look at all the people that whined that there weren't reloads or that the mako was too difficult for their nub asses to drive or the people that whined that there was too much stuff. what did that whining get us? they destroyed their established canon and seriously messed up mass effect by giving you an ammo system, they took out the planet exploration and the aweseom mako, and they made it so their are just a handful of weapons. none of these things is a good thing. if you weren't able to drive the mako, you just sucked at driving the mako, it's not the mako's fault you can't understand basic vehicle controls. if you didn't like the overheat mechanism instead of ammo tough ****, it's what the REAL mass effect uses. if you couldn't handle a large inventory with lots of items, go play gears of war, mass effect is a rpg-shooter.

mass effect 2 is just an example of bioware giving in to the whining and ****ing of nubs and shooter fanboys that didn't like how mass effect was different than gears of war or halo.

hopefully bioware does the right thing and brings back these wonderful aspects of mass effect in me3.

I think ME2 is a fairly good game that being said I couldn't agree more with HelterSkelter89. I mean all the people whining about the Mako. The controls on the Mako were amazing. I could drive all over the place while keeping the gun locked on exactly what I was aiming at. The only time the controls on the Mako where a pain was in the Mission with the Thorian. All they needed to do was either make the edge of the road so the Mako couldn't accidentally drive off it or make the road wider. I loved the controls on the Mako. Although IMHO the terrain on many/most of the planets needed to be designed better. As it was often frustrating trying to find a path through on the Mako. An easy fix for that would have just been to display paths more clearly on the map. But ya I agree if you couldn't drive the Mako then it was simply a case of you sucking at driving the Mako cause it was an awesome vehicle with solid and well designed controls.

Are you dense or did you just not read my entire post? As i said they needed to display paths better on the map most maps had a path that you could easily follow.  They were just frequently really hard to find.  If they would have displayed the paths more clearly then we would all have made less attempts to drive over really steep mountains.

I guess the main problem was that many of the paths took an extremely winding route. So it was hard to tell while driving the Mako if the Path you could see would take you where you wanted to go since the object might be on your left but the path you need to take might go off to the right before looping back around to the left. Most of us seeing the radar telling us our objective was on the left and no obvious way to get there would look for a way over the mountains.

I try not to read any threads that I find annoying to myself. I really don't go out of the way to worry about what others have to say, at least not all of the time. It's interesting to read other people's opinions but that's all they are: opinions. Whenever I visit any video game forum, I expect there to be people who overreact and get whiny about whatever game that is the current topic. Besides, ME2 is brand new and people are going to find anything wrong with the game and that's how it goes when a game is just released.

i'm sure the MAKO was good, but bioware had that "hack off everything people didn't even remotely agree with" policy.

and that's just a hurrible design philosophy for any game.

BobbyTheI wrote...

As somebody who has lurked on the BioWare forums since ME1, and am only now deciding to post a bit (mostly to do corny jokes, but hey), I'm of two minds on the subject.

On the one hand, my initial review of the game pointed out how I felt that ME2 was one giant, wet kiss to the fans, especially with all the minor references, cameos, and other things that showed how much BioWare pays attention to the forums and the fans.  Blasto, the refund guy, the turian/quarian conversation... none of that stuff would probably exist without the forums.  And yeah, neither would the Garrus and Tali romance paths, most likely.  Although some people may not think so, I think BioWare listens to the fans more than most other major video game companies out there.

So yeah, I think it's good that folks talk about stuff they'd like to see in ME3, because I think there's a good chance that somebody's going to pay attention.  Not that it's a guarantee you're going to see it, but it helps up the chances a little.

On the other hand... good GAWD, you people sometimes.  I've lost track of how many times I've come to one of these boards and seen three threads... on page 1... on the EXACT SAME TOPIC.  Now, don't get me wrong, there are fandoms that are a lot worse (glances back toward the dark abyss of hate that is the Fallout fandom), but honestly, I think there's a definite need to tone it down a little.

I may be wrong, but to me, I think one single well-reasoned post saying, "Here's something I didn't like about ME2, and here's some ways to improve" helps out a whole lot more than fifty posts saying, "OHMIGOD, Mass Effect is ruined FOREVER and I'll never buy another product by BioWare again unless things are changed to my EXACT specifications!"

No game's gonna be perfect. I don't think ME1 is perfect, and while I think ME2 is quite a bit better, I don't think it's perfect either. I don't even think Baldur's Gate II, which still ranks as perhaps my favorite game of all time, is perfect. But constructive criticism with a calm temperament helps a lot more to move us toward perfection than hysteria and anger.

