In Mass Effect Universe. I would love to actually see a real prothean. I'm hoping by ME 3. We can see what the prothean's actually look like. No they are not the collectors. I'm hoping they look like the grey aliens from Roswell. That would be Awesome!Image IPB

Dude? The salarians already look like the greys! C'mon, if you think about it, that would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lame. Seriously. To expect something aristocratic, fascinating, and original and then to just see more salarianesque grey aliens... lame, lame, lame, lame, lame, I have to say. Especially considering the look of the statues on Ilos doesn't resemble a grey.

But I'm with you on the Protheans. I would just gut a nug to see a real one, even if it was merely artwork. I want to know what they were like before the modification.

To anyone saying the vision in ME2 must mean that the Collectors and Protheans look exactly alike--

Remember that the beacon was created by the researchers on Ilos after CENTURIES had passed. Centuries during which the Reapers were using indoctrinated and no doubt genetically modified Prothean agents to round up other Protheans when they first invaded, and the beacon was intended to be a warning of what the Reapers had done.

In other words: "Witness the horror of what they are doing to our species!" was the warning. The vision of the beings that look like the statues on Ilos are shown FIRST in that vision, THEN the Collector form is made visible. As if to show the Protheans being twisted.

Vigil says, "Within a few centuries every Prothean was enslaved or killed..." then, after the Reapers were certain they had extinguished all organic life, after every planet was stripped bare of resources, technology, and slaves, you ask about the beacon--"once the Reapers were gone, the survivors here on Ilos decided to risk sending out a message. We knew it was unlikely there were other survivors, but if there were, we wanted them to know about Ilos." So it was very late in the game when the beacon was activated with that message--centuries after the Reapers had invaded, after Vigil shut down all but the most essential personnel's cryogenic pods.

That was a vision of what they were being twisted into; the vision was very abstract in the first place and in the ME2 vision may well have been intended to horrify other Protheans by showing them what was being done to their species. Like the Keepers, they were altered to suit the Reaper's needs--after all this time, they would've evolved anyway. With the Reapers screwing them up, there's no way that they'd even look exactly the same as they were so long ago.  Besides, it would be a huge letdown if the mythic Protheans looked like four-eyed bug things.

What is fascinating is the implication. The Protheans sent out a message. And if the Reapers missed that beacon in their slow, methodical process of wiping out all evidence of the Protheans, then who can say what else they might have overlooked? Maybe there were Protheans on the far edges of the galaxy, colonists who hid in a similar way to the Protheans. Maybe they received the beacon's message and left their colonies. Maybe they found the researchers on the Citadel and rescued them. And maybe, just maybe, enough of them were gathered due to that beacon that they were able to find a way to hide far from any possibility of detection. Hide, and recuperate.

Maybe they withdrew somewhere far beyond the Milky Way. And maybe if you can somehow uncover that place, you'll find them recruitable as allies in ME3... a species that has been hiding in fear of the Reapers for ages, preparing for a war they hoped never to have to fight. Maybe the Protheans--their descendants--can become part of the galaxy again. Can fight the battle their ancestors never had the chance to fight. It would be epic.

It's quite far-fetched I'll admit that; a doubtful theory... but it's possible, and I would flip if it turned out to be a plan for ME3 all along. I mean, the connection I felt to the Protheans in ME1... it was incredibly moving.

i dont believe the protheans looked like those statues they could have
been anything and those things in the visions could have been protheans
partialy melted down already

also they had a double helix dna
strand like most species but the reapers added a strand of genetic
material down the middle of the dna.

another thing seeing as
reaper ships are made to resemble the races they are made of why does
the prothean reaper look nothing like those statues? it looks almost
exactly like the collector general though

also the protheans on
illos were in cryo-sleep untill the reapers left and the AI woke them
up so they would know nothing about the collectors since they could not
exist yet and by the time they woke up the collectors would be back
behind the omega 4 relay and the reapers back in dark space

so
all in all the "collector" in the vision was what protheans looked like
and the other ones were protheans patrialy melted and that whatever
filled the roll of collector when the protheans were wiped out was not
the protheans

omg did noone read what i posted there is no way the protheans could have known about the collectors!!!

btw the reason that some races think of the protheans as gods is because they left ruins on their planet  I.E. the hanar, which uplifted their society from a dumb caveman type of society to one that communicates and develops tools and such

either take each one of these arguments and disprove it completely or admit that i and the others could be right!

if not then i am just gonna leave because people wont see reason and just argue blindly ignoreing facts

(PROTHEAN REAPER DID NOT FAIL!!! WHERE THE HECK DOES IT SAY THAT!!)

