I actually saw a poll a little while ago, asking if Tali should be a romance option for FemShep, and the vote when I saw it (maybe an hour or so ago) was 86-39 in favor. I think whether you look at that poll, or the length of this thread/the last thread, all the evidence is this is a VERY popular topic, that has very broad support. I think all the actual evidence points to the fact that we are not, in fact, a 'small group', but rather those who are opposed to us are the small group.

You have to remember

a) most straight guys think lesbians are cool
and
B) its only really the gays, lesbians and supporters that are voting on these polls.

If you summed the whole ME playerbase if they wanted to see M Shepard have a gay romance I imagine it would poll less than 5% of the vote.  I expect more people would rather see Tali given a lightsaber than this.

You are a small group.  It just doesnt seem so when you all get together.  Not getting at you but it is the truth, thats why you are called a minority.

you have to remeber
a) stereotypes are incorrect
B) you have absoluty zero information that could that could give you any possible statistic on a poll vote

Well considering only between 2%-9% of people in the whole world are gay, we can guess at roughly 1-2% of gamers are gay.  Then gamers who play Mass Effect?  perhaps 1%, 0.5% of the total playerbase?  Then add the straight people who would support same sex romance and play through it., which i would imagine is larger than the gay playerbase.. and I'd say 5% of the total playerbase is about right.   Being generous.

I'm terribly sorry, but the ignorance you display is rather awe-inspiring.

The fact that you are uncomfortable with certain sexual preferences is a problem on your part, nobody elses.

And I'm
not sure if you've noticed, but the stigma of sexuality is slowly but
surely being dissolved as our collective society grows more mature and
confident; a process which has prospered due to a rational majority
supporting it.
That
you align yourself with the vocal opposition is your decision, but I
trust you are aware of that your liaison is an assembly of deluded, dogmatic
moralists at best -- seemingly immune to any kind of argumentative
discourse.

thats what i ment to say =p

I do feel that most of the gay community here are missing the main anti point.. which is that rather than spend time and money on art, animation, writing and voice acting for something that most people will avoid and never see, they could spend the same time and money on art, animation, writing and voice acting for something that everyone will see and enjoy, including your community.

If you make a character bisexual and therefore available to both males and females, you will need very little, if any extra animations and dialogue.  Getting the actor to record a few extra lines can't cost tha much.  Same goes with animations - you can either use the same ones as the straight romances, or failing that I cannot imagine it breaks the bank for BW to programme in a new 45s in-game cutscene.

Your reason for not including the gay romances is pretty flawed imo.

Sure.  Sounds great.  And in the mean time there's always hitting the word processor for some good ol' fan fics amirite.  Ho boy, 6th grade, how I miss thee.

Self deprecation, not insult, friend.  No attempt, because no intent.  Wait.  Are you writing fan fics?  ARE YOU?  I wanna see.

And c'mon.  It wasn't that poorly worded.  D:

Fanfic writer? :o YAY! Do you write any Mass Effect fics?

XD No I read fics though my fic writing sucks. (Though I'm tempted to write a M!Shep x Kaidan smut fic) .

Yes yes it was. :D

Add in straight gamers who like to play the opposite sex, and you'll have easily 20%.

It doesnt matter what was INTENDED you clown, what matters is what was ACTUALLY put in the game. And its ACTUALLY in the game that he likes girls, go talk to him ffs. The fact that all this stuff was intended or talked about doesn't mean a damn thing, at design level nothings set, once it's in the game, it becomes a non-variable, it becomes a static, known factor.

Who says? Sure as hell not you, mr obviously a programmer at Bioware. Oh wait, you're not, so shut the hell up

And in the face of UNDENIABLE logic, all you can do is comeback with "shut the hell up!". Nice. All you have is fantasies.

Agree completly with truestatic, would like to throw in my opinion, anyone ever thought that the reason bioware havnt done it is because they dont have anyone comfortable writing m/m stoof. Im not saying they are homophobic or anything just that if they arnt familiar with these things it would seem abit "stuck on". If they add it it has to be in a tastfull and well made manner or it shouldnt be added at all.

If that was the case then I would be perfectly fine with it. I'd rather see it done well then half-a*sed and awkward. But Drew, the writer for the first game, wrote a gay character in ME:Ascension and he apparantly did a great job with it. Further more the use of gender neutral language makes it so that romances work no matter who is talking to whom. Gay romance doesn't require a secret language or anything.