That's my piece, I've said it, and I'll just go back to doing my 100th version of the same joke over at the CSI thread now.  ;)

For what it's worth, I completely agree with you. Criticism is a good thing as long as you are objective, but you see so much of it on these forums that makes me wonder what kind of game were all those dissapointed fans expecting. IMHO, ME2 was great, but it has it flaws, EVERY game does, and while some of the complaints most people have are valid, others take it too far and demand things that wouldn't necessary improve the game.
And btw I love the CSI thread^_^

Oh and all they needed to do to fix the inventory was make items stack that way I could just sell all twenty of the things i didn't want at once. Like I said I like ME2 I just would have liked it more if it would not have been a sequel to ME. A spin off maybe. But one has to question the logic of changing the core game play of a game that got the kind of reviews that ME got. Here is a quote from  the ME wikipedia article

Xbox 360 reviews
Game Informer awarded Mass Effect a 9.75 out of 10, declaring it "the next big franchise for science fiction junkies to latch onto... a huge step forward for video games," and that it "rings in a new age of interactive storytelling." The key negative points of the review were the balancing issues and problematic AI of the combat system.[73][74] Official Xbox Magazine gave Mass Effect the sixth '10' in the magazine's history, raving, "Mass Effect is a great science-fiction novel in video game form. Meaning, it mixes the highest caliber of pure story with the decision making and raw action of the best games." The OXM reviewer also praised it saying "It's the best game I've ever played" and remarked that it had "The best story ever told in a videogame. Period."[75] Electronic Gaming Monthly awarded Mass Effect a Gold Award with scores of 9, 9.5, and 9, also citing that the negative points of the review were balance issues with the character classes, as well as a steep learning curve with the Mako IFV.[76] GameSpy and X-Play both gave it a 5 out of 5 and a special episode "Mass Effect takes interactive entertainment to breathtaking new heights and is wholeheartedly recommended. This is one of the best games of the year, and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest games ever made."[77] Shacknews praised, "While the core gameplay is nothing new — sometimes disappointingly so — Mass Effect represents a generational jump in storytelling artistry."[78] Slashdot's review also praised the storytelling, saying "[The] storyline Mass Effect will have you laughing, furious, and deeply saddened — in some cases all about the same character." GameTrailers gave Mass Effect a 9.6 out of 10, one of its highest reviews ever.[79] GameSpot reviewed the X360 version as "a great game with moments of brilliance and a number of small but significant obstacles that hold it back from reaching its true potential." It subsequently reviewed the PC version and gave it a higher score calling it "best choice for experiencing this excellent game."

I mean with reviews like that why in the hell would you change the core game play, people obviously loved the game. Tweek it, improve it, yes but to completely gut it?  Like I said I like ME2 I just would have liked it more if it hadn't been the sequel for ME. It just makes me wonder what they were thinking. It is what it is though like I said ME2 is a good game it's just a little hard for many fans of the original Mass Effect to swallow and that's pretty much all I have to say about that

Ultimately, the whiners will not get what they want. Which makes it somewhat bearable for me. They're incapable of seeing how ridiculously bad their ideas are, so arguing with them is pointless. But there will come a day when they realize that their unreasonable demands have fallen on deaf ears and I will relish every drop of their welling tears. Hey, that rhymes!

Ya I agree and I agree with much of what you said.  People have ideas or thoughts fine but they need to be presented in a calmer more rational   manner.

eh. i praise the game plenty, but i like to point out things that need improving. it's not like video game forums aren't used by the developers to gather information, see what their fanbase likes/dislikes, etc.

if all the forum members ever did was say, "great game", "top notch!", "way to go", "i really apprecite, guys!" it would be an utterly worthless tool for the devs.

of course there is a difference between relentless complaining and constructive criticism, but the devs need to know when something doesn't work or could be improved.

it is a great game and so was ME1, the vast majority of forum members love it i would guess. Don't let Thread Titles fool you, the "really" offensive ones towards bioware are usually filled with members telling the OP why he/she is wrong or stfu.

I have to agree with the Op and most of the posters here. Thanks for saying what i have been thinking.. No game is perfect, don't judge a game on what has come before it, judge it on it's on merits.

But a couple things.. Lots of posts have griped about how EA messed up ME2 they need to go back and look at ME1 EA was there too.. And second ME2 is not a porn game, I am so tried of the "there is not enough skin the love scenes". If you want a porn game go play Boneland or one of the other porn games out there..

And my first play through took me 35 hours.. So I payed $60 for ME 2 that works out to $1.71 an hour. Heck of a lot cheaper than going to a movie at $ 20 for 2 hours and much more fun.

Also thank you Bioware, ME2 was the first game to pull me in and wrap me up in the story. I have no complaints with it other than I want more..

People here think that whining to Bioware will actually get them stuff. Because when they were kids they were used to crying and ****ing to their parents when they wouldn't get them the toys everyone else had.

yeah but its working, we got tali as li, well i didnt complain, i didnt care about li's untill me 2 showed tali, but yeah, im only really whining about the glitched me2 events that turned up renegade when it should have been paragon like conrad verner
