I accidently pressed X while talking to EDI in front of the human reaper, and I did not really understand why only humans are used to build the machine.

Your guess is as good as anyone's, tbh. It's either not explained very well, or to be explained in a later game. Unless I also missed something?

Humans have a genetic diversity not found in many species. Mordin comments that this makes humans great as test subjects. I'm sure messing with Sovereign also bumps us to the top of the list. (before anyone comments on how it was the entire citadel fleet, Sovereign's kenetic barriers were blocking everything before Shep defeated possesed Saren, weakening Sovereign)

The jist is that The Reapers are made out of a race that they are eliminating...or at least that's how I interpreted it.

I just read on the mass effect wikia that the Harbinger is a reaper?? when is that being said? i thought that the Harbinger was the leader of the collectors..

Some stuff did not got explained properly, or is it just me?

It's hinted throughout the game, especially by harbinger, that humans are stronger genetically than any other species, proven by Shepard's destruction of Sovereign. That's why I presumed they took them, but I'm sure there's much more to it that has yet to be explained.

The collector general, like endgame Saren, was possesed by their reaper contact.  Thus at the end of the game the speech about having failed and they will find another way is the reaper talking to the collector general.

Regarding Harbinger, it was shown at the end that he was a reaper and he was controlling the collector general all along (he releases his control on the general just before he is killed). You see him as a hologram, and then right in the final scene at the front of the reaper fleet.

Harbinger is the reaper that is in direct control of the Collector General. It can act as it wishes, but now and then is taken over by Harbinger and overall takes it's orders from it.



Humans are the only species deemed worthy of ascension by the Reapers. When fighting a collector that has been taken over, if you listen carefully and have the correct squad mates it will point out the flaws in each.



More than likely humanities diverse genetic make up and the fact that Shepard killed a reaper plays a big role in their selection.
