Sniper rifles are really useless for the adept unless it's for the actual boss missions. :(

I've found that out way too late - I was much more effective and more efficient with my biotic powers than with the sniper rifle.

Makes sense though - adepts are best at medium range so the sniper rifle is much less useful there.

I don't agree with this at all - but I think it's a matter of opinion/style rather than a plain fact.

The viper is my main weapon.  I think of it as a hand cannon with a scope.  I tend to think Adepts on insanity are at their best at the long end of their biotic ranges too.  I also just generally prefer weapons that aim as opposed to weapons that spray but that's simply a preference and not a claim that they are intrinsically superior.  If you like to, and are good at, quick aiming - a fully upgraded viper with the 10% headshot upgrade visor plus warp/Tungsten ammo is very deadly with biotics for the whole game, not just bosses.

Well adepting on insanity is not as tough as I thought it would be, warp ftw! Only hard place was horizont (partly due to bad skill distribution and not the best squad choices). Collector ship and praetorian was pretty easy, just run in circles and warp the crap out of it. The main thing you have to remember is to be pacient and always wait for your shield to recharge before aiming/leaving cover :D

I was kind disappointed about instanity difficulty in general though, was hoping for smarter AI not just more enemies with more hitpoints and/or bigger damage.

Arde5643:

I played Adept two ways - one with Sniper Rifle and one with AR. Inspite of the fact that I went with AR, Sniper rifles are deadly tools in the hands of an Adept at the higher difficulty levels. This because nothing strips defenses more certainly at the ranges you like to operate in than a Viper. Scope in, strip one enemy of defense, apply Unstable Warp Explosion to strip defenses en masse. Then proceed to own face. All their bases are belong to you.

I decided to go with Snipers on my playthrough. I really enjoy smg and the pistol is great against armored foes. Its very accurate at close to medium range and if your good at aiming its somewhat good at long range as well. I chose the ar and I found myself always wanting to go back to the smg and really only used the vindicator ar for medium to long engagements to which I was really longing for the sniper because of its scope and high damage output.

Also to St. Average Gatsby I really enjoyed your videos a lot and they really helped me refine my skills with the adept. Now I enjoy playing adept a lot and love doing biotic combos in fights. I love using sing with a little smg fire to strip defenses just so I can hit the enemy with a warp bomb. Its awesome. I love being able to position my allies and setting up combos. Its just so much fun. But to ur new post about which class to do next. I would really enjoy seeing what you can do with the engineer class. I am having trouble with this class because my playstyle is just so used and suited to playing as an adept. So I would like to see what sort of advice and playstyle you come up with.

I bet I'm going to have "grass is greener on the other side" with the Advanced Weapons Training, which is great, because that's how it should be.

The Viper really helps when you're fighting more isolated enemies, or if you're good enough to get off a quick shot without getting shot yourself. Usually though, I find it difficult to use the Sniper because of how accurate enemies are.

By Request:

The Blue Suns N7 Mission YMIR Fight is now up. And I found a little special spot, just like in garrus' mission.

Blue Suns N7 YMIR Fight

It's actually been up since last night but I just uploaded to Youtube and went to bed. Anyway, enjoy!

Also, I'm closing my Engineer VS Sentinel Guide Poll TONIGHT at 11.59pm Pacific (Olympics) time. Since it takes a few hours for votes to be updated, expect me to have the final results by tomorrow morning.

Vote in the poll here: What Guide do you want to see next?

How that Bioware have confirmed that the damage bonus for Warp Ammo is doubled against targets affected by Biotics does Warp Ammo suddenly become the bonus talent of choice? Singularity suddenly becomes even more powerful.

I'd say its the choiciest bonus talent for end game, but Energy Drain has more utility for the adept early on for dealing with those geth/mercs. Also you have to take into account that warp ammo is only doing that kind of damage against an enemy who is already trapped up in your singularity and not before, so that means it is also susceptible to the warp nuke.

Also since I try not to use the bonus talent too much, I'm not really going to be using this combo.

Why not shoot an enemy AND throw a Warp at him?

Is there any reason, as an Adept, to take Reave? Heavy Reave can do a little more damage to single targets than Heavy Warp (granted, no innate AOE like Warp), and there's the lifesteal/hp bonus aspect of it, and the stun when the target has no protection.
I'm sure the general consensus is "Why take Reave when Warp fills the role?" but that's exactly the question I pose. I think it's a nice skill, but I suppose its main purpose is to help other classes have a decent way of stripping off armor and barriers.

Just been thinking. Many Adepts wear Blood Dragon Armour and max their passive (Nemesis) to get maximum power damage bonus (30)%.

