The Mass Effect Universe is very interesting.  IMO, the most interesting Sci-Fi Universe to date.   The fans just don't want to be excluded from it.

Not of mass effect.  We do know that the percentage of gay people overall compared to straight people is very small and the percentage of gay gamers compared to straight gamers is even smaller.  Therefore knowing that there is a very small minority of gay players that play any games at all, we can make logical conclusions that the percentage of gay gamers playing Mass Effect would be really really small.

My whole point though was simply that you cannot judge percentages of who wants what on a forum poll of about 30 people which was only advertised in this thread.  Because you won't get an accurate reflection.

It is likely, and i'm sure you will agree, that if there were a poll of every single player of Mass Effect - Tali in ME3 or Gay Romance in ME3 for instance, then Tali would win by a large percentage.

You can estimate these things.  My theoretical statistics are almost certainly more accurate than some of the biased polls.

That said, I'm really not against gay romance in ME3.  I just don't think it is likely that it will happen.  Not yet at least.

ok dude again WE DONT KNOW the percentages

Straight up.  I got chills during the speech.

On that note though, the creators of it should've made Hale's speech a little louder.  Parts of it are hard to pick out of the crescendos.

Female Shepard Launch Trailer Kudos to this person!

And Ryzaki, long hair and tight leather just screams stereotype. Something I think most of us can agree would be bad.

I like it!

Wait you like the outfight idea or no? :? I'm confused.

The trailer :P sorry I got my words mixed up.

LOL

Fine fine. I'll just mourn my loss of Kaidan love. :crying:

There's still hoping its activated on a deluxe or PS3 version. (Supposedly SONY won't let publishers place a game on the PS3 after a certain amount of time passed since it been on the 360 without giving the game extras [I completely understand this and am very happy SONY started doing this (Yay for Japanese VOs in Star Ocean they suck! But they don't suck as much as the american ones! )

What are you being excluded from? You can still play through the game and experience the story just like anybody else. The romances don't effect the outcome whatsoever.

Why would the percentage of gays among gamers be smaller than the  percentage in the general population ?
If anything it is more likly to be higher ( more single and dink households )
And a m/m romance does not oppose a tali romance.
Think about it this way: in ME3 there will be already five women to choose from + the token new girl for those that did not play ME1+ME2 adding a seventh woman would reach fewer players than a man as romance option, so the argument of fewer players is invalid because the m/f romance is already saturated.

Yeah, but it's just not that fun when my Shepard has to remain celibate trough out the whole game.

I tried playing the female Shepard, but she doesn't really feel like MY Shepard.

I still think you will see gay Mass Effect if they make a second saga/trilogy without a doubt.

But i don't think its likely they will add this option into Shepards story. They had gay dialogue in both games and decided to leave it out. So its obviously something they thought about and decided against.

What's the estimate of gay gamers based on? I've never seen any serious attempt to even investigate the question, let alone a reliable figure.

So were the combat mechanics in ME3 bettern than the first 2? I mean, you had to have played it to know whether or not the romance suplots effect the outcome of the story... since it's a trilogy and all...

sorry. hunger makes me snarky.

It depends on the motivation for the omission. In the first game I think the reason was obvious - it would have made every single LI and every single human party member bisexuals, and that would have just been too much for the marketing department's or audience's sensibilities. In the second game it's a bigger question, but I still consider it most likely that the demography wasn't considered significant enough to carter. That's why I think this kind of activism is important. It shows that people care about the option, and behind every active, loud community member there are potentially hundreds of silent gamers who are dissapointed, but not inclined to complain.

It probably varies by genre and choices offered. Bioware has been previously known as gay friendly company, as I mentioned earlier, and could probably get higher than average percentage of gay gamers by giving the option a chance; perhaps even up to 5% of the player base, as I estimated, albeit rather optimistically. The straight gamers who play as opposite sex, such as myself most definately outnumber the actually gay gamers, and will probably be a bigger incentive for adding in the option.

Come to think of it, the pre-order exclusive content itself made it difficult to estimate anything about the total-customer-base.

I bought 2 copies of the game. CE from amazon because gamestop was sold out and Standard from Gamestop because I reaaaaally wanted to blackstorm gun.

So I alone make up a higher percentage of the customer base than people who only bought 1 copy.

While I fully support having the option for a gay romance in games, ME included, I think the chances of it are slim, but it would by no means offend me if it was there.

It was there in DA:O and didn't bother me, I just had to shoot poor Zevran down when he wanted a piece of my warden.

Anyone that has a problem with it being added is being homophobic, just because I'm not gay doesn't mean I need to be offened by it's existence. While Shepard (male especially) has been portrayed as straight so far, you could have played through the first 2 being ambiguous enough to where a well written addition in ME3 (or I suppose an expansion).

You know, you single handedly have won me over on this.  I'll back a gay Shepard.  I still think it is probably more unlikely than not, but you don't get anywhere if you don't try.

I do think DA:O was a good step for Bioware though, it seemed to go down as a plus rather than a negative so I'm pretty certain their future CRPG's (hopefully including another ME trilogy) will include this option from the start.  When its there from the start I think the majority of opposers just accept it without complaining.  A lot of the people opposed just have envisaged Shepard in one way and don't want to see options that divert them from that.

I expect fully that we'll see more like Dragon Age in future games.

I was never really against it.  I just wondered what benefit it had to the majority of the playerbase.  And trolling can be fun now and again.

But then every player is important and if there is a significant market then theres no reason they shouldn't. include this feature.  Especially not just because a few narrowminded people may not like it.

I expect there will be the option sooner or later, whether its in ME3 or not we will have to wait and see. Good luck though.

Mage you're not helping ._.

Anywho. I think I'll go try and draw Hendel or something from the whopping two sentences that explain him... Here's to my failure!

Edit: Or maybe I'll just cheat and try and make him in the character creator. I'll have to use the Dragon Age one though because he has a beard...

I have half a mind to start singing Lady Gaga's Love Game every time I read this topic. I don't know, to me the lyrics sort of fit a M/M Shep/Kaiden possible pairing.

Going to try really really hard to keep this from becoming political...but you do realize that this is the exact same rationale many people use to exclude gay people from marrying, right? ^_^ "What are you being excluded from?  You can still marry the opposite gender, just like anybody else!"

And, again, I have to dispute the notion that the romances in ME2 aren't really that big of a deal.  The romance "subplot" was well-received enough from ME1 to the point that it was deliberately expanded-upon, to the point that there are more than twice the amount of romance options from the first game, easily more than any other Bioware game to date!  The game itself puts focus on the variety of these choices as a deliberate design element.  And it doesn't half-ass any of the options, each one has its own cohesive, immersive characterization and storyline to follow, and are all well-integrated into the development of your own character and storyline.  How many people played this game and yet flat-out skipped the romances?  Be honest, I'm betting you didn't either.

People act like this game is just a shooter now or something.  But the fact is that the time you'll spend in the storyline, cinematics, sifting through dialogue choices, and flat-out just talking to other characters easily rivals the time you'll spend ducking behind covers and shooting at bad guys.

The outcome is the goal is the end. The journey is the interesting thing.
