New Scientist posted an article on the real element zero back in 2002: http://www.newscient...n-the-atom.html

Posted Image

It is called "tetraneutron" for it's four-neutron packet structure. It is also not very magical.

So, I can't cause a singularity and suck in reanimated humans?

Wow I was not aware of this. Thanks for the post.

Now how's that for a coincidence? Sure one is completely and udderly madeup for story-telling purposes, and the other is a particle that almost no one understands or even believes exists. But a fun fact none the less. Great find Irrumare.

http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Neutronium

Neutronium is a proposed name for a substance composed purely out of neutrons. The term was originally used in science fiction and in popular literature to refer to a highly dense phase of matter composed primarily of neutrons. The word was coined by scientist Andreas von Antropoff in 1926 (before the discovery of the neutron itself) for the conjectured 'element of atomic number zero' that he placed at the head of the periodic table.[1][2]
However, the meaning of the term has changed over time, and from the
last half of the 20th century onward it has been used legitimately to
refer to extremely dense phases of matter resembling the neutron-degenerate matter postulated to exist in the cores of neutron stars.

Indeed, but "neutronium" is such a vague and nonspecific term. The fact that neutrons tend to gather up in teams of four (hence "tetraneutron") is unexpected and wonderful.

I may be a bit off-base but I think we are comparing apples and oranges here. If I read the codexes correctly, Element Zero in game usage refers to Dark Matter. (And its product, Dark Energy, which causes the Mass Effect, based on the idea of Dark Matter causing the universe to expand through a repulsive force opposite the other fundamental forces)

Scientific "Element Zero" ie neutronium is neutron degenerate matter hypothesized to be in a liquid state (as opposed to the solid often depicted) consisting of numerous free neutrons bound together by the Strong Nuclear Force, as the lack of protons, electrons, etc remove the repulsion and electrochemical bonds that would otherwise exist.

In this case "Element Zero" is simply a description for neutrnonium whereas Element Zero is mass effect is meant to be the name given to Dark Matter once it had been confirmed, identified, and put to use.

This is all very interesting, but can someone tell me where to get some of it in dust form so I can snort it and become a biotic god?

Can anyone confirm this? If it's true, I will be a little disappointed I think.

Pretty sure you need to go to Elysium to score some Red Sand.  Just get to the Skyllian Verge and bang a left a Sidon.

ME is just a conspiracy to intergrate us into a hidden world. In 2012 we will find out that turians, asari, salarians etc exist. with citadel as center. Then you will be either given rifles or exposed to element zero (for biotic abilities) and sent to the frontlines to fight reapers. If his is the case I call shot gun on Cain XD

On serious note -stuff like dark matter and dark energy exist as well. Surprisingly many of the things in ME and sci-fi are based on some real hypothesis or facts.

Yup. Well, eezo allows the manipulation of dark energy. Not dark matter. They are very different things.

Actually, the idea was that running a current through element zero produces dark energy, dark matter, etc. It's not stated that eezo is dark matter specifically.

if you are beleive in such things, there was a report on a crashed ufo that used an electric current run through a previously undiscovered element to create a field around the ship that would cancel the effects of gravity. i myself do not believe this to be true, but a few years back it was on a documentary about ufos.

the only difference between it and element zero is that it had a very high atomic number, higher than 118 making it  well off the currently known periodic table and therefore synthetic.

Ah, I thought it said Eezo was Dark Matter (or maybe I just inferred it from its statement about producing Dark Energy) my mistake.

Yeah, dark matter and dark energy don't have anything to do with each other, actually. They're both named that way just because they are unknown factors used to explain why the structure of the universe differs from the models made to describe it. Though dark matter has all but proven since then, since its gravity fields can be observed, but the dark energy is still rather hypothetical.

I believe if you actually snort it, a black hole will form in your nasal cavity causing you to turn inwards at that point.

Sounds kind of painful. :)
