I know! Where's something for Legion/Tali shippers?

Disclaimer: I do not believe any of the things I'm saying below. For example, I don't find homosexual relationships repulsive or anything like that, I just want to try and explain why I think there are no homosexual relationships between men in ME games.
The reason why, I think, there is a lesbian option for females and no gay options for males is simply because a good majority of heterosexual males (and possibly females) find lesbian interactions exciting or at least less repulsive than homosexual male interactions. There is a large back-of-the-brain subconscious belief that a woman cannot replace the role of a man in a relationship, and therefore lesbian relationships are inferior to and non-threatening to heterosexual males (it's the idea that two women cannot have a meaningful, loving, committed relationship because it lacks a man, and that they can never really satisfy themselves sexually because they lack penises). Male and male romances are more easily frowned upon in western society because of the idea that, for a man to have sex with another man is to forfeit his masculinity to take on the role of a woman, aka "the lesser of the two genders." I honestly think that most abhorrent dislike of or just flat out hate of gay males has to do with chauvinistic views on masculinity and misinformed/misunderstood ideas about what a relationship between two males is like. Because lots of straight, homophobic males believe that in a gay male relationship, one man "plays the role" of the female---which, of course, is complete bull****.
And I think a lot of frat boys playing ME on their Xboxes would be really offended if, say, Shepherd started coming onto Jacob/standing in a flirty position every time they talked.

not that everyone who disagrees is a hoomophobe, that's just a general statement

I was going to bring up Dragon Age: Origins and it's numbers, but Mass Effect 2 is going for that shoot market (for better or worse), and the two audiences do not always overlap.
That said, DLCs fix this for everyone. Players paranoid about gay relationships do not have to worry, and we get our content. I do not think it would be a problem either way, since people can just ignore the romance talk. I sure did when talking to Jacob or Thane. The "gamers will riot!" argument just seems weak to me, especially since BioWare is getting bad press now for not having same sex romance in the game.

The writers originally designed a few of the characters as bisexual. Voices were recorded and scenes were animated. It was cut out near the final stages of the game. However left on the disks for players and modders to reenable. I do not think they were put off but rather they had to disable it because of outside pressure. This is in both games by the way.Kuravid wrote...
It's not that people are going to riot against male-male romances, it's just that they're probably going to be put off by it. Could also be that some of the writers who designed the characters are simply put off by it.

^that's not actually true. I was raised to believe it was wrong and someone managed to knock some season into me.
Then again seeing one of your closest friends get the s*** beaten out of him because of said ridculous beliefs tend to have that affect on people.

I was brought up in a, for lack of a better term, casually homophobic family. They weren't outright hateful towards gays, but they were never above the occasional "F-ing queers" type comment, it's the small stuff like like this that shapes a young persons view on the world. Duing my early-mid teens I viewed being gay as a negative thing, only later when I actually thought about it in some detail did I make my own opinion on it. It seems some people never outgrow it, or get stuck in social circles that are quick to abuse people for being gay, your friend being an all too common example of what can happen when beliefs go unchallenged.

Suppose this is why trying to increase a player base by turning an RPG into a quasi-shooter was seen as such a bad idea by so many. Fratboys and teenagers tend to not mix too well with our sort.

Yeah. That kind of thing sticks with you. *sighs* And then people wonder why you get disgusted when they go around calling people queers and fa**ots. >_>
Honestly I can't help but have the urge to beat the mess out of people that say that.
Still: back to ME. So Kaidan would be preferred but no one is against a new male LI for the bi M/M option right?
Yeah. There have been mods for ME for ages. You can see the videos of male Shepard x Kaidan or female Shepard x Ashley on youtube with links to download the mods and game saves. Like two weeks ago I even came across a mod for ME2 that was out when the game was released to allowed male Shepard to be involved with Thane and any other romancable character. Trouble was it required playing through the game as female Shepard to unlock the romance then it just turned you male once it was beaten. Thus enabling the after game romances to still function as m/m. I am sure a proper mod for ME2 will come out before too long though. :3KumoriOokami wrote...
Anyone working on renabling any of this for people who don't care about having a few save games that wouldn't work in ME3 due to tampering. ^^...
