I put in my attributes, and hit next, and it shows a nice page of skills. With 1 or 2 highlighted depending on the class I've chosen..

However, none of the remaning skills are clickable.. I.e. I can't select anything on that page (or the mage spells page).

I also can't login, (the login button in the login dialog never highlights/becomes clickable)..

This must be some sort of bug.

Default install paths, windows vista 32, application asked and was approved to go through firewall.

Not sure, I've wondered myself but I think they are allocated based on your background and you don't seem to be able to change them. Not sure if this will change in the actual game, maybe Bioware can tell us.

They are locked in order to assist us. It's unfortunate but that's how it is.

So is this to stop us from making bad first level characters that don't really work then? Or to fit with the Origin stories and skills needed for them?

I think they are not allowing us the skill/talent functionality in the CC tool. Alternatively, this could mean that, at level 1, you get what you are given, and you actually can't select any new skills/talents until you complete level 1, ie. at level 2. I have yet to see an official confirmation about what we can expect when the game goes live.

Kinda both.  You still get to select two talent points and a skill point at creation (with the full game), but they gave you abilities you'll need to fit your origin.  Human noble starts with sword/shield so they give you shield bash, apparently the dwarf commoner needs to steal, dalish characters have a talent in bows for their origin, etc.

Technically it gives an "advantage" to players who continue following that path, but you still do get to allocate your talent points however you want.  They're bonus.

Your confirmation:

The character creator lets you create a face and assign attribute points, as well as letting you see which skills and talents come with each origin/class combination. When you import the character into the game you finish character creation.

You are granted one skill based on your class, one skill based on your origin (as seen in the character creator), and can assign one skill point however you choose.

You are granted one talent based on your origin (as seen in the character creator) and can assign two talent points however you choose.

can any of the tester answer a question for me. how does the "combat tactic" skill work. I read the description but it doesn't really say what the tactics slots are for. has anyone seen anything on this.

thanks.
