Ashley, because she isn't a cerberus cheerleader.

Grunt and Wrex are tied in the awesome stakes.

Kaidan and Jacob are pretty tied, with Jacob maybe edging out over him. Both great characters though, despite peoples' dislike for Raphael S'barge.

Samara or Morinth over Liara any day. Liara annoyed me in the first game, though she had matured this time around

I liked Miranda over Ashely. Though I hated her at the beginning, (it almost felt like an 'alpha female' fight between her and my Fem Shep), I slowly begun warming up to her a bit before and a lot after the loyalty quest. I had her in my party most of the time, and got to know her attitude more. I didn't agree with her hanging onto to Cerberus' words half the time, but in the end, she won me over. For those who felt 'brotherly' with Jacob, I felt 'sisterly' with Miranda.

I love both Grunt and Wrex equally, but for different reasons. Wrex has wit and experience, but Grunt is going through his adolescence and you learn about him as he learns about himself. Then having them talk with each other was pure win.

Jacob is an interesting character, but I prefer Kaiden. They're both nice guys with morals that I mostly agree. I actually didn't feel that Kaiden was depressing at all. I found him to be pretty positive (in the first game) yet still realistic about the situations going on. He was also very comforting. I was always curious actually what would've happened if Kaiden was on board and he had a chance to talk to Jack. You know, both biotics with an intense background and all that (of course, Jack's went through a lot more, but I would've still liked his opinion on her).

Samara...I did like having a 'motherly' figure on the Normandy. Even if that mother was willing to do things that most wouldn't. I also liked her design.

ashley vs. miranda i go with miranda {way hotter}

grunt vs. wrex the toughest one to call on the list by far you've got one of the greatest krogan warriors in the fight vs. a krogan that was made from the greatest krogans of all time i'll go with grunt, although wrex was still cool

kaiden vs. jacob gotta go with my man jacob he is awesome, one of the coolest characters in the game, he was very nice but can be relentless if he needs to be

liara vs. samara i'll have to go with liara way cooler character, if you ask me samara had a boring background nothing interesting to learn about her at all

Ash > Miranda Ashley is a bit xenophobic but Miranda seems to come off as a b***h way

to often.

Wrex > Grunt Wrex is bada** and some of his lines are awesome

Jacob > Kaidan Kaidan is kinda a goody-goody but Jacob is willing to do what needs to be done.

Liara > Sam/Mor Sam is too high-and-mighty sometimes, Mor is too evil, Liara is cute and

devoted (compared to other love interests from ME1 she actually tries to help

you)

Well it depends if you mean which I like better, or which I think would kick the other ass.

Oh, if that's how we're doing it then:

Ash = Miranda
I see them taking each other out, honestly.  Ash is tough and skilled with weapons, but Miranda has Biotics and lethality to her personality.

Wrex>Grunt
Kaidan>Jacob
Samara>Liara
(I don't even count Morinth, who in there right mind willing lets a mass serial killer on their ship?)

Further, I find it ironic that the frigid Justicar 'no room for love in
my lonely life' character has the ridiculously low cut cleavage outfit,
while the succubi is wearing the equivalent of a space turtleneck.  Her
clothing/sexualization doesn't fit her character in the least, which is
part of what bothers me.  A reversal of outfits would have been more
fitting.

Obviously I'm in a minority here, though, so whatever.

As
to her characterization, if you went through her loyalty quest and
didn't make some sort of emotional connection in your case hate, the
failure is yours.

Before Loyalty quest: "I will kill anyone that gets between me and justice for justice.

During Loyalty quest: "I will especially kill -Spoiler- for justice"  "Damn that's harsh" "Murderin' evil is all I got."

After Loyalty quest: "I will still kill anyone that gets between me and justice."

She's
the classic lawful stupid paladin.  She marches in and kills things.
Adding -ANGST- doesn't make it better.  It didn't make Carth better,
it didn't make Morrigan better (though I actually kind of liked
Morrigan), it didn't make Jack better (made her worse, in my
opinion).  Angst is not equal to character complexity.  It can help an
audience connect emotionally with a character, but it doesn't make the
basic characterization any more complex.

Samara was still Lawful Stupid Paladin before, during, and after her mission.

1.  She was a Matriach, not a Matron (she says she's about 900 years old) and Morinth is a Matron (over 400 years old).
2.  I do find their clothing choices interesting, but having a low-cut outfit doesn't mean your looking for sex (though I fail to understand why you'd wear it otherwise).
3.  How is it stupid.  Really, you need to explain that a little more.  She's consistant, that's all I see.

And no religion. My maleShep will take Ash's love of Tennyson's 'Ulysses' into any future relationships, though.

Really?  I thought her believing in God made her A LOT more interesting.  How many video game characters believe in God?  Maybe it's because I believe in God.  *Shrugs* Who knows.  She mostly just came off as a symbol for Earthy characteristics.  She's a bit Xenophobic (not as much as OTHER characters though), she believes in God, she quotes old Earth poetry, she's a military person and she has a big family that she's really close to.

