I don't know why so many people are quick to quote on-the-spot interview replies for their argument. They're always answered in such a way that's so perfectly vague, that they haven't dodged the question, but nor have they answered it. You can pretty much read into it and get any answer you want out of it.

Because that's the only official word on the matter?

True. But it gets thrown round like it's a definite answer, when in reality it's a carefully worded way of saying nothing. It doesn't even make that much sense with a bit of inspection.

I think we can all agree not to base much on that interview

Besides, its a role playing game. We are meant to be someone else or be ourselves in a different context.

That's just it.  With Mass Effect you are not you.  You are playing the role of Commander Shepard, an individual with a personality all his/her own.  You may be able to decide the polarity of that personality, however, but you are not allowed to define that personality outright.  So, just as with the Master Chief, Sam Fischer, or Revan, you will not be able to express yourself exactly as you may want to because full and unfettered personal expression is not the intended purpose of the character you are playing as.  For that, you need to go to Dragon Age or Fable, where the role of the playable character is not to simply act as a vehicle for a story but to act as a vehicle for your own personality.

I don't agree with this because my character in Dragon Age had a personality all thier own ( cocky, wise, arrogant, etc) they even had specific numbers of openings I had to choose from. But that didn't factor in to whether my character was gay or not. An example would be if the game said I had to be straight if I chose the human imperial opening. But that didn't happen, so why should Shepard be any different if I get to choose his background too

Back for more, From the interview I think it's basically your playing our pre determined character ,  we given you some options like missions , dialog and appearance editing. But Bioware has determined which whether right or wrong he can't be gay.Now in Dragon Age your free to decide whatever you want because we or (Bioware) is leaving the decision to you.

Yeah , you can't go by that interview. It's basically here's our excuse now leave us alone about it .But going by this topic they just messed with a bee hive.

That is only your deluded perception. No one really cares about this except for a tiny minority of players and forum members who enjoy trolling those players.

Exactly. If they had any conviction in it at all you wouldn't be able to dig up cut scenes with Shepard saying he's only interested in males and things like that.

I see plenty of support here.  And in other threads.  Again, it's out of place that the content was not included.  Its inclusion would not in the least affect anyone who does not want to see it.  If you're dead set against it, your best recourse would be to simply not post - otherwise, you're bumping the thread.

Anywho, thanks for your support!

Moving on to discuss options for implementing this...

I'm 100% certain that this has occurred to anyone who has spent any time at all thinking about this issue in relation to ME, but aren't the Asari sort of a missed opportunity?  They could have expanded the whole "monogendered" thing beyond all female, especially considering the implications of the overheard conversation on Illium.  With a couple of character models and one new voice, plus an ever so slightly tweaked character history interface to choose sexual proclivity, they could have put beauty squarely in the eye of the beholder and partied you up with a hot blue dude as opposed to a hot blue chick.  It would have been an awesome bit of immersion, added an awesome bit of variety, and really worked with the monogendered thing and the fluid Asari sexuality.

Way too big a retcon to hope for, but god, it makes too much sense.

Except that "monogender" means "one gender." As in, biological sex exists for the Asari, but they only  have one, and that is female.

That's fair. Since I was only speaking hypothetically though, I think it still would have worked out well. It's just that they can clearly change the way they are perceived based on the race of the viewer. You could take that further and tailor their appearance to Shepard based on a question in the character creator, and make them a gender neutral race rather than a monogendered race of women.

Not saying they should do it, just presenting it as a "coulda" that would have made sense.

Because if we did go by the interview, then by playing the game with a custome male Shepard or a female Shepard then you are playing the game wrong. He actually doesn't answer the question, he just forms some non-related statements into something that may sound like an answer if you do not pay attention to it.

I agree that the interview seemed more like a lame excuse than a real explanation to me. >_<

And i don't even explicitly support this petition, i trust Bioware enough to know that they're going to do the right thing.

Well, except that time they cut the homosexual romance from ME1...

Alright, even supposing that interview was word for word truly what he really meant.   So what?  What does it change?  What does he say, exactly, that we didn't already know?  That Bioware is being specifically exclusionary towards homosexuals?  We already knew that. What, did you think anyone was under the impression that Bioware just accidentally forgot to put The Buttsex in their game, and that if we politely pointed it out to them they would immediately realize their mistake and go fix it ASAP?  Of course not.  The fact that there was opposition from within Bioware is  what we were trying to change in the first place.

So what, exactly, is different today than from a few days ago?

The fact that this is on page three.  :D

Nothing's really different.  Let's keep talking though - keep it on top so new people can discuss and express their support, and let's hear some more suggestions for implementation as well.
