I grabed widow but my friend went shotty and he said its great for going tact cloak and sneaking up on a unsuspecting victim and blowing him away and then grabing cover so sounds like the infiltrator can really use whatever it wants dependent on player style.

Pretty much. Even going Vindicator-Viper-Tempest isn't too bad a choice, though if the Locust is available I don't think Vindicator will add as much to the game as Widow or a shotgun would.

I was not too happy with the Vindicator on Horizon on Insanity with a soldier. The Revenant was too inaccurate (of the "you don't need to be a better shot, you just need to shoot more bullets" school). I figure the faster you do away with the Scions the better off you are. So this playthrough as an Infiltrator on Veteran I'm picking up the Widow. Then onto insanity. Cloak + Widow + headshot hopefully will take care of the problem. Praetorian? Cain = boom b****.

Go with the Widow. It kills just about everything(except those motherf$*king heavy mechs)in 3 shots.AR training...I'd advise leaving it to the other 3 classes(eg. Vanguard,Sentinel,Adept,Engie). And DON'T get shotgun training. They're pretty useless, unless you're a Vanguard and can Charge and give em the good news up close.

Obviously you haven't actually tried them. Or didn't try very hard.

The shotguns are useless at anything except close range...if you try to use em like an SMG even, you're just wasting ammo.

I picked up the Viper & stuck with it to 'try out' during Thane's recruitment & have to say was majorly disappointed in it, I recall someone describing it as 'an AR with a Scope' & I fully agree.  I have gone back to the Mantis.

I can fully understand this. I use the Viper on all but the Infiltrator class. I think it's because of the massive slow down when zoomed that makes the Viper hard for me to control and not nearly as fun as when I'm using it as an Adept or Soldier.

I always go with the Widow as Infiltrator but that's because I like the sniper role and usually mess up horribly when I try to cqc with Infiltrator. However, now that there's the Locust I may make another run through. I'm not sure that i like it due to it's limited clip size, but it's a change...

Then don't use them like an SMG. Put up your cloak and do a sneak attack.

The Widow is probably my favorite weapon in the entire game, all things considered. When I do my Soldier playthrough, I'll have a hard time choosing between it and the Revenant, I'm sure.

Would be more accurate to say it's a rapid-fire Hand Cannon with a scope.

Do you know how many shots it takes a fully-upgraded Mantis takes to kill Harbinger with no ammo powers? I know the Widow can one-shot. If the Mantis can two-shot then I'm taking AR since I don't have the Locust smg.

Widow is more powerfull but takes some time getting used to with its slow rate of fire. But you can probably do fine with the more alround qualities of the assault rifle too. Choose what feels like more your style.

Eh? Widow doesn't oneshot Harbinger. Not even point blank Claymore to the face will oneshot Harbinger.

yeah. I've tried it with headshot, 3/5 damage and armor piercing, cryo ammo on and Miranda with maybe one or two points in her passive.

So I'm wondering if Mantis can do it in two shots, maybe three? My estimate is four shots, but I could be underestimating it.

I'm with swk on this one. The Locust makes an AR redundant, and the powers for an Infiltrator, with the exception of Cloak, don't really suit a shotgun-oriented playstyle, leaving you with the Widow.

I think it's all down to personal preference and playstyle.

(A touch of thread necromancy.)

I find that there are too many "mob rush" fights to count on the Widow on most missions.

That said, the Locust is all but an AR for non-AR-skilled classes, from what I've seen.

widow is the only sniper rifle that feels as powerful as youd want a sniper rifle to be. one bullet. one kill.

This.

While I like the idea of semi-auto w/ a decent magazine capacity, Viper gets out damaged by the Carnifex Hand Cannon.  That's no sniper rifle my infiltrator wants to use.

Precisely. I really can't figure out what the point is behind the Viper. You've gotta load it up with upgrades and ammo powers just to get the thing to work properly.

Long live the Carnifex.

The Viper is perfect in the hands of the Soldier class. Viper + Cryo Rounds + Adrenaline Rush + A lot of froze enemies to decimate.
