Im thinking of choosing assault rifle instead of the Anti Material Rifle, the Viper sniper is more awesome imo with its high rate of fire.

what do you think? is a AR a better choice or maybe a shotgun? is the Widow really that powerful?

Definitely not a shotgun for infiltrator. I went for Widow, just because it looks awesome. AR is pretty good too though.

i got the widow on my infiltrator for the insanity run and it's awesome the smg does me just fine in place of an assault rifle upgrade it and wack on war ammo and it's pretty much the same just without as much range but you'll have the widow for that

You already have the Tempest SMG. AR is redundant.

widow is the only sniper rifle that feels as powerful as youd want a sniper rifle to be. one bullet. one kill. im sure the AR is better then the SMG, but if your looking for a rapid fire weapon just use the collector particle beam. its accurate 100% of the time, like 950 ammo, stun affect, its just an awesome weapon. i havent tried the revenant either obviously yet but the tempest, hand canon, widow, and collectors beam im slesyd doing a ton of damage wherever i am. the funny thing is, im an infiltrator, so they dont know where i am anyways.

Widow does almost 40% more damage than the Mantis. It is equal to about 4.5 shots from the Viper. It even has more ammo than the Mantis. Unless you edit weapons then not choosing the Widow is basically a horrible decision.

That being said since I did edit weapons and I gave mantis more ammo, made it have a magazine size of two and a refire rate of 1.5 and I like that better than the Widow.

The Widow is great, add assassins cloak and three shots to a scion's head and it is gone!!!

On my first play through on Veteran, I picked the Assault Rifle because you can't always keep the enemy at range and if you run out of sniper rounds, you need something to fall back on with a bit more punch and versatility than a sniper rifle, especially if dealing with a lot of mid-ranged opponents. I guess I took the class description of 'Tech-savvy soldier' to heart.

On my second playthrough, Insanity, I am definitely grabbing the Widow because I was allowed to carry the Assault rifle with me the second time around.

Get the widow, it's completely worth it.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you're doing NG+.  You don't get to pick another bonus/weapon or swap bonus/weapon on NG+.  Whatever you got on the first run-through is what you're stuck with.

I don't really need to add to this opinion, but the Widow is the better choice the higher the difficulty level.  You can't afford to pop out of cover for long on higher difficulty levels, so having that much damage per shot (meaning less time spent out of cover) is amazing.

Oh, jeez, I guess I misunderstood the end game lol. I guess I'm stuck with my choice now. Thanks for letting me know! I kind of wish I could have picked differently. I'll see what happens when I get to the collector's ship, maybe it'll give me an option to switch up again.

Yeah, if you are an infiltrator, you are a fool to not take the widow. That or you should be a different class.

The revenant AR isn't quite as good to choose as the Widow, you will do some serious damage with Widow, while short range the Tempest will fils the role of AR just fine.

This.

While I like the idea of semi-auto w/ a decent magazine capacity, Viper gets out damaged by the Carnifex Hand Cannon.  That's no sniper rifle my infiltrator wants to use.

Precisely. I really can't figure out what the point is behind the Viper. You've gotta load it up with upgrades and ammo powers just to get the thing to work properly.

Long live the Carnifex.

I hated the Widow. The Viper is good for taking out crowds. Wish I had taken the Assault Rifle option.

Not getting the Widow with your Infiltrator is doing yourself a major disservice... assuming you like the "Sniper" style of gameplay. If you want to play your Infiltrator like a Soldier, you should have just rolled a Soldier. I use the Tempest and Predator as my close/mid range mainstays, due to their high ammo capacities, and I pew-pew tougher enemies in the face with the Widow and cackle as they flop around like rag dolls.

This. The Widow pretty much embodies the whole point of Sniping.

I was wondering what would happen with replaying that section of the game, in case you could get all three... glad I chose the Widow tho. I'm definitely in the sniper gameplay, and got the Widow long before getting the Viper... and of course when you've got the Widow, the Viper feels like a definite downgrade. It may fire faster, but I like the bigger chunks of damage that can take out the Scions in three shots.
