I apologize for this being an overused topic but since this is one of my favorite game series ever, I couldn't shut up about it!
Characters
As far as new characters and who to bring back, I believe a ton of characters already exist within the mass effect universe as far as who you can recuit. I would love to see most of not all of the characters from ME1 and ME2 make it back for the grand finale in ME3. Since there is already a plethora of people, focusing more on their stories, role-playing and romances would seem like the most logical thing to do. Of course your actions from ME1 and ME2 will determine who will come back in ME3 as recruitable characters. If Bioware were to add any new people, I would suggest that it only be one or two people.
I'm also all for bringing back my favorite recruitable character in the series. Tali!
Inventory
Sure, the old system sucked hard but I did miss the mods you could put on weapons and armor. I even missed the different armor types (Light,Medium,Heavy). The problem with ME1 was that the inventory system would get bogged down with mods and you spent a lot of time selling off all of the crap or turning it into omni-gel. The new inventory system is almost nonexistant, save for customizing the looks of your armor or equipping weapons. Instead of overloading the player with items, make it to where mods are much more rare, mainly you need to buy them off of vendors or find them from special areas and enemies. I didn't like how every fight they threw me 5+ different mods which all of them sucked for the most part. It also didn't help they threw you weapons and armor like madmen.
As far as armor, I like the new system of how I can paint and pick and choose parts to make my armor look different and give it different stats. I did not like how there is no longer any light, medium or heavy armor though. I like how certain classes can unlock different armor and how different armor had different shield and damage reduction stats.
I love the new weapon system. Having all kinds of fun guns to play around with, I was never bored in combat, unlike the first where I run into a fight, spam invulnerability and shoot people with an assault rile over...and over. I love how each weapon does something DIFFERENT and not just look a little different from the last. I do with I could mod them though. I do not miss the grenades from ME1, so good riddence. Those things were just terrible in my honest opinion, even when modded!
As far as biotic and omni-tools to have, the first one was interesting in upgrading your amps and tools. ME2 was simple and you just used your resources to upgrade the biotic and tech damage, durations and powers. The first one had a good concept but it was terribly flawed considering there was not many biotic amps or omni-tools to choose from.
Exploration and Enviroments
I have to admit that I miss the exploration of ME1 somewhat. The problem with exploring in the first was using the terrible steering mechanisms of the Mako and how the damn thing would bounce around like an R/C car. I liked how they enviroments were open but really damn stale and bland for the most part. Everything looked the same and every building I went into looked like the same one I was in only a few minutes ago with a few boxes, creates and enemies moved around. I think ME2 did a splendid job of addressing the boredom aspect of everything looking the same, as all of the locations in the second one all look different. I think that my complaint about this was is that areas felt somewhat linear for an RPG.
I would like to see see cities such as the citedel from the first one that was HUGE to explore and had plenty of smaller side quests. Having a few cities like the one from the first one would be excellent. I believe making envrioments and exploration more open without everything looking the same would satisfy the adventurous type of people and give the shooter fans more things to blow up.
Combat
ME1's combat was the areas of the game that I looked forward to THE LEAST . The first playthrough was fun but when I had to go through the same fights again as a different character I was cringing. The wonky hiding behind objects was also not nearly as refined as it is in ME2. Now I look forward to tearing my enemies a new one with some bad ass wepaons . I am torn between if I like the new ammo system or not though. I believe that would have been better introduced as some kind of weapon mod but I also like how I can upgrade it into some nasty effects later on so I'm not sure on that.
Adding in more exciting abilties for the classes in the next one and I'd be a happy camper!
Role-Playing Interaction:wizard:
I loved the role-playing in both games. I loved the new system to introduce the interruptions in ME2. More of the same would satisfy me! My complaint about the role-playing in ME1 was that I had to spend damn points into a skill instead of use it on my combat abilties, blegh!
Story
I believe Bioware can handle the story well, as they have demonstrated within many of their games so no complaints here. I just hope the series won't have a corney ending but I doubt Bioware would end it that way. I loved the stories of the characters in ME1 and ME2.
Sound
I don't have any complaints for the music. Both ME1 and ME2 had excellent musical scores that fit the mood perfectly. The sound effects from ME1 paled in comparison from the ones in ME2, mainly with the combat sounds. The voice acting is amazing in both of them also.
Special Thanks to Bioware - You've made one of my favorite if not most loved game franchises ever. Keep up the awesome work, guys and gals! <3 (Yes, I am so manly I put a heart up)