The collectors are the descendants of protheans, but they are not protheans, nor do they look like protheans. That image from the Prothean beacon is a collector not a Prothean...

This story isn't rocket science, why is this even being debated

(if you still don't believe me, look at prothean statues on Ilos, or the images of protheans from the beacons [not the one collector image], or even look at the prothean husks)

Thats why I said in the very first part of this thread I wanted to see. I want to SEE an ACTUAL PROTHEAN IN MASS EFFECT 3. NOw who else would like to see an actual prothean instead of debating about the stupid collectors. It is a big galaxy. I'm thinking one might have survived and maybe they could actually have the ancient race it self be part of your crew just one of them. It could also maybe turn liara back into her sweet self to know an actual prothean is on your team. Ok, now I feel better after writing this. Image IPB

Protheans from Ilos, 50,000 years ago.

Protheans that are now here have been engineered upon by the Reapers for the past 50,000 years.

They do not look alike, but I think the vision was to point the finger at the Collectors so you can know that they WERE Protheans, but do not look like them anymore.

Like an epiphany.

The protheans look like the collectors as seen in the ruins vision. How could the protheans show you a vision they couldn't have ever seen considering they'd be dead. They just have internal mods. Perhaps the protheans and the species we seeing in the statues and vision as well are a species that was along side the protheans or a different stage of prothean or perhaps male and female protheans looked very different.

Essentially the beacon would not show what protheans look like after they were changed so why do we see a collector as of now as we claim. something is wrong here.

As I recall, Mordin explains that only one DNA strain out of three remains from the original Protheans. Everything else is engineered or repurposed from other species. They can't exactly be called Prothean, any more, and probably don't even look much the same.

I believe that it's a warning of what the Reapers are doing to the Protheans. Remember that Vigil's archives were damaged and he didn't have all the information that the scientists on Ilos used to have.

That you say this, perhaps the collectors are a "perfect" race created by the Reapers from different species?
Why were the protheans the only species of thier time? Something is fishy.

@Brand New, if you go to your Codex in Mass Effect 2, go to Prothean, they look like the husk we see on Illos. They never looked like the Collectors we see today. Go to my links, watch the videos. Exactly what Lighttice_av said, barely anything is left of the Prothean, they've been modified beyond word.

That is just what bioware wants us to see. How do we know there won't be a twist. It seems we only see a husk looking prothean as well.

We don't know if theres going to be a twist, what we do know is that Protheans look like what they show on the Codex, Mordin and EDI explain in great length how they were changed, if you can not go to my previous link, look at the videos on Collectors and Protheans, read it then you are refusing actual evidence.

Conversation overheard in the eating area of normandy after the collector ship:

"I can't believe the protheans looked like giant bugs"

"Well, the collecters were genetically modified from their original form"

Or words to that effect.

I'm not sure how much clearer Bioware can be without hitting us over the head. :P

Srsly, "Well, the collecters were genetically modified from their original form" implying that they weren't giant bugs to begin with, also BioWare has hit us over the head with the Prothean Codex entry.

Unforunately the stun of finding out that the Protheans were turned into bugs must have been so powerful people are convinced that they always were bugs and or bug abilities.

Because until the Ilos team disabled the Keeper signal, the Reapers always reappeared after the *first* race got advanced enough to spread across the galaxy.

Only their intervention bought time for the Salarians, Turians, and Humans to join the Asari.

This is just getting ridiculous. No point in proving anything to people who can't read/listen/see. You mention Ilos - Bam! - It wasn't Prothean planet. You mention Codex - Bam! - Bioware lies and places a picture-of-some-random-alien instead of the true Prothean bug-face. Really what's the point? Better /agree and leave. At least I don't get to read any more of those dumb theories.

Be at ease, if you ever have problems with Theories again, check my signature for all the proof you need. The proof is there, though funny, one guy tried to disprove my post in my thread.

But I agree thats the reason why I made the thread, because I get tired of people like how you explained it.
