Recruitment: Tali. The Colossus really terrified me when I first saw it, right up there with the dracolich as an "oh, crap" moment.

Loyalty: tie between Mordin and Miranda. Miranda's really humanized her, especially the good end, and I really enjoyed watching Mordin wrestle with his conscience.

Recruitment:

1. Garrus - I saw it coming when I heard Archangel was a Turian, but when he took off his helmet I still couldn't suppress a grin. Moving around the base killing mercs as my Vanguard while he picked off incoming enemies with a sniper rifle was icing on the cake.

2. Jack - The prison ship mission had a really dynamic, exciting feel to it. It flowed really well and the boss fight had a cool gimmick without the respawning enemies feeling cheap or overly obnoxious.

Loyalty:

1. Tali - Tons of character development, and an interesting paragon, renegade choice at the end (if you don't just charm/intimidate your way out of it, of course.) Has obvious implications for ME3.

2. Zaeed - Unlike the others, there's no perfect way to give everyone what they want. Either you catch the bad guy or you save the innocents. Not both. Excellent implementation of ethical dilemmas.

Honorable Mention to Jacob's mission, although it would have been better as a stand alone side mission without an squadmate telling you the whole time that everything wasn't kosher.

Recruitment:

1Archangel/Garrus. Fun renegade options and plenty of sniper practice.
2 Jack. Good clean killing fun.

Least Favourite - Samara.

Loyalty:

1 Samara. Yeah I chose Morinth. I reloaded it to try out the other 2 'attention grabbing' options. Alot of fun.
2 Grunt. I liked facing the Thresher Maw and helping Grunt find his clan made me feel proud. :)

(Also Tali. I loved shouting down the Quarian council towards the end, and Tali calling you Captain, it was very touching.)

Least Favourite - Jacob. Saw it coming, and it felt short. (Also the first one I completed.)

Also i'd like to say that I actually like Samara, dispite the impression these answers give.

Recruitment:

1. Thane's. I thought being exposed to it with all the pre-release marketing would hurt it for me, but the atmosphere and level design were just epic. I loved the beautiful Illium landscape, the numerous fights, and the various interrupts and mood-building with the Salarians and the Mercs. And seeing the dead body drop from the duct is just great. Snappy ending, too. (oh ho ho c wut i did tharr)

2. Hm... Garrus comes in second. It felt dramatic and, let's be honest, the renegade interrupt on the batarian is priceless. Felt good to work defensively for once and you're invested in Garrus' survival.

Loyalty:

1. Really loved Thane and Samara's. As others have mentioned, these are more RP-heavy with no combat and it's a refreshing change of pace. I think Thane's edges out in that I adore the interrogation scene and Bailey.

2. Mordin's was also very good. It raises a lot of ethical questions and is one of the biggest mind-twisters in the game, IMO.

best recruitment:

- tali: the whole "dying sun damaging your shields" was an interesting dynamic. also, awesome music.

- grunt: korlus (the planet okeer is on) had a really epic feel to it, with the ****-style loudspeaker constantly shouting orders from jedore, and the decrepit ships that you fought through.

best loyalty:

- jacob: the jungle was a nice change of setting, too bad you couldn't explore the gernsback.

- mordin: excellent character development in this one. you see mordin's regrets and his attempts to justify his actions with the genophage

I wanted to like Garrus's recruitment mission, but the fact that I kept getting hit, kept getting those red veins, kept not seeing the guy right behind me I would have seen had I not had those red veins there, and dieing. Killed the fun for me. So, that being that my favorite recruitment mission was Thane's. My favorite loyalty mission was Tali's; lots of great emotion and Geth shooting action.

Best Recruitment: Garrus - It was just extremely comforting for my Shepard to have someone she can trust show up right in the middle of this seedy den in Omega, where the only people who have her back are Cerberus lapdogs. Plus, it was awesome hearing the gangs talk about how tough he was, and it was really tense and emotional at moments.
Runner-Up: Tali. Loved the mechanics of the sun on that planet, plus Kal'Reegar is my new favorite minor character. Plus, it's Tali. I got warm and fuzzy feelings from hearing her talk about Shepard in all of her logs.
Honorable Mention: Jack, Mordin.

