Assuming you currently have a failed install of SQL and the
Toolset...
* Uninstall toolset via Add/Remove Programs
* Uninstall all files related to SQL via Add/Remove Programs
* Remove remaining SQL related items via Windows Install Cleanup
* Uninstall MSXML6 via Add/Remove Programs (this may or may not work,
move on regardless)
* Remove any instances of MSXML remaining in Windows Install Cleanup
* Reinstall Toolset
You should see a configuration screen at some point during the SQL
install. If that runs successfully, the toolset should run.

"C:\\Program (x86)\\Microsoft SQL Server\\90\\Tools\\Binn\\"sqlcmd -S .\\BWDATOOLSET -E -Q "RESTORE DATABASE bw_dragonage_content FROM DISK = 'C:\\Program (x86)\\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak\\bw_dragonage_content.bak' WITH MOVE 'bw_dragonage_content' TO 'C:\\Program (x86)\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data\\bw_dragonage_content.mdf', MOVE 'bw_dragonage_content_Log' TO 'C:\\Program (x86)\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data\\bw_dragonage_content.ldf'"
Yet, it does not work, keeps complaining that the path does not excist.
Does anyone know what I did wrong, or just have a slight hint?

The only thing I have left to do is a clean reinstall of windows 7 64 on my PC but I feel that it is over the top...
Is anybody at Bio considering doing another, more user friendly installer ? One that doesn't assume I know a lot about windows and mysql ?

I had to change the \\\\90\\\\ to \\\\100\\\\ on my system.
Found the path, but now I get timeout errors.

This comprehensive combined explanation finally made it work for me. You (and the others that provided the partial solutions before) can consider yourself hugged and squished and near-ravaged if you want.Neuzl wrote...
Let see if i can sum this up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Dargon Age/tools/toolssql
Right klick the Data folder and then go to properties , go to the security tab and then edit give full access.
Data -> properties -> security tab -> user -> edit -> full access
Then press ok, close the window and open the CMD.
In vista:
Start -> search bar -> type cmd
OR
Windows button + R -> type cmd and then press enter
In XP:
Windows button + R -> type cmd and then press enter
OR
Start -> run -> type cmd and then press enter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now when you are in cmd copy and paste this command:
"c:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Microsoft SQL
Server\\\\90\\\\Tools\\\\Binn\\\\SQLCMD.EXE" -S .\\\\BWDATOOLSET -E -Q "RESTORE
DATABASE bw_dragonage_content FROM DISK = 'C:\\\\Program Files
(x86)\\\\Dragon Age\\\\tools\\\\dbbak\\\\bw_dragonage_content.bak' WITH MOVE
'bw_dragonage_content' TO 'C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Dragon
Age\\\\tools\\\\toolssql\\\\Data\\\\bw_dragonage_content.mdf', MOVE
'bw_dragonage_content_log' TO 'C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Dragon
Age\\\\tools\\\\toolssql\\\\Data\\\\bw_dragonage_content.ldf'"
Include both " "
Remove \\\\ so you only have one after each path.
If you have installed the Microsoft SQL
Server on another location edit the command so its match yours.
Example:
d:\\\\Program\\\\Microsoft SQL
Server
But if you get permission denied in database ´master´
go here and follow the guide:
http://www.sqlserver...permission.html
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope this clear some things up.

I guess it's too much to ask for an install that actually installs the program correctly.
And now i've got a migrane because of the toolset....

The problem is that in SP3 the msxml 6 -file is the problem, so you have to uninstall it and the try to install the toolset again. So you need to install "Windows Installer CleanUp utility"... which you can find from that link and information on how to use it.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but then I get
An instance with the same name is already installed on this computer. To proceed with SQL Server Setup, provide a unique instance name.
Checked if any service was still running, but nope. Anyone managed to bypass that for a 2nd install?

It is possible that your SQL service has no administration rights. Try
changing this in control panel -> administration -> services
-> properties of "SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET)" -> login tab ->
check "local system account".
Also go to Start -> Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -> Configuration Tools -> SQL Server Configuration Manager.
Then
SQL Server 2005 Service, on the other side you will see SQL Server
(BWDATOOLSET) make sure the state is Running, if not right clickand then start.

Is that something to worry about? I can't uninstall the toolset (don't really care so far), but will that cause other problems? I have all the above problems too.
*cries* This is so complicated.

This is if you get the following message while installing: "The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine [Your Computer Name] Error:2147749896 (0x80041008)."
(If like everyone else, you find the "/" are duplicated, just compare the address I posted here with the address in your browser for this site, then remove any extra / you find) =) Good Luck and Have fun!
