Is it worth using DLC Armors since they cannot be upgraded?

I was looking through the Mass Effect Wiki masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Armor and learned that most of the DLC armors don't recieve a bonus from armor upgrades.

Does this mean that the DLC armours are useless?
Because I rally wanted to use the Blooddragon armor on my Hardcore Engineer but if its inferrior to ingame armor, I wont use it.

Also what DLC armors are best for what classes?(if the DLC armors are not useless that is)

You sure that DLC armors can't be upgraded via the Normandy research terminal? I know you can't switch out individual pieces (i.e. use the storm speed + 10% leggings) but I'm pretty sure that research upgrades still apply to DLC armor. I'm not 100% sure as I've only used N7 armor because its helmet can actually be removed.

The DLC armor is far from useless. The best you can do to try to mimic Blood Dragon Armor, for instance, is 13% power damage and 8% shields, and that's only after you finish Horizon and unlock Tuchanka while BDA is available before Freedom's Progress.

Blood Dragon Armor is the best DLC armor for the three "caster" classes (Engineer, Adept, Sentinel) while Terminus Armor is great for Soldiers and Vanguards until they get their post-Horizon or post-Collector Ship armor pieces. Collector Armor is alright if you're having survivability issues, and Inferno Armor doesn't come with much to recommend it...

i found the terminus armor to be very useful on my insanity playthrough with my infiltrator. the 15% shield bonus is better than you can get until near the end of the game. even then you could manage to get a little less in shields (you can actually get 18% shield if you got the sentry mask deal from dr pepper, if you don't have that i think the best is 13%) but then you don't get the ammo upgrade or the storm speed upgrade (which is pretty useful as you can cloak and make it across almost any battlefield.

Yup pretty sure that the DLC armors (at least the Blood Dragon and Collectors) don't benefit from upgrades.
Blood Dragon
Collector Armor

But if anyone knows if I or the wiki are wrong please tell me.

What are they referring to? Actual upgrades or armor pieces?

I'm pretty sure you can only upgrade the N7 armor.

Pre-Horizon the DLC armors are good... post Horizon you can buy upgrades that make the N7 armor better.

DLC armors are non upgradeable, but great for starting out fresh until you can purchase upgrades later, as Lucazius mentions. Terminus Armor is obsolete when you buy the same upgrades with discounts for N7s less than halfway through the game, plus other upgrades.

Is it just me or does the new Cerberus Armor look like a power rangers suit the kids at halloween wear? the helmet gives it away.

Some confusion here, are we talking about upgrade as in armor pieces you can purchase or upgrades as in the stuff you can research? I'm pretty sure the researched armor upgrades do apply to DLC since upgrades like bio amp, damage protection are for the entire squad. it wouldn't make sense if they don't apply

I appreciate the free armor... but I'd like more N7 Armor pieces and standard weapons (shotgun was a GREAT addition).

Maybe that's what the OP was getting at. The customization and modularity present with the N7 armor makes it superior in my eyes too.

The listed bonuses are the only difference. There is no hidden ner****e. The researchable bonuses apply to all armor/weapons.

In both my playthroughs so far I'm pretty sure I got every upgrade in every shop and explorable area...and I've never seen armor upgrades. What am I missing? There are upgrades that increase your health and shields etc. but that has nothing to do with armor.

Im not sure but im almost positive that the ones like Skin weave. etc dont apply since they are shepard only and part of the 'armor' selecion.

But I really don't know thats why I'm asking the question. I would love it if a Dev could clear this up, since there seems to be no way to search for it currently.

I like the DLC armors look. But dont care for them in game much. But that is me. Instead of full set armor DLC I would rather have N7 Upgrades for DLC like more ammo. I love running around with a sniper rifle. But find myself struggling to resupply its ammo. Kill 10 guys and they only drop 2-3 ammo. A bit of a bumper. I used to hate the overheating in ME1 but now I rather have it back to get rid of ammo. Again that is how I feel.

Upgrades that don't appear as "N7 Armour Pieces" are universal. So the extra ammo upgrades are NOT universal, as you have to choose them when making your N7 armour (This only applies to the two you can select as armour pieces). Upgrades like damage reduction ARE universal as you don't select them as individual pieces for the N7 armour.

I base this on nothing more than common sense.

DLC armour (Blood Dragon armour especially) are much better than the N7 armour for about half the game. Even now with all the armour pieces, I only wear the N7 armour because I can change its colour. The overall bonus are pretty close.

The only downside to the DLC armor sets is that you can't customise the looks and you can't mix and match different armor pieces - if an armor set says + 10% shields and + 10% health your stuck with it.

There is no such thing as armor upgrades, so I'm not sure where that came from. DLC armor sets are better early in the game until you have a few different pieces of N7 armor to choose from.

I am 100% sure of this because, as I have already said, I have never seen armor upgrades in the game and am confident I haven't missed anything major like this.

Edit: Ah, sorry for repeating what Akimb0 has said.

N7 upgrades, add-ons w/e. More new pieces with greater bonuses.

for the people who don't think there are armor upgrades: step 1)go to tech lab. step 2) access research terminal. step 3) scroll down past *About Upgrades*, *Weapon Upgrades* to *ARMOR UPGRADES*. step 4) kick yourself. (those upgrades DO transfer to DLC armor). the DLC armors not only offer distinct looks but special upgrades that you CANNOT make with the n7 armor. you might be able to replicate 1 or 2 stats of say the terminus armor like shields or storm speed but the dlc armor is the only one with those 3 bonuses in those stats. same for the other armors. ( i think the blood dragon can be copied cuz it only has two stats) theres only so many pieces of n7 armor and so many combinations. ultimately you might be able to make it comparable to one or two stats of a specific DLC but never all three.

and ppl most of the upgrades you research at the research lab are cybernetics meaning they apply directly to shepard. please stop spreading flase information.

Any upgrade you research applys to all armors and weapons

The Terminus armor Bioware/Gamespot gave away was completely useless. I mainly researched upgrades of the main n7 armor.

Says you.  Terminus is a very good early armor before some of the more interesting N7 pieces become available, and even after they're all available nothing can do what Terminus Armor does better than Terminus Armor.

Terminus armor is pretty decent on Soldier, but I don't play a Soldier and it looks oddly like Oblivion armor.
