I've performed the MS fix and was able to run the installer. After I try to open the toolset I get an error message.

"Unable To Connect to the database. Run the Toolset configuration and verify" etc etc

I had a pre-existing SQL 2005 installation. When I setup the connection and test it I am successfully able to connect to the database.

For people getting the Create Database error after doing the fix, check your log files at

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\tools\\toolssql\\MSSQL.1\\MSSQL\\LOG

And look for a line like this one:

2009-11-06 15:24:10.78 spid51 Cannot create file 'c:\\program files (x86)\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\tools\\toolssql\\MSSQL.1\\MSSQL\\DATA\\temp_MS_AgentSigningCertificate_database.mdf' because it already exists. Change the file path or the file name, and retry the operation.

I had to delete temp_MS_AgentSigningCertificate_database.mdf & temp_MS_AgentSigningCertificate_database_log.LDF manually after which the install was able to proceed.

After a complete uninstall and reinstall, with the MS fix, the problem is resolved. Thanks, everyone!

Not letting me delete the files mid-install, or to save the changes I made following the microsoft instructions. I'm assuming that's my OS (Vista), so I'm trying to find a workaround to *that*. Anyone know how?

Got the toolset working using this, but is anyone getting an unable to load module message when attempting to start a new game now?

Or change areas in existing saves.

Barring any new development, I think I will wait for my CE edition to arrive on monday and install it. It should be easier than this (yeah, 2 copies, I know I'm not the only one)

I also have a quick fix, just install the MSQL server from C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\tools\\sqlexpr then reinstall the Toolset, when it asks you to set up the SQL server, select Custom Settings, this should configure your already installed SQL server to the way the toolset wants it.

Mmmm, I think I'll hold off on my enthusiasm for the editor for a few more days. I'm hoping the Bioware guys will get in touch with steam/microsoft and get a seperate installer- with the go-arounds I'll have to do to make this fix work I'm not going to go for it. Hopefully you guys will have a seperate, Steam enabled toolset download soon for us customers from there. Until then, I'll keep plowing through the campaign.

Awesome, thanks for the help.  This helped me and allowed the installation to go through once I hit the retry button.

Yep, it did work just as posted above.

For the lazy:

open file \\\\\\\\Steam\\\\\\\\steamapps\\\\\\\\common\\\\\\\\dragon age origins\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\toolssql\\\\\\\\MSSQL.1\\\\\\\\MSSQL\\\\\\\\Install\\\\\\\\Sysdbupg.sql

Find:
SELECT @certificate_name = QUOTENAME(@certificate_name, '''')
Replace With:
SELECT @certificate_name = '''' + REPLACE(@certificate_name, '''', '''''') + ''''
Re-install toolkit

I can confirm that this worked for me - thanks Wannabeuk!

Vista 64bit, in case it matters. When I got the error message from the sql installer, given the options 'retry' or ''cancel', I opened notepad as administrator and edited the file as required, then hit 'retry'. Toolset installed and launches without any issues. Now to try it out!

Maybe run the editor as admin, then open the file and edit. That's what I did with Vim.

I'm running into an issue where the installer just hangs at 100% with an "Execute: regsvr32.exe blablabla". I can't even close the window or anything, it's just stuck there.

Is this related to the whole MSSQL thing? Or something completely different?

I don't have steam. Impulse instead. I got the same error.

The fix worked for me by going here:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Dragon Age Origins\\tools\\toolssql\\MSSQL.1\\MSSQL\\Data

This fix worked for me as well. For like 30 seconds.

After the toolset was finally installed, it refused to launch due to the known "Unable to connect to database" bug. Apparently, I'm missing files in my "Data" folder.

Problem is, the known solution does not work for me as it requires the file bw_dragonage_content.bak which I don't have anywhere on my HD (yes, I searched). Perhaps it's a Steam thing.

BioWare?

Alright, so apparently, the "regsvr32.exe" is another bug. Fine. "Worked around" it (killed regsvr32.exe).

It installs the MSSQL, yet has a bunch of errors, which ends up with it just shutting down the SQL install, I'm left with C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\tools\\toolssql being blank; there's no MSSQL folder in there to go and edit.

I guess I should just wait until BioWare comes out with a working version at this point, since I apparently have 2-3 different issues.

Ya man for real, gotta be a comp expert to get it to work, aint worth it IMO. Loving the game. But Biowares release of a working toolset with the the game is an epic fail.

true, when we were told that we would have access to the tools of the devs, I never imagined that it would mean sharing bugs with the devs.

FIXED! Do what is says there
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935371
the file sysdbupg.sql is located at C:\\\\\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\\\\\Steam\\\\\\\\steamapps\\\\\\\\common\\\\\\\\dragon age origins\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\toolssql\\\\\\\\MSSQL.1\\\\\\\\MSSQL\\\\\\\\Install

If you still run into problems, Delete temp_MS_AgentSigningCertificate_database.MDF and LDF from C:\\\\\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\\\\\Steam\\\\\\\\steamapps\\\\\\\\common\\\\\\\\dragon age origins\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\toolssql\\\\\\\\MSSQL.1\\\\\\\\MSSQL\\\\\\\\Data

I hit cancel the first time and let it complete the toolset install then tried to reinstall may be why I have these files above.

Yes i have the steam version and the toolset is working for me after i did the above fix

This, and then the "for the lazy" post below it, got it workin for me.  Thanks a ton.