Warp ammo would at 50% base (self version) and be increased by 30% to 65% weapon damage. Then doubled it would be 130% weapon damage.

Reave is useless on an adept since it doesnt nuke in combination w/ singularity/pull.

I was thinking of trying insanity with a fresh ME1 import....

is it possible or should I wait to try it NG+?

NG + insanity is actually harder than starting over from a new game. Here's the order of difficulty
Insane: Mass Effect 1 Import Shepard
Insaner: Brand New Shepard Insanity
Insanest: NG+ Insanity

Because you get bonus money from your me1 char as well as the long service bonus, and because you start at a slightly higher level, you have access to more skills in the beginning, yet the enemies aren't nearly high enough for you to require upgrades. A brand new character starts with fewer skills so mordin's mission can be ridiculous with some classes. A NG+ insanity character starts with all the skills, but since the enemies are at the same level as shepard, he's actually sometimes weaker than if the game had been started fresh because she/he doesn't have access to any upgrades, which are your real power late game.

I always found it unattractive to create a whole new shep in ME2 because the given ME1 past is rather poor (wrex dead, udina in council etc.. Gibbeds save game editor solves the problem but then its always tempting to give yourself x paragade points plus a gazillion credits and resources :o

That's my bread and butter insanity tactic and I think it's one of the most efficient ways to move through levels as an Adept.  I've posted this before but:  A singularity - instantly followed by a series of viper headshots (warp ammo) just into the health bar (target will begin to rise) - throw a warp before you even let go of the scope button.  From full health to dead (or almost dead) in a couple of seconds.  If you are on platform level use heavy throw instead of warp to throw them off the map.  On the Grunt recruiting level (for example) you can mow the Krogans down and throw them off the level in in a few seconds a piece.

I just finished my second insanity play through using the Adept (first time through was Infiltrator).

I personally preferred playing the Adept.

The hardest part for me was the Geth Colossus, not because I was getting overwhelmed by the geth numbers but because I intentionally made the area more difficult for myself.

I was playing as a Renegade so I allowed Reegar to take potshots atthe Colossus. I set myself the challenge of getting to the Colossus before it killed Reegar, without heavy weapons.

That was really tough. So much so that I actually restarted the mission to try a different squad composition. The sense of accomplishment once I succeeded though...incredible, that is what its really all about.

The rest was easy by comparison. Derelict Reaper was a total joke, I actually did a double check to make sure the game was really on Insanity, I remember that being challenging with an infiltrator.

I reckon I`ll do an Engineer next.

Thanks for this video guide Gatsby. You and a few other guys (Sinosleep, Thisisme8, a few others) have raised the intellectual level of the community almost by yourselves. Big respect.

Average Gatsby:

Thanks to your vid I managed to get through the collector ship platforms on my first try. Insanity, of course. Took 4.5 minutes and seemed a helluva a lot easier than I expected it to be.

I did manage to die in the encounter right before the area with the Praetorian since I managed to let myself get flanked by an assassin, but no problems aside from that.

Thanks for all of your vids.

edit - And you're absolutely right about a team of biotics being the best. I take Miranda, Samara/Thane with me as much as possible, and this team crushes almost anything. Samara's pull is fantastic for setting up double warp explosions using Thane/Miranda's warp when I have my own singularity/warp combo at the same time. So many flying bodies.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I really don't.

I'm playing through Insanity on a Vanguard and it's an absolute breeze. I only die when I accidentally hop over cover instead of behind it or get "cover stuck" while sprinting.

But when I hop on my Insanity playthrough with my Adept, I die... A lot. I'm talking dying 5-10 times anytime there's a special enemy (Big mech, Colossus, etc.). It's bugging me.

I'm just getting whooped. It's quite possible that it's just counter to my playstyle, but I like the class and want to get good.

What's the strategy? Warp, warp, warp, Sing + Warp? Should I use Singularity even before their defenses are down to get them to stumble? Should I move in close so my pistol shots are more accurate or stay at distance? Should I send my people in close or keep them back?

It's killing me!

Or singularity and pull?

On casual it almost doesn't matter.

Heavy Warp, Wide Singularity, Area Pull, Biotic Mastery (Nemesis), Heavy Throw?

great guide tnx.

now a little off topic, ME2 adept is so nerfed compared with ME1, I think it makes no sense biotics doesn't afect armor. I really hope they change that for next ME or even in a patch would be cool, coz Im not a team guy, so I cant have much fun playing as adept ( was my favorite class on ME1 ). the game strategy should be : Tech good agains shields, and Biotics good armor. Do you guys think the same as me?...

now a related question, biotic barrier (I dont know if thats the name) is the best extra talent for adept?
