i too am getting the same exact error issues as Ag0Ag0, were the files arent copied properly...
the files that are supposed to be in, heck the entire folder MSSQL.1 is being installed in two different areas....

the first of these is
C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Microsoft SQL server\\\\MSSQL.1\\\\MSSQL
second area
*Drive:\\\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\\\SteamApps\\\\common\\\\dragon age origins\\\\tools\\\\sqlexpr\\\\setup\\\\program files\\\\microsoft sql server\\\\x86

why its doing this i have no idea, it could be becouse i have two drives but somehow i dont think thats it....

anyone with blinding insights into why this is happening i would appriciate, until then ill see if moving the folders and files manualy to were there 'supposed' to be works....

no good moving the files, and/or editing them....so that idea is shot to hell....

Is this issue related to all digital download companies or just Steamy?

You have to catch it mid install to do this fix. When the error comes up during install, don't hit cancel or retry, just leave it. Go make the appropriate fix based on the error that is showing, and after you have done that, hit the retry button.

Is there going to be any other help besides the option to manually edit the SQL files mid-install? I'm let down by this, it's been a day and still no software fix for those of us with vista who cannot edit those files mid-installation.

Why not release the toolset through Steam as well? There already is a "Tools" tab for this purpose.

I got the following error during installation. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

Error opening file for writing:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\BioWare\\Uninstall Dragon Age Toolset.exe

I got that too with Win 7 64 bit! Same error with the game patch. I just ignored..... It will only affect uninstalling. (I hope)

For some of us, there is not uninstaller in that folder.

Installing SQL separately before installing the tool set fixed the error without having to edit any files, didn't even uninstall the failed install. Just ran the "dragon age origins\\tools\\sqlexpr\\setup.exe", then run the Tool set installer, deselect the 'Install SQL server' box, but leave the rest default.

I'm lost, the fix only lead me to another error : [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near 're' . I don't understand any of this and I hope that I won't need to reinstall windows when a better version of the toolset comes out.

So I finally got all the SQL errors away from installation to get this error...

Location of game build either not specified or the update program was never run to copy the build onto your computer.

Anyone else get this? Any fixes out there?

DON'T DO IT!

Installing the toolset seems to break some of the scripts in-game, by overriding the Single Player campaign with one that doesn't work correctly.

If you want to actually play the game, then DON'T INSTALL the toolset until they play this. Consider yourself warned!

FIXED! Do what is says there
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935371
the file sysdbupg.sql is located at C:\\\\\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\\\\\Steam\\\\\\\\steamapps\\\\\\\\common\\\\\\\\dragon age origins\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\toolssql\\\\\\\\MSSQL.1\\\\\\\\MSSQL\\\\\\\\Install

If you still run into problems, Delete temp_MS_AgentSigningCertificate_database.MDF and LDF from C:\\\\\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\\\\\Steam\\\\\\\\steamapps\\\\\\\\common\\\\\\\\dragon age origins\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\toolssql\\\\\\\\MSSQL.1\\\\\\\\MSSQL\\\\\\\\Data

I hit cancel the first time and let it complete the toolset install then tried to reinstall may be why I have these files above.

Yes i have the steam version and the toolset is working for me after i did the above fix

This fix works like a charm! Thanks for pointing it out!

I applied the filepath-too-long fix during the initial install (thanks, everyone, for the solution!), hit Retry, and the installation continued successfully.  However, at the very end, I got a popup error saying that it could not open the file "Uninstall Dragon Age Toolset.exe" in C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Common Files\\\\Bioware for writing.  Upon examination, I found that there was no Bioware folder in my Common Files directory.

I manually created a Bioware folder in C:\\Program Files\\Common Files, and was able to successfully complete the installation.  Not sure why it had difficulty creating that directory; is anyone else encountering this problem?  Running Windows XP SP3, for what it's worth.

[EDIT:  Greatly simplified the steps.  Had originally tried
creating a blank text document in the specified directory and renaming
it "Uninstall Dragon Age Toolset.exe; this worked, but was not
necessary.]

Anyone can confirm this and explain what scripts break? I don't want to risk not being able to complete the campaign.
