There was a thread about it in the old ME forums... Patrick Weekes did not like it

It's funny in that "It's kind of true" way.

I agree for most examples. Although, living your life in Candlekeep is not really humble. As a matter of fact, gaining entrance to the keep for a day or so costs very, very, VERY much. 20 years... are quite a long stay.
Still, even if they are similar, or partially similar, the stories are completely twisting and unique.

Only in so far... For example, in the BG games you never really have to set foot into Beregost...Godak wrote...

Edit: After reading DLs contribution, I was tempted to list all errors I could find. But then it wouldn't be examples anymore.

Well, you gotta remember, they're all huge generalizations. As soon as you take more than a passing glance, you'll see that they're all they're own unique experience.

I don't know. I think it was humble enough. Maybe not as much as a peasant in some random village, but still... Charname had to do chores and study, and didn't exactly live in opulence. The only reason Gorion got to keep her/him at Candlekeep was because he had one of the most powerful Faerûnian organizations supporting him.
As for this chart, I caught it a few weeks back. They are definitely sweeping generalizations. It's funny though, and there is a grain of truth to it.

Now that I looked at the chart, there are a few similarities. It's kinda funny.

Cliches are good sometimes. A small apsrk of familiarity can make it easier to get into a game.
Just as long as the opening act doesn't play out like Chapter 1 of the Totally Unoriginal Guide to RPG Hero Motivation (Extra Generic Edition) it's all good.
