't really have a personality beyond that.

in a fight: Tough one. I'm tempted to say Miranda because of her biotics, but Ashley was bad-ass enough to survive alone on Eden Prime when her squad was wiped out. I'd say this is a toss-up.

Wrex vs. Grunt,

character: Wrex. Grunt is really cool, but Wrex is just a fantastic character. Funny, bad-ass, and a leader.

in a fight: Youth vs. Experience. While they both killed the thresher maw in their rites, I can guarantee Wrex didn't have a krandtt helping him the caliber of Shepard. However, Grunt is the perfect krogan. During ME2, I would give the edge to Wrex. But in a few years when Grunt has more experience, he will dominate.

Kaidan vs. Jacob

character: Kaidan. Both boring characters. A choice between either "Shepard, my L3 implants blah blah skip skip skip." or "Shepard, my family blah blah skip skip skip." I give the edge to Kaidan because every time I tried to talk to Jacob I felt like I was getting chewed out. I wanted to punch him every time he said "Already? I'm not big on forcing these talks."

in a fight: Jacob. Just a better soldier.

Liara vs. Samara

character: Liara. So many layers to her character.

in a fight: Samara. While Liara does have some good biotics and can handle herself, Samara has been fighting for nearly 1,000 years.

I think atm the ME2 Characters have an edge purely because their characters have been more hashed out than any of the crew was on the first game.

That being said I think this poll will do a major 180 when we get to actually see our old crew again come ME3 ... if you survive muahaha

for me though atm i'd have to say

Miranda > Ashley - Miranda's got the looks and is much easier to get past her problems Ashley's Xenophobia in the first one really got on my nerves.

Jacob > Kaidan - lets put it this way I have 4 different characters an old kaidan only managed to survive 1 of em... hes got about as much personality as a rock , only exception is if you play as a fem shep.

Wrex=Grunt - This one is definetly too hard to call Definetly like the badass ole Wrex but I also love the blood thirsty Grunt.

Liara > Samara - Samara is a unique character but has very little depth past her loyalty mission plus Liara's my Li.

Ashley>Miranda-No contest. The only things Miranda got over Ashley is biotics and a donk.

Jacob>Kaiden-I think Kaiden is underrated but Jacob's my dude.

Wrex>Grunt-Not really fair because Grunt's still a boy.

Samara>Liara-Really tough to call, but I'll give Samara the edge because of her back-story.

Wrex > Grunt by a huge amount

Miranda > Ashley Pretty close in the I dont care much for either one department

Kaiden > Jacob Not Jacobs fault really, they just keep forcing femShep on him and I could not stand him, for all I know he is all right, I just felt like vomiting every time femShep went in to auto drool mode on this untrustworthy Cerberus guy I just met yesterday

Liara > Samara Liara beats Samara in every way even if she was not my Shep's LI

Miranda > Ashley. Ash needs help dealing with the bigot thing. Then she'd win.

Wrex > Grunt. Wrex is just far more fun to listen to and is far more dangerous too.

Jacob > Carth... er... Kaiden. Sorry, can't get over the two characters having the same voice actor. Neither character Mr Sbarge voiced was particularly legend either. Jacob is just less annoying.

Liara > Samara. I like both of them, but Liara is the more developed character, and has the potential to become someone who is incredibly dangerous to know.

Miranda > Ashley -I liked Ashley but Miranda is probably the most physically attractive character in the ME universe. Like most of the ME2 squaddies there was also more character development with Miranda, and unlike Ash she never comes off as being xenophobic.

Wrex > Grunt - Probably the only ME1 character I'd pick over their ME2 counterpart. Grunt was an awesome character, but Wrex has the edge with his sense of humor and battle stories. I also loved Wrex's cameo in ME2. Anyone that killed him on Virmire is really missing out.

Jacob = Kaiden - These two I see as being pretty much equal. Jacob's character was a little more developed and interesting, but Kaiden was more approachable and felt like a trusted adviser. Jacob is a little more standoffish. (I'm not into forcing these talks, Commander.)

Samara > Liara > Morinth - Liara was my LI on my main paragon playthrough, but I prefer Samara. Like all of the ME2 squaddies Samara got more character development. She's also more mature and more attractive. As for Morinth, even on a renegade playthrough she'll never end up on my squad. She wants to murder Shepard.

Wrex over Grunt, simply because Grunt is... dunno... empty?

Jacob over Kaidan... i like Kaidans personality more, but something about his looks just rubs me the wrong way.

I am not going to pick Liara over Samara or the other way around. I want them both on my team.

And now the truely toughone.

Miranda is the most unsympathic character i have seen in a long time... but ashley... her i want to vent into space after talking to her for more than 5 seconds. Her xenophilia racisem stuff... that just rubs me to much in the wrong way that i even had a hard time getting me to romance her. Miranda on the other hand...  her i want to vent into space because ... because ... dunno... her high and mighty attitude just rubs me the wrong way.

But i would vent Miranda before i went Ash.. so i guess its Ash over Miranda.

I just wish they spoke at all (you know, outside of specifically talking to them).

And what's with all the Ashley hate?  What? Grunt's the posterboy for tolerance?
