sooo... many say this:

"Those who do not like him never gave him a chance or traveled with him".

I am really, really tired of this argument.

Oghren is a two dimensional cliche that farts, drinks and makes bad jokes... whether or not you take him along depends on how many *extra* opportunities he has to show you that he is nothing but a bad cliche.

He does nothing extra... bad creepy dialogue with all the girls, more drinking, more farting... there is nothing there.

His personal quest takes less than sixty seconds... less than anyone bar Zevran - and you could argue his battle takes longer.

The only time Oghren gets to show even a remote personality is during Branka's quest, which *everyone* gets to see.

The fact that he is so irrelevant to the main game in terms of commenting on *anything* makes me wonder whether his character will be changed for Awakening... at least a recovering alchoholic has some personality...

Oghren has been in my party all 12 run throughs thus far.   Matter of fact he was with my PC the first time I went to kill the Archdemon on the roof of Fort Drakon.

I have done his "side quest"...even that seemed to be..rather too easy and..too shallow.

I am puzzled as to why he was voted by Bioware as the "old returning favorite".      But I guess we'll see what thats all about in Awakenings.

Hopefully his character is more fleshed out than ...drinking lots, burping when you click on him..and leering at the "chicks" in our party.....heh

Although I give him credit for one great line..."Lets show them their hearts and then show them ours".

Other than that...he needs more work. :P

I think Oggy has more character than he let's out. I mean, after being rejected by his wife, he is left to be common joke for rest of the folks. Thus, he is depressed and begins drinking. He is actually quite sad character, despite being rude and drunk most of the time. I certainly look forward to the expansion to give us some more info on this mysterious dwarf ;)

Meh, as long as the returning character is one of my Meatshields Three (Alistair, Sten, & Oghren), I'm happy. Morrigan was a complete *****. Wynne was boring. Zevran was too annoying to live. Shale got old after the first play-through. Leliana was ok, but if I hadn't needed a lockpicker, she would have been left in camp too. Put Alistair, Sten, and Oghren together with my mage, and they're unstoppable. Plus they have some of the best banter in the game.

Honestly I think the only reason they decided on Oghren was that it was the most convenient choice and it required the least amount of work. I am downright disappointed.

It's clear Oghren is the safest choice. I personally liked him and I don't mind at all.

I disliked Oghren because I was a DM for about a decade and every PC who played a dwarf, whether they were returning to the group or new, would act just like Oghren.

Will his stats carry over from origins or will he be at some default lame setting?

Prob default. Which sucks, cause Oghren can be a beast if you get him early enough to keep the auto-level at bay.

Probably default lame setting, but the respec books are only 6 gold.

So...I am wondering ..being that Ohgren seems to have a large influence on this expansion, is it a plan to have other dlcs and or expansions highlight particular characters in this manner. I think I saw some hints somewhere that Morrigan will have something that tells more of her story after Origins...but don't quote me on that.

Only time will tell. Morrigan will certainly return, whether via expansion or sequel I cannot say.

That sounds like a good idea, but 3 or 4 npcs can be killed off depending on your actions. My first playthrough i did not recruit Lianna in time, so it might be hard to work around some players choices.

A lot of npcs you can give the boot to. Was Ohgren one of them and if you can will it have an impact on Awakening?

Hah that would be interesting.   I should do that on my current run-through just to see what happens.

One other thing..seeing that we get to lose all this stuff ..when Awakening happens, do we lose our gold too? Because if we don't..I am going to sell all that stuff...might as well, can't take it with me.

Although I give him credit for one great line..."Lets show them their hearts and then show them ours".

I've noticed he only says that line with mediocre approval. Actually try maxing his approval and you'll see how stalwart Oghren actually is.

The only thing I find particularly annoying about posts here is how when Oghren hits on Wynne it's crass and bad, but when Zevran hits on Wynne its zomg teh funny. If you're going to be all high and mighty do it across the f-ing board.

Hey no bias here...Zevran isn't one of my faves either.   But being there's an achievement..love interest thingie..after all this time on my 12th run I am trying a love interest Zevran style.

I have killed him off about three times just because its a pain in the butt getting his rogue skills up to snuff at the late stage he joins up ingame.   Same with Ohgren..I do the Circle first..plus run back and forth between the Brecillian Forest and other areas where I can at least get my characters to level 15 before attempting to kill Flemeth and the High Dragon.    Ranged characters are more handy for this than the tanks, however.

I have played with Oghren a few different ways, even went as far as to make him two 1hander at one point, but that isn't the point, is it? He seems somewhat shallow at first, but once I got to know him as a character(I hated the Orz area in general), he seemed like a cool dude, minus the drinking all the time bit. I loved his special lines at the end, however.. I believe he said something about "Let us show them our hearts, then show them theirs!".. Can't remember the whole set of lines, but it always made me want to go and kick some Archdemon ***.
