I'm an Ashaholic, and I really don't like all this hate going on for her. It gives me solace though that you guys are pretty much sociopaths who'd kill someone because they rubbed you slightly the wrong way. I mean, really. "Kaidan bored me with his talks of Jump Zero so that's why I killed him on Virmire, haha. Sorry Kaidan." Is it somehow supposed to be funny that you're glad a character who doesn't rub your ego-boner can be killed off?
Ashley vs. Miranda, Wrex vs. Grunt, Kaidan vs. Jacob, Liara vs. Samara/Morinth

I personally prefer Miranda over Ashley. Through Miranda's quest, we see how far she is willing to go for her sister. Ashley pretty much just tells us. I don't doubt it, but I just haven't seen it. That and Miranda is a biotic. Better fighting style because she compliments Shepard no matter the class. I get the impression that Ash is slightly more prejudice against aliens than Miranda is. She just works for a prejudice organization because she wanted to protect her sister.
Easily Wrex over Grunt. Grunt doesn't have the lifetime of experience that Wrex has, so he's all for going into the fights without really thinking about it. Wrex can think more long-term and still won't back down from a fight. He arranged Urdnot Clan to be able to handle the Krogan with a long-term plan after all. Grunt doesn't have the experience to make these kind of decisions. That and I love Wrex's wit.
Liara over Samara. I figure that having spent most of her time alone at Prothean dig sites, she is just more than a little uncomfortable dealing with others. But in ME2, she shows she has gained a lot more of a spine. She isn't afraid to fight and get her hands dirty. I'm relying a lot on Lair of the Shadow Broker for that argument. And she does manage to get Shepard to open up about what he really thinks of the mission to stop the collectors. Assuming you talk to her after killing the Shadow Broker.
Kaidan and Jacob are even. Just the good guys of the team.

Hey, who's raised this thread from the dead?
Miranda > Ashley
I like Ashley, but a straight soldier girl with strong family ties, some issues with nonhumans and religious tendencies cannot compete with a morally ambiguous superspy with enhanced cognitive abilities and longevity who has yet to come to terms with her own existence. Ashley I like....but Miranda is in how own category of "like".
Wrex > Grunt
A krogan puppy cannot compete with a character they successfully portrayed as intelligent, even wise, without sacrificing the krogan mindset for it. Wrex is a masterpiece in character creation, and for that I like him, even though I dont actually like him because well, I don't like the krogan mindset.

It's a little racist arguing that they have to be comperable to each other because they are of the same race but whatever....
Ashley over Miranda.
I wuv my Ashley and prolonged exposure to Miranda makes me want to mutilate myself.
Jacob over Kaidan
I liked Kaidan but we lost him on Virmire. Besides I feel sorry for Jacob.
Wrex over Grunt
Only barely, Wrex wins for nostalgia value but it's pretty close.
Samara over Liara
Samara is sexy and awesome.
