I'd aslo like the option to "hide" my helmet. I haven't equipped any yet because I'd rather see Shephard's face...

It is pretty stupid to only have the N7 armour open to customisation it also seems pretty damned lazy as well.

Visor provides a nice bonus without obscuring your face.

Bioware isn't going to do anything about it. <<

It really is that simple.

Y'know this is a perfect opportunity for some trolling from Bioware. They should release a 'patch' that allows you to toggle the helmet on/off, but whenever an enemy scores a headshot they insta-kill you.

I remember Bioware saying that they were designed as a single suit of armor. I cant remember where the thread is. To me its not a big deal as I usually wear my N7 armor just because I can change the parts. But I think the OP is a little too upset about this, and Im wondering if the "if they value their customers" line means that you would no longer play the game just because you cant take off the helmet instead of say....wearing different armor.

I agree, I can't understand why at the very least the helmet can't be removable. Personally I'd prefer if they'd start making armor pieces that are compatible with the great armor customization system they have. They clearly put a lot of effort into making the armor customization and yet they continue to make armors which aren't compatible with it, I don't get it. I have the Collector, Inferno, Terminus, and now Cerberus armors and despite their superior stat boosts I've yet to use any of them (and I doubt I will) simply because I prefer the look of my green camo N7 armor and because I want to see my Shepard's face. Aesthetics are important to me and despite the fact that my level 30 Soldier is getting his ass handed to him on Insanity, I still don't use my Collector Armor or my Collector assault rifle simply because I don't like they way they look.

The shotgun is nice though.

the top bar switches between armor types, like collector and N7. when you go to a downloaded armor, all the options disappear. Why not have a new option come up to toggle helmet off.

Considering Bioware could just flip us all the bird when it comes to DLC (especially free DLC).

This isn't "free" DLC, it's Cerberus Network DLC that we're getting because we purchased new, unopened copies of ME2. Look how many used copies of Halo 3 or Gears of War there are on the shelves at your local Gamestop - when people buy used games, they spend less money but none of that money goes to EA or Bioware. Cereberus Network DLC is designed to encourage people to buy new copies instead of used copies, and only works for as long as the DLC continues to flow. DLC is also designed to discourage store trade-ins since people will want to keep the game in order to see the new DLC as it comes out, keeping used copies of ME2 scarce and again encouraging sales of new copies of ME2 where the money flows to EA and Bioware.

So, no, assuming they want their plan to have more money flow to them and less money flow to the gamestore, they can't just give us the finger on Cerberus Network DLC. In order to drive new game sales and combat used sales, they both need to keep the Cerberus Network DLC coming and make it decently good.

^I saw that same thread. Basically the armors such as the CEs and Dragon Age one were designed as one piece, meaning there's no way to toggle the helmet. Something about the way the default armors were broken down in multiple pieces and it not being possible to do that with the special armors, etc, etc. And it was flat out stated that there are no plans to change the armors to toggle the helmets on/off. If I had known about this, I wouldn't have spent the extra money on the collector's edition box since I don't use one-piece armors as a result, but no big deal. If I recommend the game to someone else, they get a heads up about the armor along with my advice to buy the regular version of the game.

I think the problem is that in Mass Effect 1 it was an appreciated feature. It was well used there. And here, in a sequel they removed that feature, in effect removing a strong immersion agent. That is a bad move for those who love roleplaying games.

They said it was an intended design as well. Add that to the overall lessened ability to customize your gear, like mods, and you went from a sequel to a prequel.

It's weird to take that route considering how much they improved the graphics, but at the same time removed lots of party banter, removing armor and weapon modding. Either they are just narcissistic or they simply didn't have time to add all they wanted and defend themselves by saying it was intended all along.

I'm just glad I finally have armor to show my allegiances, not that stupid N7 stuff to the stupid politicians that refuse to save the galaxy.

Well I'd say its a wasted opportunity; but I'm not sure we can say that its either stupid or lazy, since we don't understand the amount of programming involved.  Giving us the option to remove the helmets and maybe a handful of alternate skins for the armors doesn't seem as challenging though.

All I could think on downloading this armour was: "Hey, I wish Jacob would start wearing this in a vacuum and other dangerous environments"

With the well apreciated removal of the inventory system it was probably difficult to implement, although they could make it so you open the map and hit X to remove the helmet. And you can costomize your gear through way of upgrades. Ive picked up plenty of items that, once upgraded in the lab on the Normandy, bost sheilds, damage resistence, weapons damage, ammo compacity and such. Plus I liked how if you did the upgrade for ammo compacity it makes an ammo pouch strapped to your arm, made it alot more realistic to me.

Sure. i want helmet - off! I wanna see the reaction. I only have the headshot thing on and it makes me look like a dork. Seemed fun at the moment but the helmets... they take away me being able to see his reactions. How his smiles go perv and evil.

The ammo capacity mods didn't add extra ammo pouches to the character's armor. Those were special armor pieces that you can buy  that add even more ammo capacity to your character over and above the upgrades.

But the research upgrades are just that, upgrades. Modding means changing, not just adding a +value to already existing stats. Modding means you can custom the items to fit your playstyle and class.

While the armor pieces you can select from are fun, there are just too few items available. And personally, I think they would have been better off having lots of different full armors with removable helmets and modding slots instead of what we have now. I think it would have made for a more modular game.

That's a very interesting point and makes a lot of sense too if you think about it. Overall though, I know we're getting little teases now with armors and weapons, but when the first real DLC comes out (Looks like it would be the Hammerhead) I seriously hope it doesn't fail.

In the end, I really would like to see a steady flow of DLC for Mass Effect 2 to sort of build up for the invitable ME 3 conclusion.

I'm worried, that after this proposed Hammerhead DLC coming, we won't see anything again until the the winter or early next year which would stink.
