This has to be the most bland character Bioware ever created, did they not have time or something?
The first time I met him on Omega I thought `huh? who the hell are you supposed to be?` No build up, nothing!
He came out of nowhere, you cant even talk to him on the ship like a normal crew member... old washed up geezer thinking he's tough...
The only thing I did like was how his victim grovels before Zaeed kills him.
Why is Zaeed in the game?

To kick start the awesome. Come on how can you hate him? He has better voice acting than most of the other characters.

He has great war stories, and some of his smart ass comments are funny. I love Zaeed and wish you could talk to him more, but even if you could whats the point? They'd make him alot like Canderos Ordo from KOTOR (Which he already is alot like) so even then you'd just ask him for war stories and sometimes make comments in the middle of them, and ****, I know a ton of people who thought Canderos was the best character in KOTOR.

Zaeed is a pretty cool guy.
He isn't exactly shallow, I'm pretty sure that he's got more dialogue then Garrus does. You've just got to talk to him like a random NPC.

I really like him. I agree he's possibly underdeveloped in comparison to other BIoWare characters, but by no means is he poorly written or bland. I think he actually has more personality and character going for him than some others, including Kaidan, Jacob, Liara and Miranda. He might not be as dynamic as the rest of the cast, but not all characters can be expected to undergo massive personality changes mid-game. By no means is he as good as Garrus or Tali or Mordin, but he is still, in my opinion, a well-written character overall (which is impressive, especially considering how much time probably actually went into him).

Canderos was great, the fact that I didnt think Canderos when a talk to Zaeed says something...Lord Shadowsong wrote...

Zaed is great! I had my doubts at first but he turned out to be a fun one! His royalty mission is one the my favorite as well. I don't really mind not being able to talk to him though... I'm not a fan of big guy pouriing his heart out to me about his dead wife and his child who hates him... hm.. that sounds kind of familiar... :3
Edit: Thane is great though. I like Thane. Just don't like talking to him. What a sissy!

Zaeeds great DLC too. He has the most realistic face out of everyone, has has great voice acting. But you can't really set the standard since he's the only DLC squad mate.

I really like his comments on the torture scene in Purgatory. "Torture chances you, both the tortured and the torturer. Personally, I don't think it's worth it."

Zaaed is awesome. What he isn't is as interactive as the rest of the cast. But he's a really handy, shooty squadmember, with both anti-shield and anti-armour powers.
And a great VA.

Aside from Grunt, Zaeed is probably my favorite character. His lines are pretty funny and I enjoyed his old stories.
I think people only dislike him because he flipped out on that valve for absolutely no reason. There most definitely should have been an interrupt on that scene.

I'd say Tali takes that role, but w/e.
Zaeed is pretty cool though. Sure, you can't talk to him like the other squadmates, but it's not as bad when you consider his comments in game, and his war stories come pretty close to matching the length of dialouge other characters get.
And his room is one of the coolest on the normandy.

I found I included Zaed in my party on the majority of a playthrough (well, until I recruited Grunt

Hes got great combat, awesome war stories, some nice smart ass remarks. Personally I love him, and if I cant put him in my personal squad and he dies, I will uninstall ME2.

Heck, I asked that question about all the characters...but Zaeed is definitely the most useless.
