I'd say Tali takes that role, but w/e.

Zaeed is pretty cool though. Sure, you can't talk to him like the other squadmates, but it's not as bad when you consider his comments in game, and his war stories come pretty close to matching the length of dialouge other characters get.

And his room is one of the coolest on the normandy.

Im still wondering why he has the cameras in his room....

PS: Shameless Zaeed group plug: http://social.bioware.com/group/1372/

He has his uses when you first start the game. I'm not going to lie. Jacob and miranda were annoying to have around when I first started the game. Having two biotics wasn't very fun. After I got Zaeed. I stopped dieing so much. It felt like I had a more balanced team. I always like a solider/engineer and 1 biotic in my crew. Zaeed filled in my solider part for me. Plus I love his complements in battle. I can't wait to find out what Kasumi is like. I just hope shes not a biotic. We've got way to many of them.

At first I didn't like Jaeed but looking back he was a pretty awesome character. His loyalty mission was one of my favourites, he makes a lot of comments if you have him on your team and if you visit him regularly he tells you war stories as well as comment on the team and the current situation of the mission. The only thing he was lacking was interactivity and a better entrance.

p.s He is also GREAT in combat.

I disliked Zaeed. Tuff guy mercenary with no conscience, ye real original.

Canderous was a LOT more interesting then Zaeed. Canderous didnt go to war because he didn't care about anything or anyone, but because that's what his people were all about.

Lots of Zaeed love I see.

I guess not too many people care about build up or deeper interaction.

I don't understand the appeal. He's barely interactive relative to the other members of the group.

saying he is DLC is no excuse. As has been mentioned before Shale from DAO was DLC, but you could talk to her fully like any other character and have decent conversations rather than a one sided 'here is my story you listen' style that Zaeed takes.

Zaeed is frankly about a zillion times more charismatic than frickin Kaidan, who was so bland it hurt.

Zaeed is too much of a badass to cry about how he was never there for his kids.

I like Zaeed, interesting stories, good voice acting, a little more plot development would be nice, or the ability to mold some sort of relationship with him would be welcome as well. I would like to actually talk to the man, instead of just hearing stories, that would be cool but it is understandable why he is the way he is, he is a DLC character.

"Hey, what's up, [character of alien race]"
"OH NOTHING, JUST THINKING ABOUT [x]"
"Tell me about [x]" or "[investigate, get three topics about alien culture, or character's history]"

This is how almost every conversation with your squadmates will play out, which really isn't all that different from just hearing about his history through old stories.

You're both wrong.

It was Biff the Understudy.

It's a pity that he doesn't talk too much on missions. He makes a few pity comments during Jacob's loyalty mission, but that's it.

Financially he is there to provide players with some incentive to purchase the game new rather than used (I'd rather EA use an "incentive" rather than a "punishment").

Technically, I think he's there to help out weaker combat classes early in the game. Once you get Grunt, he's out of a job in my squad.

Zaeed has quite a few lines actually. Like he knows the one Batarian merc leader on Garrus' mission personally and they speak a bit, and there was more, I remember at least Jack's mission where he had some comments.

Seriously? He has some of the most dialogue in the game. Take him on Garrus's recruitment mission, he and Tarak start talking to each other and reminiscing.

None of the squaddies talk a huge amount on the loyalty missions, though. It's not like with Dragon Age, where I would constantly get annoyed by how few party members I could take with me because I wanted as much banter and commentary as possible.

Zaeed always has a few things to say on every recruitment mission, I've found.

And, yeah, on Garrus' recruitment mission he has a lot of stuff.

Zaeed is in the game because every game needs a Canderous Ordo.

I think the lack of interactivity fits him perfectly. He was leading the Blue Suns before Shepard was even conceived, and he's arrogant enough that an "I talk, you listen" mentality fits with his character.

He's a straight mercenary, and perfectly happy with it. He doesn't want to save his race, re-connect with his son, or wants his soul saved. He's there for a job, and he wants to get paid. He's not going to open up to Shepard about the time he didn't get a teddy bear for Christmas.

No biff was funny, now Anomen needed to die.

My favorite rpg characters ever: Edwin, Minsc, and Keldorn. Sadly, edwin gets along with neither.. HAzza mods!

I always liked him. He's a very down to earth character who doesn't take anything outside of his loyalty mission too seriously. In many ways, he's the ME2 equivelant to Wrex.

Not only does he have some pretty funny opinions about the various places that you go to, he also has a rather lengthy discussion with you about his gun Jenny and how that rifle killed more people than were lost in Skyllian Blitz.

As for comparing him to Shale..... I was under the impression that Shale was actually to be a part of the game, but was cut to meet deadlines. It's too well integrated to be simply a DLC. Zaaeed is free as long as you have the Cerberus Network DLC. Shale was not, unless you pre-ordered.

Shale wasn't originally meant to be DLC, though. Her DLC wasn't a "plug in" so much as it was the completion and unlocking of stuff already in the game.

Actually Shale is free with all new copies of Dragon Age just like Zaeed.