Am I the only one who thought Wrex WASN'T that interesting? He wasn't bad, but out of the original characters he and Garrus were the most boring to me. (Not saying they were bad, I just wasn't that interested.)  Garrus was more interesting in ME2.

Also, someone commented on Liara being a nice splash of light into the darker characters.  We could use more of that after the seriously dark ME2.

Ash over Miranda. Miranda's loyalty mission was great, but after you actually romance her she gets a bit les interesting...for me, at least. Ash was my LI in ME1, and I thought the Horizon scene was actually pretty good, along witht he email afterwords, saying that you arn't the person she loved before.

Jacob over Kaidan. As said a few times here, you get this brotherly feeling with Jacob, and he really felt like my right hand man. Kaidan was just...boring. He was too calm about everything and too idealistic on others.

Wrex over Grunt. Grunt was great in trying to find how to be a krogan, but Wrex is still #1 for me

Samara over Liara. I liked Liara in ME1 (as a freind) but in ME2 she's kinda just pushed to the side..I loved Samara though, with ehr justicar code and everything

I liked Jacob more, thought Kaidan was pretty boring, going on about "biotic" camp. Although Jacob really wasn't all that crazy great either.

Grunt was pretty cool, but I like that Wrex has experience, makes him seem like he could take down 5 Grunts by himself. Loved his sarcasm too.

Ashley over Miranda. I liked both of the characters but I think I'd have to stick with Ashley. Found myself missing her on the Normandy in ME2.

Samara is just bad ass

Lawful Stupid is the name of the character type/cliche.  Though she probably fits Knight Templar better.

Either way it's a character type that I find incredibly annoying, and was of the opinion before this thread that most other people also hated.

Miranda > Ashley - I dislike Ashley on a multitude of levels, mostly stemming from her incapability to think rationally, and fairly.

Wrex > Grunt - Wrex is probably my favorite character period, right up there with Garrus. He's certainly the smartest of all the characters you encounter, which isn't initially expected because of the nature of Krogan, but Wrex takes the cake as far as intelligence goes. And he's just plain awesome.

Jacob > Kaidain - Well, Kaiden always comes across as somewhat of a snob, self-important, and boring to me. He has no personality. Typical good guy with nothing going on between the ears. Jacob is unassuming and easygoing, which I appreciate, and he never sounds patronizing or condescending, which Kaidan occasionally does. That's a big pet peeve of mine.

Samara > Liara - I love Samara's design. Could do without the heeled shoes and her shirt cut to her naval, but her personality is great and her face design is by far my favorite of all the asari characters we've encountered thus far. I think she's just awesome. Liara is just...there. I feel nothing particularly negative towards her, nor do I really care whether she stays or goes.

When it became clear that the old characters of ME1 didn't come back I was very disappointed. When I played ME2 I was even more disappointed by their cameos and their unwillingness (obviously) to join my team. But this is a role playing game. So, I asked my self what Shepard would do when he wasn't trusted by Ashley/Kaidan, how Sheprad whould react to the uncool reaction of Liara and how Shepard would accept Wrex' new position. I think that from the ones the OP mentions I would welcome Wrex and the new crew, except Grunt. So, I have changed my mind on that. And that's because at least the new crew seem to trust me or give me the illusion that they are willing to follow me. The new crew members are now loyal to me, the old ones are not. Except Wrex, who at least gave me a warm welcome. But I couldn't care less about Grunt. He is a shallow character that I really don't need. He feels like a psychopathic time bomb. So, if they want to come back I expect the reverse. The old ones (except Wrex) have to prove that they are loyal to me. Otherwise I won't trust them. Of course BW may come with a forced storyline that I cannot circumvent, but as it stands now I don't want them back by default. ;)

Ashley vs. Miranda  -  Miranda.  She has more emotional baggage, and everyone knows the damaged ones are better.
Wrex  vs. Grunt  -  Grunt.  Wrex is an old man; Grunt is the new guy with tons of potential.
Kaidan vs. Jacob  -  I'm not qualified to make that call as i have yet to import my save where he lived
Liara vs. Samara/Morinth  -  Liara.  She went from innocent little lab rat to hardcore broad.

Ashley vs. Miranda - Miranda.

This was close for me, but Miranda's devotion for Cerberus annoyed me less than Ashley's competitiveness, and xenophobia. They were both good characters, but Miranda edged Ashley out.

Wrex vs. Grunt - Wrex.

Wrex is a great well developed character that I enjoyed having on missions. Grunt was okay, but he just did not stand out to me.

Kaidan vs. Jacob- Jacob

Jacob was a more professional soldier, and did not always question everything I did. Kaiden also seemed to get taken down a lot when I played ME1. Jacob did not let his personal issues color the majority of our conversations as well

Liara vs. Samara - Liara

This was another close one. Liara started out naive, but developed into a very capable and loyal person. Samara was more worldly (ironic word choice I know) but I always felt she kept everyone at a distance, and could possibly decide to kill me if she did not like what she saw. I have not done her loyalty mission yet, so this opinion might change.

Ashley; she never dies, Wrex; but they are both very good, Jacob; Kaidan is the worst squad member in the game, Samara; she is the strongest.
