Hi guys, I would like to know if there is anyway of knowing/finding out if my mass effect 2 DLC has been installed, authorised and recognised by the game without having to go through the beginning of the game only to find out it isn't available for some reason. So is there such a way?

(I have checked teh DLC folder in the mass effect 2 folder so I know it is installed on the HDD at least, but I am still getting the new content available option and I saw nothing indicating the DLC was authorised when I finally got connected to cerberus network, only got initial message tht it couldnt be authorised becasue i couldnt connect straightaway.)

Also if it turns out not to be recognised is there any way of unistalling the DLC without uninstalling the whole game?

Thanks.

Login to your Cerberus Network/Bioware account in-game once... it'll authenticate the DLCs and the nagging message will be gone.

I dunno if you can uninstall them, but I dont see why you would want to/need to.

If it is on the HDD, then it is likely they are good to go. The DLC can be added in at any time, so starting the game has no loss. You cant use them at the very beginning anyway.

ah ok, one more question then, will i get a message authenticating the DLC or will be like Dragon Age (if i remember correctly) and just not say anything?

I've been wondering if there's a way to make that "New Content Available" menu item go away, too. For me, it's just always there. I've downloaded everything available to me (minus the new stuff from today, which I haven't seen show up on the list yet), but it's been there since I first installed ME2, and never goes away.

No, there is no authentication message, Although I believe there is a authentication fail message if you try to load a save game with DLC your not registered to have.

Not necessarily. I get the 'New Content Available' message constatnly, and I'm always logged in.

Zippie: there's no message.

IMTrick: the new DLC won't be available until noon Mountain Time, which is two hours from the time of this posting.

OK great thanks a lot. By the way I read somewhere some talking about checking DLC in the DLC menu under extras (a little like first ME) but I have no such option, I'm guessing that's because its through Cerberus network now right?

Yeah, that's not an option in ME2. As far as I know the only way to know for sure that you have the DLC in game is to play it to the point where the DLC is supposed to show up. As you noted, you can see if it's installed in your game folder on your HDD, but I actually had it show up there but not in-game. Had to reinstall to get it to work - and the only way I could find out for certain after the reinstall was to play.

You'd think they'd have carried that over wouldn't you? So you had to reinstall the whole game?

Yep. Uninstalled it completely. Then reinstalled, immediately added the DLC to it and fired it up. Worked a charm after that.

OK thanks very much, appreciate the help. Will keep that in mind if it doesn't work first time when I try later on.

yes this is so.. it autheticates your dlc through cerebrus when u launch the game and login to cerebrus...although it tells u it failed before u have a chance to load any save games... also if u remove the folder of the dlc that is not registred to u the error goes away as obviously it cant check for something that isnt there... u can simply remove the folder from your dlc folder if it causes a problem.. it is located.. in

masseffect2\\biogame\\DLC

ALSO if u have steam it will be in...

programfiles\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\masseffect2\\biogame\\DLC

the folders are labeled easily enough to distinguish.. (one for each dlc ) and if u remove one it removes it without reinstalling the game... simple and way less time...

also to note on the paths for some reason the forum adds extra slashes.. unsure why but there should only be one slash in between the folders.. as more than one it will not be proper path.. since a slash denotates a new folder.. and \\ is not allowed in a filename/foldername

My question is.... did we not take several steps back between the DAO DLC manager and ME2 which has none on the PC?  I found the DAO DLC manager very nice and much easier to know what was installed, active, and manage them.  When they released the new Cerberus armor and shotgun, I had to manually go to the "entitlements" page, scroll through the list of all XBox360 and PC content (I only have PC edition) look the list up and down on the before I noticed the one I was looking for.  Why do we not have a nice clean interface like DAO has for DLC?

And the "new content available" always being up is rather annoying as well.  If we had a good DLC manager (or even ability to manage in-game) it would be a snap to see when something new was released.

Yeah, the whole thing does seem pretty pointless to me.  It doesn't tell you when there's new stuff, doesn't actually download anything, and you have to close the game to install the stuff on the page the only working button sends you to.

What's the point in having an (almost) in-game download method if you have to exit the game to install anything?

I can only hope there's similar functionality on the consoles that actually does something useful, otherwise it seems like a waste of development time to me.

Both were indeed done by Bioware and published by EA.
