I really liked Garrus from the first game and even though his face got jacked up I will still like a Garrus/male shep romance...

I understand how the military is hush hush about gay people serving but it's in the future anyway. Shepard can have sex with a quarian with violet skin and white eyes but he can't have sex with a human male?? Doesn't that seem odd to you?

So yeah. We need to work on that list of suggestions and FAQ for the first post.

Thats just my problem with it, Its kind of sad that a female shep can be as homosexual as possible as i dont care but if Garrus is gay I have a problem.

I guess im wrong /:

I think this was a mistake in the overall dialogue process in the first place. It is very hard to maneuver around romances in Mass Effect (a lot easier in Dragon Age). It doesn't really help either that once you've activated the romance, you can't back out of it like you can in Dragon Age. In Mass Effect, it always seemed like you either have to activate the romance to get to know them or be nice to them or just act like a d#*&he to them and it just never really made sense.

Would not happen Lopake. Allow me to quote myself from a few pages back as I do not want to type it up again.

"I actually posted a solution for ME3 you would like I think. In ME2
should you not romance any of your squad mates Mordin makes comments
thinking you are interested in him. Now what if this scene were needed
to have been seen in an imported save in order to unlock m/m romances
in ME3? You would have no chance of having your Shepard being hit on
while we would still have our option.

There was also another solution of a optional DLC released alongside the launch that
would enable m/m and f/f romance options. Would either of these
solutions offend you?

Someone also suggested making the responses that initiate romances with
characters green. Would also help me not feel bad for having my Paragon
Shepard reject female characters just because I wanted to know their
backstories."

Would any of these options work for you Lopake?

No you're not wrong. Many guys like to see two women together but not two men. The solution is simple, downloadable content that unlocks m/m and f/f romances or a patch to the game that lets you have romances with the gender of your choice. It could be shown as  bright green in the dialogue tree, and be easily distinguishable.

Haha. I am glad it would work for you. I find I have much the same trouble with my female squad mates. I either have to turn them down or just not talk to them in order to keep my Shepard single and gay.

This is being remedied, according to a news article you can read it here.  So, maybe Bioware putting m/m content will be a good thing, because it supports a good cause in addition to giving a fair amount of options to everybody.

This thread has moved on a fair bit since I was here last night. Great debate folks :)

Just a couple of (hopefully quick - I'm of a rather verbose nature) points I want to make based on the last 10 pages:

Collider: I think we've eventually ended up on the same page. I can't envisage the retconning of characters in the sense that there's a switch you flip that allows you to go back and replay ME1 and have manShep get it on with Kaidan. ME1/2 are what they are. It's disappointing that content isn't there, but it isn't. For me this is all about hoping ME3 can be a better and more sexually inclusive and equal game. Regardless of whether my manShep can sleep with Kaidan or not in ME1/2, my manShep is gay, and does fancy Kaidan, and since Kaidan doesn't tell manShep he's not interested in him I've created a little 'lingering glances they can't/don't/won't follow up on' backstory for them. My ideal ME3 would allow me to follow that backstory to completion, not just in my mind but in-game. If Kaidan isn't going to be romanceable for manShep in ME3, then I'd like the option for my manShep to be able to move on when he realises their relationship also moved on with Shep's death, and their meeting on Horizon, and for him to find happiness with a new, romanceable male character. (As you can see, like the good roleplayer I am, I have this story worked out in my head already :P)

On the subject of DLC: I really don't think this is going to happen, and I don't think it should. Can you imagine how it would be reported? I know some have already said there would be ways and means of getting around bad reporting, but seriously, I really think it's a bad idea. It sends out the wrong message, and, well, I really honestly can't see it ever happening. S/S options should either be in the main game or they shouldn't. Bioware can then be judged by whoever would so judge them on the integrity of the game as is.

So, in summary:

* Same-sex relationships should have been included from the beginning of the trilogy. They weren't, we have to live with that.

* With the benefit of hindsight, same-sex relationship options should be included in ME3.

- I personally would like this to include the option of Kaidan being an option, on the basis of the backstory I had to create for my gay manShep in ME1/2.

- If that doesn't happen, there should be a new gay/bi character for manShep to fall for.

* Everyone needs to realise that players have Shep be the Shep they want him/her to be. This extends to the traits they recognise in other characters like Ashley/Kaidan. If my manShep is gay this does not make your manShep gay, and vice versa. If my Shep is renegade this does not make your Shep renegade. That's roleplaying, folks.

I came across the ME2 mod two weeks ago or so. It was still in the early stages. It required you to play through the game as a female Shepard till after you beat it. Then the mod transforms you into male Shepard. When you call whoever you romanced up to your room it allows you to do the cuddling together and all that from ME2 as m/m. As far as I am aware a proper unlock mod has not been completed however is still in the works.

I've used a save game editor to do something similar.  I think you can also play the entire game as a male, but just gender change to a female right before you have romance dialog with the guy you're interested in romancing, then just gender change back afterwards to continue playing.  When changed back to a male, do not select the "I want to talk' option as you are now the 'wrong' gender and the romance will be nulled.   After the second romance dialog, the romance flag gets set, so you can now continue on romancing them with a male character.

I believe each romance has 3 dialogs that happen after the squad mate's loyalty mission.  You only have to gender change for the first two (since the flag seems to get set after second convo), from my experience with playing through the female romances as a FemShep.  You do not have to gender change for the non-romance dialog that happens pre-loyalty mission.

FYI:  I've followed the instructions found here.

jlb524: This is interesting news. I am quite pleased. When I start my third playthrough I will certainly try this. Thank you very much. 8D

catabuca: I would have to agree on them just being included in ME3. I was only arguing in favour of a patch for the sake of a good debate. I would not turn down a way to play it in 2 however it is not something I can see happening.

Although i see why people want to make romance dialogs pink or green or whatever (it IS sometimes difficult to tell if shep is flirting already), i think it's ok the way it is. More like in real life, where the intentions are never really clear either and you have to try and see what happens. In a game you can always save and reload to try another option if it turned out unacceptable. So, there's a safety net, so to speak.

If we cannot get this content in the form of a DLC (which I still support for the varies reasons I have stated), getting it in Mass Effect 3 or in an expansion (which I hope for for other reasons) is much better than nothing.

Still support the DLC option though.

On the gay marine thing , I don't think that's exclusive to america.Whether your straight or gay your seen as a soldier first meaning on the battlefield and currently off the battlefield your seen as straight. With the new policy their going to pass it would be ok to have same sex relationships as long as it's off duty.

Even with the measure if you are in the same sex group , you would have to check that at the door or battlefield.

SimonTheFrog: The colouring had been come up with because a lot of the people who are against it to not even want to be subjected to homosexual advances. This was one of the ways that they would find it acceptable.

DaeJi: Eh, I do as well. I am just something of a pessimist. Feels like it is too late for ME2 short of a new character.

LOST SPARTANJLC: That is just silly. I have never read any studies to suggest not being heterosexual has a negative affect on someones ability in combat. So asking someone to "act straight" if I am not mistaken just seems like the same old policy. In the UK gay men and women are permitted to serve openly. I am not aware of too many other countries with similar policies rather than practices.

The game has been out for a little over two weeks now. It's still a reallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreally new game with plently of time for changes to be made, if they make them.

I suppose you are right. People will still complain about such things though. Either way I am all for a DLC even if I do not see it happening.

There is always a group that complains; the important thing is what kind of return BioWare will see.
