I am having the exact same problem as everyone else here... no files in the Data folder. I tried copy-and-pasting the code from Smergo, got the error "Path not found" (or equvalent, in my own language). After modifying the commands some, i finally made it work, but got the error:

CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.

and the error

RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

...

What am I supposed to do to make it work???

Possible quick fix. I had the SQL database error. First I uninstalled the toolset. Then I went here:

http://www.microsoft...s/sql/download/

Then I reinstalled the toolset and it worked. When installing the toolset, still choose to install SQL SP3 when it asks.

Didn't work for me.

This is just wierd. Actually, I was just about to update my post a bit. After running the code, even with the error, i installed the toolkit again (no, i haven't missed anything. I actually installed the toolkit again WITHOUT uninstalling it - the link wasn't even there), and then it suddenly opens! Hallelujah! Thanks, everyone!

Tried typing in the cmd promt command, but I get the following error : "Cannot open backup device 'D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak\\bw_dragonage_content.bak'. Operating system error 5.

Anyone know what's the issue? As far as I know my authorisations are in order and so my data paths.

Here's what I enter:

"c:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server\\90\\Tools\\Binn\\SQLCMD.EXE" -S .\\BWDATOOLSET -E -Q "RESTORE DATABASE bw_dragonage_content FROM DISK = 'D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak\\bw_dragonage_content.bak' WITH MOVE 'bw_dragonage_content' TO 'D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data\\bw_dragonage_content.mdf', MOVE 'bw_dragonage_content_log' TO 'D:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data\\bw_dragonage_content.ldf'"

I like the extra security personally - make sure to run the installer as administrator as well - just run the sql installation with administrative rights, it appears that the auto installer does not pass on its rights when the program launches the sql sub installer.

PERMISSION is the key word.

I am on windows XP and my first problem is..I dont have the SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET). Mine only shows SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS). How do I get the BWDATOOLSET thing to show up?

On XP if I select properties on a folder - it says READ ONLY - which I click away but there is no security tab...

If I run the command: "C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server\\90\\Tools\\Binn\\"sqlcmd -S .\\BWDATOOLSET -E -Q "RESTORE DATABASE bw_dragonage_content FROM DISK = 'C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak\\bw_dragonage_content.bak' WITH MOVE 'bw_da_content' TO 'C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\toolssql\\Data\\bw_dragonage_content.mdf', MOVE 'bw_da_content_Log' TO 'C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\toolssql\\Data\\bw_dragonage_content.ldf'"

It gives me an error: Error locating server/instance specified. It says that this error may be present because under the default settings of the SQL server, remote connections are not allowed...

Have you tried running a prompt as administrator? OS error 5 in this context means it didn't have write permissions.

There are two ways you can go about getting the content database working. One of them requires the management studio, I have tested and used it successfully. The other uses tools Bioware provides, but I have not tried to use them myself, so I cannot speak to how well they work.

Method 1 (Bioware Tools):

Try this: Goto your Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\DatabaseUtilities\\Backup_Restore folder. Edit Config.ini (might want to save a backup before you go editing this).

Change the [SQL Server Name] entry to the name of the SQL server you installed (SQLEXPRESS). Change the [Path to Directory Containing Existing Backup Files] to where ever your bw_dragonage_content.bak file is ( should be Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak ). Change [Name of Existing Backup File to Restore] to bw_dragonage_content.bak.

Save and close it, run Restore.bat.

Method 2 (Management Studio):

Connect to your database in the management studio. Right click the databases folder under the instance of the SQL Server you want to put the DA database in. Choose Restore Database. In the new window that opens enter bw_dragonage_content in the To Database field. Choose the From Device radio button under source and click the ... button. Ensure File is selected for backup media and click the add button. Tell it to open your \\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak\\bw_dragonage_content.bak file. Click Ok 2 times to return to the Restore Database window. Ensure the Restore checkbox is ticked in the list. Click Ok. Your database should be good to go once the restore completes.

Tried this via the BioWare tools, and maybe I was too much of a newb, but it didn't work.  Used the management studio, and VIOLA!  It worked.

Eventually got the database backup problem sorted by sharing my folder.

The toolset still refused to work though, so I tried various things concerning authorisations and SQL. With no luck, untill I tried the following that Neuzl suggested :

It is possible that your SQL service has no administration rights. Try
changing this in control panel -> administration -> services
-> properties of "SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET)" -> login tab ->
check "local system account".

It still didn't work, but then I remembered I changed the "Content Database" parameter of the "ConfigureToolset" in an earlier attempt to fix it. Changed it back to "default" and now I got it running.

A pat on the back to all the contributers who are helping people, thanks again.

ok, i do it: i give full access in /windows/system32 and in "dragon age folder" (not only "data folder"), then reinstall the tool. After that in "services" i check local account in the proprieties of SQL server (BWDATOOLSET) and in SQL server VSS writer. Then it work for me. I got Windows xp sp 3.

Same here. In spain the folder Program Files (x86) is called Archivos de Programa(x86) ¿could be a reason for the installation problems?

the tip from ogre78 seemed to help somewhat: after i removed the protection in the windows32 folder the toolset installed without that msxml6r.dll error message, but when i try to set the sql stuff of the bwdatoolset to local service i get an error message, and i dont even know where to look for this "VSS writer"

in the command line i still get that prelogin failure when i try to create the database

the little solutions that seem to work for some are clustered all over this forum, i try this and that, and i dont believe i can this version of the toolset EVER get to work, and even if it works i have the impression its just some messy tool without any structure (it sounds like that when i read the forums)

so plz you official guys, give us some feedback when we can expect to download the REAL toolset, and not that bucket of many bugs

Try to disinstall all tool and sql, before you start a reinstallation look with "search command" if some sql folder or files are present on your system and manually cancel it. Then install the tool with default setting and see if it give some errors. If you dont have error during installation go in "services" and check the local system and "interaction with desktop" options in SQL VSS writer and SQL BWecc. THEN RESTART IT, it's important.

what exactly do you mean when you say i should go in "services"?

do you mean the sql server configuration manager and click on the left side on sql server 2005 services?

if yes there is on the right side then only "sql server (bwdatoolset)" and "sql server browser", no SQL VSS writer and SQL BWecc, and no option that has something like "interaction with desktop"