Best Loyalty: Again, Garrus (didn't see that coming, eh?)
- Maybe it was because I was set on romancing him, but the struggle to keep Garrus from losing himself was especially poignant to me. It wasn't an exciting, flashy mission, but it was the one where I felt the most emotionally invested.
Runner-Up: Legion. On the other side of the coin, Legion's loyalty mission wasn't very emotional at all, but the moral conundrum was interesting (even more so than Mordin's, I think). Aside from that, it was just really cool being in the heart of the beast, knowing how many of those Geth my Shep had to fight in the first game.
Honorable Mention: Tali, Grunt, Jack.

I think the only reason I liked Thane's mission was because I could beat the **** out of someone for being the rough cop, and then threaten to cut off their balls and sell them to a krogan.

Best recruitment: Garrus (feeling of intensity and other requirements except "kill baddies". + choice of leaving a squadmate with him. Epic feeling of defending the fort against merc bands and chopper in a 4 man battle.

Runner up recruitment: Thane (fantastic design of level. skyscraper was damn fun.) Good depth with getting merc radio/saving salarians.

Recruitment which could of been far better: Jack (prison full of biotics and you just go through the motions fighting prison guards, mechs, and a boring boss-turian).

Best loyalty: Miranda (amazing addition to character depth. good fights, good end scene with tense dialogue and emotional choice.)

Jacob (great idea. fairly original plot. edgy atmosphere, felt well made, excellent setting).

Loyalty could of been much better: Thane (good end part but shadowing politician was hopelessly easy and boring. Didnt feel like i was doing anything. take advice from stealth games please bioware)

My favourite recruitment? Hm. Interesting question. I really enjoyed Garrus's (because, as someone else mentioned, he was a bad ass), but I liked Jack's, too. The whole puragtory thing was cool. Thane's was nice, as well, mostly because of the E3 demo. I guess my favourite would have to be Garrus's, and the runner-up would be Jack. If Thane's had had a little less shooting and a little more role-playing (or the ability to try and stop him from killing Nassana, or to actually choose more than half of what Shepard says) it would be first.

As for loyalty missions, without a doubt Thane and Samara. They weren't the longest, and Samara was one of my least favourite characters, but both of them had more or less no combat, and that pleased me. Mordin was good, too, because it was nice to see Wrex and watch Mordin's character develop. I probably actually liked it the most out of all them, but I enjoyed playing Samara's and Thane's more.

To sum-up:

Favourite Recruitment Mission: The Archangel

Runner-Up: The Biotic

Favourite Loyalty Mission: Thane

Runner-Up: Samara

runner up - Zaeed (j/k)........Jack or Thane (can't decide)

Best Loyalty:

Tali (tears in my eyes throughout / also an easy choice)

runner up - Miranda (tears in eyes again even though i don't like her that much, her love for her sister was the only "depth" to her but it was very touching)

Garrus was best recruitment - there's a chance he'll die and then you don't get him? I wonder...

Samara had the best loyalty mission - so many ways to get it done, with a twist at the end.

I believe he always gets his face blown off by the gunship. Honestly, though, I thought I had screwed something up my first time through and he really was going to die. Then, back on the ship, it's "Hey guys, I'm alright."

For my choices:

Recruitment: Jack's was actually pretty fun. Like Prison Break in space. Runner up had to be Garrus.

Loyalty: Tali's was awsome. I'd wanted to see the Migrant Fleet since the first game, and it was very emotional. Runner up was Thane's. I liked smacking that guy around in the C-Sec interrogation room.

Recruitment: Garrus

Runner up: Legion (if that counts)

Loyalty: Garrus

Runner up: Mordin

However, I have to say all the loyalty missions are superb.
