So with the new expansion just a little over a month away I find myself trying to decide whether I should bewgin my first play through with brand spanking new Orlesian Grey Warden or a trasnferred character.  Part of me wants a fresh start so I can enjoy the expansion without any preconceptions or expectations.  The other part of me is anxious to continue the stories I've already started.  What say ye o' trolls of the forums.
:D

Existing first in my opinion. I always thought of the Orlesian GW as a substitute for an Ultimate Sacrifice warden.

That is a good point. I'm just concerned that if I start with an existing character I might miss the opportunity to enjoy the unique qualities the expansion may have over DA:O. I could be over thinking this one a bit. Always a bad habit for me.

Thats what I plan to do as well.
Finish up with my current character, then afterwards start anew and fresh.

I've been thinking about this as well and I'm leaning towards continuing an old warden's story too. A continuation will no doubt involve meetings with both main and less important characters from DA:O (or, in the very least, learn about what happened to them in greater detail than your orlesian Warden probably ever would).

I went through this in Mass Effect 2 and enjoyed the reminiscing very much.

Thanks for the opinions y'all.  I'm still torn and will probably make a "seat of the pants" decision once the expansion is installed. :)

I'm definitely using my character first, maybe even my other characters with different endings. I'll make an Orlesian later, but I really want to see how the endings play out.

Well, my first main character I created sacrificed himself at the end, and I plan to continue with that saved game. So, looks like I'll be playing the Orlesian.

I think I'll be sampling what the Orlesian Warden has to offer first up, just for a change, and because I can!

I'd say give both a shot. You could try playing an Orlesian first, then play an existing character, that way you can see exactly what a pre-existing character adds to the story.

I don't know, I think there's something to be said for a fresh start. It's like opening a new book in a way. Plus, my character went for the sacrifice so I'm a bit limited on choices.

Existing character first, then Orlesian for me. Really wanna play the Orlesian just to see how that works out, but I have my existing dudes to work with as well.

If I could make a face that looks exactly like Jean Reno I would MAYBE do an Orlesian warden...

But I'm too attached to my (surviving) Gray Wardens to not play them first. Aggronor Aeducan will terrorize the darkspawn again!

I'd start first with my favorite character just to see how much I can re-spec them, and what they might look like in any possible new gear that might come with Awakening.

If there are new origin stories for Awakening, then I'd certainly roll a new character just to see what it's like, especially if they have friends/relatives/enemies that would recognize them later on in the game.

I continue with my last character I liked the most. What comes to Awakening trailer it looks like his storyline breaks badly, but it's still interesting to transfer him onwards.

Perhaps they should make it like the Diablo 2 expansion. New origin that allows you to play the whole DA:O game, then the expansion kicks in with a new cinematic after the final main quest in DA:O.

I think if you happen to make a new DA:O character anyway, it would happen that way. However, I would hate to start a new character every time, especially if I like the current character I'm on.

I'll play both but I'm curious to see how will the game acknowledge my decisions, so I'll start with my old character first.

I hope I will be able to transfer my Ultimate Sacrifice warden's story choices into a new game as an Orlesian warden, but I've been hearing different stories on if that will be possible.

I am actually curious as to what Bioware considers "canon". This is on compelling reason to make the Orlesian first. This could give me a clue as to how well I interpreted duty, honor, etc for the NPC's in DA:O.

I'm torn. I think I might start with the Orlesian first, just so I can metagame for the best outcome for my old Grey Warden the second time through. <.<

LOL!  I've thought of that one myslef.  However, being an accountant in RL, I simply cannot metagame.  For me personally, it's too much like breaking the rules.

I'll definitely be playing with my Origins character first to see how the main choices I made i.e. who is king, who lived/died, possible romances, etc. might possibly play out.

Part of the fun of these games for me is the metagame.  I'm the sort that reads the endings of books before the beginning, so that I can then catch *all* the delicious little hints about it in the middle.  Spoilers ruin nothing for me!
