After reading this article on Kotaku about EA saying all major releases in 2011 will have online play and DLC,
I am getting very concerned that ME will be sacrificed to the MP Gods. Image IPB

Could someone at Bioware confirm or deny this ?

Online play in the form of co-op is always welcome in my opinion. However, having seen how neverending PvP balancing can ruin a game, I do hope it will be co-op at most.

I can just imagine it already. Tech Armor will be removed because adepts start crying about how they don't have it, and soldiers will be crying about how all they got in the most recent patch was a new icon. Doesn't take a genius to spot the reference here :)

I hope not, cause that usually means the main story and plot suffer. I would prefer that Bioware focus on taking the story and character interactions up a level in ME3 as they did in ME2.

There are plenty of multiplayer shooters out there, but it wouldnt add anything to the ME universe.

Unless Mass Effect 3 is an MMO, then my gut feeling points to no.

Multiplayer is a good idea, but ì they have to product a stand alone game multiplayer based on the universe of mass effect after the 3rd game of the series

I don't see why it would. Mass Effect sells enough without having to rely on Multiplayer, and its strength has always been in its single-player campaign. I've got nothing against MP--Left 4 Dead is not nearly as fun alone, and Gearbox's take on it via Borderlands is a stroke of genius--but it doesn't seem right with the ME games we've been playing.

If Bioware decides to go MP, I'd rather see them do it through a Mass Effect-themed MMO, but I've said as much before on the forums.

They would lose fans lol?

Guys Mass Effect is being mainstreamed, forget what Chris and Stan are saying. If they feel they can get a couple thousand more sales in multiplayer I would bet on Bioware doing it.

This is what the games market is, look at Bioshock 2. Principles and standards are just there to be bought and sold.

It would be great, I'd love to join up with my friends and help them through Mass Effect 1 & 2 so if ME3 would have it, it would be a blast.

That is of course if the story doesn't suffer because of it. Everything comes with a cost, but don't cut on the main course of Bioware games. In that case, the whole multiplayer thing should just be dropped entirely.

Hemm... I'm sorry but isn't Bioshock 2 a great game anyway? One that last for much longer than just one or two playthroughs at the most until it goes back to the shelf like the first game?

Working under the assumption that ME3 is one of the 2011 titles, if it slipped into early 2012 people would have nothing to worry about.

However, the quote in the article can be easily misinterpreted (it doesn't help that, from my viewpoint, Schappert didn't word it right). My interpretation is that all 2011 titles will have some sort of online component, either DLC, online multiplayer or both.

"every one of EA's releases will have an online component—both downloadable content and online play."

He says "an" in the first part, implying that these games could have a singular online component. He then says "both" which makes the quote confusing.

I'm going to go with he meant that every title will have one or both of those online components.

That's the thing: he said "both" and not "either". Besides, an online component can include a lot of things like DLC, multiplayer, leaderboards, news, etc. and it's still just an online component in a given game.

No necessarily. He could have been clarifying what he meant by what the choices were regarding an "online component."

Why not just say "Every one of EA's releases will have both downloadable content and online play."? It doesn't make sense to clarify it twice in the same sentence.

Honestly, Kotaku needs to get some more information from EA regarding exactly what the statement means before people jump to the concusion that ME3 will have online play.

If EA tries to ram multiplayer into ME3, I will set fire to... something.

All I can say is, if it does happen, I hope no one from Bioware taken off working on the single-player experience to focus on the multiplayer.
Instead, farm it out to a third party and make it download only as to not take up valuable disk space that would be better filled with single-player content.

anythings possble but any multiplayer would be nothin like the game unless they took me3 to the first person shooter universe