John Locke N7 wrote...
i want to explain why i said why i
said, and i why i stick by it. the oly reasons for not having a gay
option that the "other side" of this agruement is that 1. its taboo. 2.
i dont like gays. 3.i dont want to get in a situation where a chacter
of the same sex offers a romantic option with me.
currently this
is biggorty, if they was i dont want mako driving beause its not fun.
you can have 2 sides of that agurments making valid points. but this
agruement isnt "should there be a gay option" its "should the gays be
given an option of play".

Which means you have ignored the following points made by "the other side"
-Changing existing characters breaks immersion
-Dedicating resources to something for the sole purpose of satisfying the desires of a small portion of the fanbase is unfair to the rest of the fanbase.
-Patching games just to add a romance isn't cost efficient for the company

They're all good points. I agree with all of them too. There is nothing bigoted about a logical argument based on personal experience or rational business practices.

Heres how it is, out in the world, 99% of the time, if a man sleeps with or is into a woman, he's straight. I know that destroys your little "all lets be Bi/gay" fantasy, but it isn't how the world is, thank god.

I realise this post is a little acerbic and abrasive, but people arguing to change established characters REALLY pisses me off. I mean it's just rediculous. And it would ****** off a lot more people than me if it was even considered. Thankfully, it isn't gonna happen. I still get agitated by it though.

Just for the sake of arguing:
Leaves Garrus and Thane who both never had sex or a relationship with a woman just with females of their own species.
And changing an character already was done by Bioware, according to your logic Juhani started Bisexual but was turned lesbian in Kotor.

But putting one or two new npcs for m/m and f/f would be prefareable because more options for us players is always better

I dont really care who will be the m/m option, aslong as one is implented
But technicly if I recall correctly Kaidan is the only male LI that mentions a relationship with a human female ( a highschool crush ), Thane was married to a female drell ( we dont even know how they look or if they are similar to human females ) and Garrus had a one-night-stand with a female turian ( same argument as female drell ). So the hetrosexuality of the established characters stand on shaky ground and is mostly based on the fact that they are only an option for female Shepard.

But considering how many dont want them to change, creating a new LI would be prefereable.

You sir, have the god given right of DEDUCTIVE REASONING!!! YAY!!

As someone who is staunchy apposed to them changing current characters for people who want bisexual characters, I'd be down for them to create a new squad-mate. I wouldn't use the romance of it, but it'd good for those who want it while preserving current characters and not changing current characters for the small vocal minority.

Amen. We made so much progress on the old thread when the bickering stopped.

It's a cumulative effect; one hater comes in, starts to spam, gets recognised and answered to, and soon enough they're all here. Ofcourse they're still the minority just as much as the gay community is; most players or forumites don't care either way.

ooo wowpwnslol, man all this negativtly towards me, its pretty hot. would mind if i penetrate your anus? im totaly in to you

You're not doing your cause much good like that. It's bad enough that the opponents of same-sex options use spam and insults; it doesn't have to go both ways.

Hm...so if I can't have Kaidan or Thane I at least want a new male Biotic (malien or no I want him to be a biotic). Humanoid. If human some long hair would be nice. Maybe a cute little English accent and stripperific clothing.

In that case you're underestimating the demography. I can easily see 1-5% of the players of Mass Effect to be gay. By my experience they are more widely represented among RPG fans than most other genres, and Bioware has had a reputation as a gay friendly company in the past, which increases the interest from that side. And many, many straight gamers like to play the opposite sex character at least on the side.

Still 20% is a large minority when we are talking 2-4 million sales.

Very. As I told you some threads ago, there's a lot of money to be made in minorities without great costs.

@ jimmy fury, 2 options you say are patching the exisitn game with romance options, and chaning charcters. those would be fine agruements, ones id fight for. but this is gay romance in ME 3. and the dedications of reasources part iwill retort with this. it costs pretty much 2X the amound of money to have a females shepard option. 2X again for evil and good options. after already doubling the female and male. adding a gay romance option being made would not cost considerably more reasources that would take away from any other part of the game. lets not forget all the diffrent choices of the game carrying over from 3 differnt titles. and money and reasources just isnt an issue if bioware does somthing. they can get it done.

No to the clothes, accent is fine... and biotics are generally considered physically weaker than soldiers. (Shepard excluded whom no one ever mentions as a biotic anyway)

Hendel however, is BOTH a biotic and a soldier...
